Chapter 5: Stand By Mei. (1)
"Never Fear! For I am Here! Waking you up like a HERO!!!"
I woke up the next day, to the sound of my All Might alarm clock blaring directly in my ear.
Quickly, I turned it off, but I then noticed that I was somewhat… restricted.
Looking around, I saw that [Snake Farm] had somehow managed to have summoned itself, and was wrapping its body around my own, constricting me ever so slightly.
I tried tapping it on the side, but soon noticed that it was asleep, surprisingly enough. With its eyes shut as it held me tightly, as if I was its most prized possession or something like that…
"Unf… hey buddy, can you get off of me?" I quietly asked, as I shook the Stand a bit, which seemed to wake it up, as it quickly perked up and looked me in the eyes… before disappearing, apparently dismissing itself.
Well, it seemed that [Snake Farm] could summon and dismiss itself at will, even when I’m unconscious… that might come in handy if I get knocked out, at least.
With that done, I slowly got up and made sure to look at myself in the mirror just in case there were more changes to my body.
Thankfully, I hadn't suddenly grown another five inches or gained abs on top of my abs. Or horns, for that matter… there weren’t any sudden new changes to my body, thankfully.
"Phew" I sighed in relief, as I inspected every inch of my body… this change still needed getting used to, but at least I wasn’t constantly changing.
So with that, I then left my bedroom and had a quick shower, before getting dressed and making my way to the kitchen to grab something to eat for breakfast.
Thankfully, it was a Teacher's Work Day today, meaning that I had two consecutive days away from school, because I still had no idea how I was going to manage to explain exactly what happened to me during the break.
But on my way to the kitchen, I noticed mom in the living room, riding away on an exercise bike like her life depended on it.
Huh, guess she was being truthful when she told Mei that she was working out to beat me in the next sparring session.
I quickly went into the kitchen, and made some simple scrambled eggs and buttered toast… before also grabbing an apple. It was a decently balanced breakfast.
And, I made sure to make some for mom for when she finished her workout too… before also pouring some orange juice into a bottle and walking into the living room.
"Here mom, I think you need this," I said with a smile, as I handed her the bottle of orange juice.
"Oh, thanks Izuku," Mom said with a smile as she grabbed the bottle and guzzled it down in nearly an instant, only stopping to take a deep breath afterward, "Well. I guess it's time to take a small break"
After that, she got off of the exercise bike, and did some small stretches before sitting down on the couch, sighing deeply as she did so.
"So, Izu-kun. What do you have planned for the day?" Mom asked, as she lounged back on the couch, idly attracting a bottle of water to her with her Quirk.
"Well, we should probably get started on filling out my Quirk Registry, with me actually unlocking my Quirk, right?" I suggested, causing mom to sit upright for a moment, a look of shocked realization on her face.
"I completely forgot! I was going to do that when you were out- oh I'm sorry Izuku!" Mom said, tears welling up in her eyes.
Not wanting her to practically flood the living room with her tears, I quickly hugged her, something I knew would calm her down.
"It's alright mom, we've just got to do it today… it'll be a bit tedious, but it should be fine" I said with a smile, as mom began to slowly but surely calm down.
Eventually, I stopped hugging mom, as I had to think of what else I was going to do today…
"Well, after we fill out my Quirk Registration forms… I might head back to the junkyard to see Mei, or meet her at her house?" I said after a few moments of thought, a slight blush making its way to my face.
"Oh? You're having a meeting with your wife, eh?" Mom asked teasingly, and yep… Aunt Mitsuki definitely seems to have corrupted her, "Just make sure to take some protection. I don't want grandkids so soon!"
"M-mom, please…" I stuttered, the idea of doing that with Mei far too embarrassing for me to even consider.
"It's just a bit of harmless teasing, dear. Mitsuki said it's healthy for a boy your age!" Mom said with a bright smile, and I couldn't just refute that… mostly because I didn't want that smile to dim.
"A-anyways… I was thinking that after that, I'd train with my Quirk? Figure out exactly what my Stands can do?" I said, as I did want to figure out the limitations of my Stands, after all.
