Chapter 2: Standing Out From The Rest! (1)
Eventually, I woke up and cracked my neck… I felt so damn sore. It felt like all of my muscles and bones were on fire.
If this is what exercising did… I didn't want to do it ever again. This was complete and utter torture.
But, as I slowly got out of bed, and stood up, looking in the mirror… I saw a shocking sight, I had… I had abs that could be seen even under my tank top, and if I wasn’t wrong, I must have grown quite a few inches!
"Mom!" I shouted out, before noticing that even my voice was deeper… what the hell!?
"Izuku?" My mom asked on the other side of the door, knocking before opening it and gasping in surprise, "Izuku- is that… what happened to you?"
"I think my Quirk did this?" I guessed… because that's all that I was capable of doing at this very moment.
"Oh! You look so mature and handsome! Just like your father! Oh! Wait just a moment!" Mom said with a smile as she quickly ran out, before running back in with a tape measure, "We have to see how tall you've gotten!"
With that, she quickly started measuring my height… and I found that I was now 5'8, as she tallied my new height on the doorframe, a drastic difference from my previous height of 5'3.
After all… I had grown an entire five inches!
"Uh mom, do you want to see my Quirk?" I asked, getting a somewhat excited nod from her.
"Of course sweetie! Oh, I've been waiting for this day!" Mom said excitedly, as she watched me with unabashed interest.
"Alright… [Ocean Man]" I said, summoning my uh… Stand to my side.
It just stood there, not reacting a bit as mom quickly ran over to it and started examining it with curiosity.
"Oh! That's amazing, Izuku!" Mom said as she looked over the Stand.
"I discovered that if I beat someone in a fight… I can gain an aspect of their Quirk and summon a being to fight for me" I said with a grin, internally thanking whatever Kami had blessed me with my Quirk.
To be honest, I was somewhat expecting it to have all been a dream or something… at least until I looked in the mirror this morning.
"So, uh… this is [Ocean Man]," I said, as the Stand made a fabulous pose with its head tilted back and trident held along its chest, sort of like a regal emperor, "It can sap away a person's stamina, and… uh, poke people with its trident"
"Well, this is amazing, Izuku! I-I think you can be an amazing hero with a Quirk like this!" Mom said with a smile, as I had to honestly work to suppress a gasp of shock.
…Mom had been one of the main people who didn't want me to be a hero. So, to hear her say that? It was surprising to be sure.
"…Thanks Mom," I said as a smile graced my features. After all, it seemed that she finally believed in my dream.
"Well, anyway Izuku. It's the weekend now… is there anything you want to do?" Mom asked happily.
I took a few moments to think of what I would want to do, when an idea occurred to me…
"Well mom, maybe we could go shopping for some new clothes?" I suggested after a few moments, "I don't think I'll be able to fit most of my old clothes now"
"You- oh right! Right!" Mom said after a moment's worth of confusion, "Right, we should go shopping then!"
With that, mom dragged me out of my room, and quickly made some breakfast, it was just a bowl of cereal, but it wasn’t all that bad.
After finishing my breakfast, I had a quick shower and got dressed in my biggest shirt and longest pair of pants… which were still a bit short and tight on me.
But, that's what I was going out to rectify. So, after waiting around ten minutes for mom to finish getting ready, I saw mom wearing a simple blue shirt and white skirt. She honestly looked nice.
"You look lovely, mom" I said with a smile, as mom walked over to me.
"Thank you, and you look adorable!" She gushed as she pinched my cheek with a warm smile on her face.
With that, the two of us left the house and walked around Musutafu looking through various stores to get clothes my size, and by the end of it… I had enough to fill my closet.
Who would have thought that mom had so many unused coupons!?
But by the end of it, mom and I returned home with a massive cart filled with various clothes. I had the normal shirts, pants, and shirts. But then mom somehow had a bunch of coupons for some of the fancier stores too, so I also got a few suits and nice jackets.
…It was honestly kind of terrifying, watching mom drag me through the store looking at all the clothes throughout the stores. She was like a human hurricane…
With that done, mom and I spent around an hour just packing everything away, taking all of my old clothes that no longer fit me out, and placing them into a massive pile to donate at a later date.
By the end of it, my closet was practically on the brink of bursting open.
Having finished that, I had spent some time trying to figure out what I was going to do next… when an idea occurred to me.
Mom's Quirk wasn't all that strong, that was obvious. But perhaps if I managed to beat her in a fight… or a spar, then I might be able to use it for my future heroism?
It'd be kind of nice to have a piece of mom with me during my heroic career, after all.
"Hey, mom?" I asked, walking into the living room where I saw her sitting on the couch, her attention focused on watching a random soap opera.
Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings.
"Yes?" She asked, after pausing the television, looking at me with a smile.
