The night passes slowly. Zombies push against the concrete blocks, and Ryan can hear then being slightly pushed, but the wall holds. The zombies are ultimately too dumb to understand the wall of concrete blocks is not solid, and they don't attempt to break it down.
'They must rely on sight,' Ryan reasons when he thinks about the previous night. Then brutes rammed the gates of the car dealership, but they didn't run into the concrete block wall. Also thinking back, Ryan couldn't remember a time where the zombies tried to smash down the brick wall, or the glass windows at the front of the store.
So, Ryan knew three things about the zombies. One, unprovoked zombies traveled at slow pace and occasionally stumbled, but would attempt to stand up before crawling to their destination. Two, the bones and skin of zombies are less resistant to damage than a normal human's. Three, the zombies will attempt to breach a structure by coming in waves led by a brute.
In addition to these things, Ryan had several theories he was working on. Zombies would try to attack him when he dropped a glass into the sewer. This indicated zombies were attracted to noise. What Ryan didn't know was why the zombies didn't attack through the glass windows of the car dealership. The only explanation, Ryan assumed, was a certain level of intelligence by the zombies.
The zombies tried to breach the lot from where the noise was the loudest. This was, however, not the easiest, so they zombies lacked that level of awareness. Maybe if Ryan or Jacob could be seen from the glass windows, the zombies might have tried to breach them.
When morning comes, Ryan realizes he never fell asleep. The entire, time, he had been worrying too much about noises he might make. So help himself, he'd need more defenses. He'd need a larger base.
No longer would the underside of a maintenance van be enough. However, to facilitate this, Ryan needs more credits. Living in the sewer worked fairly well for gaining a large sum of credits, but only when he spent the whole day killing zombies. Regular zombies were worth five credits and the brute zombies were worth fifty, so going out and hunting brutes could potentially be profitable.
Ryan only has 1945 credits, but that's enough for three or four skills. With the right skills, Ryan could completely change the way he gained credits. However, this would probably take more than his current amount of credits. First, a skill to gain more credits.
>Fortune 1, 300 ₵
Since skills didn't have any explanation for them, other than the name, Ryan has to buy the skill to see what it does. To test the new skill, Ryan exits from under the van and climbs to the top of the van by first climbing on top of the car. Since he doesn't want zombies smashing into the concrete blocks, Ryan hops down onto the sidewalk and decapitates the nearest zombie.
>Earned 6 ₵
An immediate gain of one credit per kill. The effect of the skill could be a flat plus one to all kills, or a twenty percent increase, but neither mattered. Ryan could, and will, buy more skills to increase his rate of gaining credits.