"Well then. We should head to the Registration Office, shouldn't we?" Mom suggested, as she slowly got up from the couch, and made her way to where her car keys were.
So, the two of us got into the car, and drove all the way to the Quirk Registration Office… it was a little out of the way, but it was sponsored by the Hero Public Safety Commission, and was a lot more reputable than the hospital nearby, in terms of registering Quirks.
It was a fairly large and imposing building with the words "Quirk Registration Office" clearly marked on the front of the building, with a few other cars parked at the front.
I remembered hearing that Kacchan had gone here when he was eight… which was when he learned he could make bigger explosions than just those little firecracker ones, by accumulating his sweat to a singular point and letting it off in a massive inferno.
So, I took a deep breath and walked in with mom by my side, and saw that on the inside it was… kind of boring.
There were a few people standing in line, while others were just waiting in seats with numbered tickets in their hands, and a pair of secretaries sitting at the front desk.
Mom and I quickly got in line, and waited for my turn to talk to one of the secretaries… which took an agonizing twenty minutes.
Twenty minutes of just waiting, and a little bit of shuffling forward when someone finally got their ticket and left the line.
Eventually, I got to the front of the line, and saw that the secretary was a fairly normal looking man with red skin and a large horn on his forehead.
"What have you come here for?" The man asked blandly, looking as bored as I felt.
"Oh, my son finally unlocked his Quirk. So we were hoping to register it?" Mm asked, as the man sighed before pulling out some paperwork and handing it to me, along with a pen.
"Alright, young man. You need to fill this out, giving us a basic detail of what your Quirk can do, then we'll have a doctor see what your Quirk's able to do… and you'll be able to go" The man said, as he motioned over to a seat in the corner, "You can go and sit over there and fill it out, when you're done. Come back and we'll get one of the doctors to look it over"
With that, I then went over to the corner of the room, in order to fill out my Quirk Registration… and it looked fairly simple, with just a couple of questions.
'What is your Quirk's Name, Type, and General Ability?'
Well, that would be pretty easy to fill out, at least.
I quickly filled out the registration, deciding to call my Quirk Stand By Me, because that's what they did… my Stands stood by my side in battle, and would assist me in all of my heroic aspirations.
After that, I also added that it was an Emitter Quirk, and how upon defeating an opponent, I gained an aspect of their Quirk as a projection.
For a moment, I was tempted to add that there were no known limitations, before thinking better of it. Mostly because I didn't want to have to deal with people either trying to find my limitations, or getting kidnapped by some sort of villain who stole the Quirk Registration forms, and saw me as their route to power. It’s happened enough times for me to be wary of such a thing.
With that, I then had to… get back in line, and wait another ten minutes only to be given a ticket and told to wait another twenty minutes.
I’ve basically wasted an hour just waiting for things to happen, and honestly? I never want to come here ever again. This whole experience was just so… so mind-numbing.
But eventually… finally, my name was called up and mom and I were taken to a small clinic in the back of the building and met with an elderly doctor who had a pair of small bat-like wings along his back.
"Hello there, Mr. Midoriya, I'm Dr. Iyasu, and I'm here to confirm that your Quirk is what you say it is… from what I have here, it seems that your Quirk allows you to create projections based on other peoples' Quirks?" The doctor, Dr. Iyasu asked as he looked at the file that I had just written out a few minutes ago.
"Y-yes, that's correct doctor," I said with a smile, before he asked me to show him my Quirk.
I looked at mom for a moment, and she nodded… so with that, I then decided to show off my Quirk to the doctor.
"Well, alright Doctor Iyasu… do you want to see one of my Stands? Or how I gain them?" I asked, wanting some confirmation beforehand.
"I would like to see how you gain them, Mr. Midoriya" Doctor Iyasu said after a moment.
"Okay then. I'd need to 'defeat' you to gain one… so, I'm just going to assume you don't want me to hurt you" I said, getting a nod from the doctor, "So let's play a game?"

"Alright then, young man…" Doctor Iyasu said, as he put down his clipboard, his small bat-like wings flexing ever so slightly.
