Specter Days
Ch8: The After Party.

Ch8: The After Party.

The following day, Luke went to his usual spot, Vanera coffee shop, to have some alone time and sip some tea.

The weather was nice, the sun was shining and the rays were warm and matched the calming breeze, it was the perfect day to chill.

Unluckily for him, it wasn't the case.

"Since you changed your mind about taking the glasses, let's at least join you today and celebrate the success of your solo task! You did help me with that in all cases, and spared my sister from some punches."

A pair of smirking and smiling siblings joined him, Gill and Helena.

"HOT CHIICK! bring some sweet cake and a big nice cup of milk, and whatever my sweet dear sister want to order!"

"A strawberry milkshake for me please!" Announced Helena.

"Coming right up!" Replied Karen, "and i'm not arguing with you today for not calling me properly, Luke never invited friends here so i'm not willing to ruin this moment for him."

"They are not friends Kareen !" Refuted Luke.

"Just admit it Luke, i know you are shy about such stuff." Said Karen.

"Yeah Luke , accept it, we are the best group of friends in Dove City!"

"We're best friends with mister Luuke!"repeated Helena while smiling.

Then Gill patted her head."Good girl! You know what i'm talking about!"

Luke watched the supposed wholesome scene unfolding before him, he couldn't trust Gill that much for throwing him at last night task without clearing it and telling him about the fight involved, he thought he was supposed to only give Piston the gloves, it turned out that the gloves were for him to use.

"Luke, while we are all here like the happy little family we are, i have a little thing to ask you."

"And what is this thing? "

"Wanna join us as the city soul facilitators?"

"Huh?"

"You see, last night it was obvious that you found your little meeting with that Piston guy enjoyable, i can give you more such chances if you join us, and my family is the only group of soul facilitators in the city so we are short of numbers."

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

"I can meet ghosts and all for myself if i want to, it's not like i depend on you to see them or something. What gain would i have in joining you and going on tasks you provide?"

"You see, the Shovelfield household is not your average family, we're kind of rich with a history of handling the spirit and ghost world and have our ways to finance our operations, if you're joining us, it will be like an official job, you'll get paid for your efforts, and generously even, you rarely find people able to see ghosts so you're a wanted asset for us."

Then, Gill searched his pockets and gave a piece of paper to Luke, a document containing the details of working as a soul facilitator and benefits and payment involved.

Luke couldn't hide his surprise."This high salary! Those numbers! Is this some prank ! How i'm supposed to believe you?!"

"The same way you believe in ghosts, just trust us." Then, Gill passed an enveloppe with some cash in it. " and here's an advance for last night's work"

Helena only observed the exchange between her brother and Luke while sipping her milkshake with a pink straw.

Luke took the enveloppe and count the cash." This isn't a low advance by all means!"

"You know, i was looking for some kind of job those days since i failed at starting and pursuing a serious boxing career, i think i'll take your offer, it's not like i have many options, i've been broke for a long time and it's enough i guess."

"Then its decided! Shake my hand ! And now you're officially a soul facilitator of dove city!"

Luke shook his hand "By the way, do you mean there are other soul facilitator groups? "

"Of course, do you think your ability is unique? Every city have a main Soul facilitator group and branch ones, for Dove city, the branch groups are affiliated with the main group, the Shovelfield Household, the branch ones are very few, three in total, your group and two others."

"And in which group i am?"

"Helena's group, you're quite good with your basic boxing skills, i need someone close to my sister who can defend her when she's out on risky missions, for now your group is composed of two people, and it's enough, groups can have from one to as many people, member count isn't a problem."

"I see."

"As there are solo missions, there are also group missions, you can choose whatever missions to take, your success affects your average salary as a group, more missions means more money, don't overwhelm yourself though."

"What about you Gill? What group are you on?"

"The main group, it includes the city most competent soul facilitators, me and both of our parents, we provide missions and take care of large scale hard ones including demon extermination."

Gill words only meant that he was leagues stronger than an average human, and his parents were no joke either.

"Gillll, can i have another Milkshake?" Asked Helena

"Yes dear, order all you want." Replied Gill.

"Returning to you Luke, the missions have no time limit, but not completing enough missions in a month might result in salary cuts, so, what do you have to say about this."

"Give me some task then." A glimpse of excitement could be seen in Luke's eyes.

"Oh, someone excited, okey then, here's a paper detailling your next task, it's a group task, take Helena with you, be sure to contact her by phone too whenever you're ready for it, save my number too, it's written on the same paper, and call me to update me on your progress and ask for other tasks."

"Deal, i'll be sure to update you then."

Then, Gill and his sister stood up, and left to the coffee shop exit"We have stuff to do, read the paper well, and see you later."

"See you later Gill, see you soon Helena."

"Goodbye Mister luke!" Waved Helena.

Luke opened the document that Gill gave him, it was titled :

-THE LOST GIRL OF THE NORTH SHRINE"-