"Do you think you'd be willing to… spar with me? I want to see if I could use your Quirk for heroics?" I asked, as she looked at me for a moment, before her smile grew wider.
"Of course, I'd be willing to help!" Mom said excitedly, as she quickly got off the couch and ran over to her bedroom.
Around five minutes later, she came back with an entirely different outfit. She was wearing a surprisingly tight green sports bra, and a pair of spandex pants.
"Oh my… I thought I'd still fit in this old thing" I heard her mutter, as she looked down at her outfit, before hyping herself up a bit, "But that doesn't matter! Izuku! Let's spar!"
Looking at her so excited to spar with me… I had to figure out how I was going to do this.
I looked at mom for a moment, and her face was scrunched up in determination, she seemed to be preparing for me to attack, even as she made several slight chopping motions, as if fully prepared to combat me.
Honestly, I don't want to hurt her, I just wanted to figure out how to get her Quirk, to gain a new Stand.
So, I did what I thought was best, and suddenly rushed at her, causing her to flinch back in shock before grappling her and pushing her to the ground.
"Waaaah!" Mom let out a shout of surprise as she went toppling to the thankfully carpeted floor, with me on top of her.
I then continued pinning her to the ground, even as she tried to struggle and worm out of my grip.
Hell, she even tried to tickle me! But I continued holding onto her arms and looking into her eyes.
Eventually, she stopped struggling and eventually just gave up and lay there, for a couple of minutes. Until I let her back up.
Right after the fight was officially concluded, I saw a green light flash from mom, and… watched as it began forming.
"Oh! Is this how they're made?" Mom asked curiously, as she watched my latest Stand get constructed.
Eventually, it had obtained its own form, and it was… rather visually interesting.
It was a humanoid… robot-like Stand, with a mostly white body with orbs of cloudy glass along its arms and legs, along with its midsection, and a pearl-like necklace. It had a singular eye in the middle of its face, and had a red tunic that flowed freely.
Looking at it, I instinctively knew what its ability was.
My latest Stand was capable of creating orbs of clouded glass, that attract small objects to it at a rather slow pace within a range of fifty meters, and once the object reaches the orbs they are absorbed into the orbs, though only one item works per orb. It was a sort of tweaked version of my mom's own Quirk.
Instinctually, I knew that it wouldn't be able to take a piece out of a person or something like that, so at least I won't be able to accidentally pull in a person's finger or something.
"Wow, this is really cool, Izuku!" Mom said, as she looked at the Stand in front of her, "This was… made from my Quirk?"
She seemed honestly amazed that it was made from a part of her, of all things.
So, I just gave her a hug, and thanked her for 'letting me beat her'.
Now, I just had to give it a name…
"[Orbit]" I said after a moment, granting the Stand its own unique name.
The Stand simply nodded, as it looked at both myself and my mom, sitting cross-legged in the middle of the air, floating with its various orbs hovering around it.
"Oh, that's a lovely name Izuku! What can it do?" Mom asked, as she looked at [Orbit] with a sense of curiosity.
I looked at it for a moment, and nodded at the Stand.
[Orbit] then created a small glass-like orb and threw it, where it then began to glow a bright blue… and slowly but surely, a small cushion was pulled towards it.
"Oooh," Mom said, as she watched the cushion finally reach the orb and… get absorbed within it.
Looking closely at it, I could just barely manage to see an image of the cushion floating within the orb.
It was honestly a pretty mesmerizing sight…
Well, I could definitely see this Stand being useful in rescue scenarios, like if I needed to get rid of a bunch of small debris, or possibly get rid of a bunch of poisonous gas.
…I would have to see if that latter idea worked, but gas counts as something less than 'small', so it should. Right? It should, and that means my latest Stand could act as a sort of air filter.
While it had fairly niche uses, it certainly wasn't useless. I could also have it disarm small weapons like knives and pistols from villains in the future.
But eventually, mom wanted to go back to watching her soap opera, apparently there was some sort of cheating scandal while one of the protagonists was in a coma… definitely interesting stuff, but that type of media just wasn’t for me.
So, I decided to head out and go back to the junkyard.
I was somewhat curious if Mei would be there or not, she was nice… and despite my one interaction with her, she was kind of the closest thing I actually even had to a friend, thanks to Kacchan.
Damn, now that I thought about it… that was kind of sad, wasn’t it?
But with that, I grabbed a couple of water bottles. And a few snacks just in case Mei went into that fugue state again, so she could at least have something to eat afterward, and I headed off to Rust Ranger’s Scrapyard.

Alright, this chapter’s a bit shorter than the previous one… and that’s because I split the chapter in half.
This isn’t even actually half of the actual Chapter 2… more like 30%? Or something like that. So this is Part 1 of the second chapter... and I'll get around to doing part 2 some other time.