"How about a competition where we make up a Quirk and have to solve either how to make it work or improve it?" I suggested, causing the doctor to laugh slightly.
"Alright! But, I think we should set some ground rules first… we need to answer within thirty seconds, and the answers must be thirty words or less. Does that sound good?" Doctor Iyasu asked with a grin, "I haven't played a game like this in a long time, kid. Please don't fail too quickly"
"That sounds perfectly fine, doctor," I said, as he pulled out a small clock and put it on a timer for thirty seconds.
"Alright, you can go first," Doctor Iyasu said, as he sat in his chair, waiting for me to come up with a Quirk...
"A quirk that allows the user to convert the heat in their hands into balls of fire" I suggested, the idea somewhat inspired by my dad's own Quirk, 'Fire Breath'.
"Hmm…" Doctor Iyasu hummed for a moment, before looking back at me, "Teach the user how to regulate their body heat so it's constantly running higher for larger fireballs, or figure out why the limitation is just in the hands"
"Yeah, I'll accept that answer. A bit vague though" I said, before quickly stopping the timer with ten seconds left, getting a snort from the doctor.
"Not my fault that the Quirk itself is fairly vague," Doctor Iyasu said, before looking at me, "Alright… a Mutant Quirk that gives the user a tail that can be plugged into any electrical socket"
Huh, that wasn't a bad idea. But a bit… basic. It was easy to get a good idea for that.
"See if the user can actually do anything with the sockets they're plugged into, and if they can, give them a litany of electrical appliances to connect with?" I suggested, causing the doctor to clap with a small smile.
"Good, good. And quick too, alright then kid. Your turn" The doctor said as he stopped the timer.
"Hmm… what about this? The user can transfer a power up to any other quirk user to upgrade their quirk by touching them" I said with a grin, as I started the timer again.
"Pair them up with people who have already powerful Quirks, and see if they're able to transfer this power to objects, perhaps they could wield incredibly powerful weapons?" Dr. Iyasu suggested, causing me to stop the timer.
"Alright, that sounds pretty good," I said, as he then pitched the next Quirk idea…
The two of us then continued on for well over an hour, playing this game with each other, and slowly but surely… I was winning. The doctor just wasn't able to keep up with my sheer amount of Quirk ideas.
"Okay! What about a Quirk that allows the user to sweat a nitroglycerin-like substance?" Dr. Iyasu suggested… huh, that sounded a lot like Kacchan's Quirk.
"See if they're able to make explosions with this sweat, then get them to concentrate their sweat in a singular location. Perhaps the hands for incredibly powerful attacks" I said nearly instantly, causing the doctor to grit his teeth, as he stopped the timer.
"How about a quirk that allows the user to summon a sphere of light that constantly shifts in colors?" I suggested, starting the timer as the doctor stood up and started pacing around his room.
"I- I…" The doctor muttered to himself, quietly enough for me to not be able to hear him… until he looked at me.
But as he went to speak, his voice was drowned out by the sound of the alarm.
"Nooo!" Doctor Iyasu groaned out, as he collapsed to his knees, "Beaten by a child… my reputation will never recover"
"There were several answers, doctor," I said as I helped him off of the floor, "You could improve the brightness so it's blinding, alter the size, control the color, see if the light could be imbued with any effects, make the light solid, or even reshape the light so it's no longer just a ball"
I then led the doctor to his seat, where he rested his head in his hands, a look of shock on his face.
Then, there was a bright green glow coming from him, causing the doctor to look at it with a slight amount of fear.
"Remember doctor? We were playing to test my quirk" I reminded the man, causing him to sigh in relief, as he leaned in further and watched as the Stand was formed.
Eventually, the energy coalesced and began to take its own form…
It quickly took the form of a… regal figure with a mostly black body with a feathery red cape, a white face, and large antler-like red horns. It had a pair of black diamond-like eyes, and dramatically bowed at me.
"Greetings, my Lord. I have answered the call… may I be graced with a name?" The Stand asked, with a surprisingly melodic yet regal voice as it looked me in the eye, sounding a lot like some sort of noblewoman.
It was quite a bit taller than me, standing at around 7'7 or 7'8? And from what I could tell… it was a surprisingly decent Stand.
The Stand was capable of flying and transforming into a flock of shadowy bats… and it was fully sapient and capable of speech from what I was able to tell.
"Well, this is utterly fascinating," Doctor Iyasu said as he looked at the Stand before him, "This was made from my Quirk?"
"Oh, what is your Quirk? Sorry, I completely forgot to ask that" I asked somewhat apologetically. As I had just assumed that his Quirk was just the small bat-like wings on his back.
"It's no bother… it's Bat Transformation, and lets me transform into either a normal bat, or a middle point between a human and a bat. Quite a few of my friends told me that I'd make a good Hero, but Quirk Analysis is what called to me!" Dr. Iyasu said with a slightly fanged grin.
"Then yes, this Stand was made from your Quirk, from what I can tell? It can transform into a flock of bats" I said, causing him to look at the Stand with a renewed sense of interest.
"Oh, how interesting. My daughter can do something quite similar… sadly my grandson only inherited the wings. And he's such an overeater that they won't even come in handy for the career he wants" Dr. Iyasu said with a slight groan, "In fact… I do believe he's around your age, Mr. Midoriya"
Well, that confirmed it, this kindly old doctor was the grandfather of one of my childhood bullies… how lovely.
"Ah, do you mean Tsubasa?" I asked politely, getting the old doctor to nod with a smile.
"Yeah… he thinks he can be a Hero just because of his Quirk, and everything that his mother said… but I shouldn't be gossiping about this to one of his classmates, apologies," Dr. Iyasu said after a moment.
"It's no problem… so, can we fill out my Quirk Registration now?" I asked, somewhat impatient as I did want to do other things today.
"Of course! Of course!" Dr. Iyasu said after a moment, as he quickly started signing a bunch of papers, "Now! Everything's done. You can head back home now!"
Looking back at my mom, I saw that she was on her phone. Completely zoned out… likely because she didn't want to interrupt me during the competition that was going on.
So, I quickly nudged her, causing her to let out a startled little 'eep', before telling her that it was time to go home.
…By the time the two of us had gotten into the car, I had completely forgotten that the new Stand was also with me, and looking at… her? I didn't have the heart to dismiss her before even giving her a name.
So, as she awkwardly got in the back of the car, I looked at her for a moment, before a name finally came to me.
"I'm going to call you… [Grimm]" I said with a slight smile, as I looked at the newly named [Grimm] sitting in the back of the car.
"I thank you, my lord. For departing such a name onto me! I shall endeavor to prove worthy of such a name, and defend you against all foul miscreants who would dare place harm upon your person" [Grimm] swore with a regal bow… which was slightly awkward, with how cramped she seemed to be in the backseat.
With that, she quickly dismissed herself… and both mom and I made our way back to the house.
Annoyingly, there was quite a bit of traffic because a Villain with a quirk that allowed them to slow down anything they saw was rampaging in the streets, slowing down cars and causing crashes… and to make things worse, I wasn’t able to get out of the car and help.
Because by the time I was even close enough? The villain had been beaten by several Pro-Heroes and the damage was being assessed, which caused traffic to come to a standstill.
That Quirk would've definitely made for an incredibly useful Stand, especially if it could have let me just slow down the villains. But I couldn't exactly complain about the heroes doing their jobs.
But eventually, I was able to get back home, where I started packing a small bag with a couple of different snacks, water bottles, and a taser… the last two times I'd returned from the junkyard, I had gotten into a fight on the way home. I was making sure that I would be prepared this time.
So with that, I headed off to the Rust Rangers Scrapyard, hopeful to see my uh… wife, Mei.

Alright, a bit of a filler chapter, mostly registering Izuku’s Quirk and meeting the second Best Stand of the series (by that, I mean the second of the Best Stands, not 2nd in ranking), [Grimm]
Hope you all enjoyed the chapter, and thank you all for the support!
