Ch 22: The mysterious disciple.

Ch 22: The mysterious disciple.

Red talismans, mystical supernatural artifacts that triggered many ghost transformations to senseless demons.

Gill got recently two of them in hand, found at the last incident sites, Dove city cinema and the historical Kendo Dojo.

He did some firsthand examination to those talismans, beside being similar in a way to the white talismans his group of soul facilitators use to forcely make the roaming ghosts depart to the afterlife, he couldn't guess their origin, they seemed fragile and easy to cut and rip off, but they obviously stored some intense negative energy that he couldn't comprehend with his current informations.

After some prior discussions with his parents, he decided to send them to his uncle residing in crow city, due to his long expertise with the other realm, and vast knowledge.

After a couple of days, he got a letter back from him.

"Dear Gill, punk, it's been a pretty long time since i heard from you and Helena, unlike your parents who are often in contact with me, you brats seem to don't care about your poor old lonely uncle, i can only feel sad since i miss you both a lot , you damn brats never seem to ..... "

'Here he goes again, nagging and dramatising the whole affair and teasing us every given opportunity, we just called him last week and here he is acting like we never check on him.' Thought Gill while smiling, the corner of his lips seemingly curling upward, the memories of his training days with his nagging old man flashing fast in his mind.

After drinking half a glass of milk, putting the glass on the table, he resumed reading.

"... After rereading the parts of your letter relating the details of the latest demon incidents , the spooky hooded individual that Helena met and the joint Red talismans a few times, i guess you have some feeling that i may have an idea about what's happening there in your city, so let me tell you that your guts are right, i'm even familiar with the talismans to a certain extent..."

'Finally! A clue!' Gill eyes shined for a moment, his decision to send the talismans to his uncle for deeper investigation was totally a good move, after all, if his uncle didn't know about them, who else could have an idea about them beside the most competent soul facilitator in the present day.

"I should tell you that i have some red talismans stored here in the treasury of the Soul facilitator training shrine, locked deep enough to not let any external individual get to them, those red evil talismans were the spoils of some old confrontations in my youth, fourty years ago, left after i exterminated some demons, and i happened to even find a good number of them stored in a case buried in an abondoned cemetry of crow city after a series of events..."

Gill frowned for a second, he did remember the shrine where he trained with Helena years ago had a treasury but he never knew the contents there, he never bothered to ask since his uncle avoided talking about it anyway.

"... the stash of red talismans in the present day is stored here, but the important thing to tell you is that a few of them disappeared a month ago, exactly five talismans, and with them disappeared one of my disciples, coincidentally, that young disciple was one of the responsibles of guarding the treasury for certain shifts , so he is obviously the prime suspect of stealing the artifacts, regarding the description of the guy Helena encountered, i think it's the same guy, i never met anyone more scarred than him in my whole long life so i can't be at fault, as you know Gill, for recruiting disciples to be future relied on soul facilitators, my only conditions are to be able to see ghosts since it's a basic needed ability, beside that, i welcome everyone and never discriminate, the desire to be a soul facilitator is enough for me..."

'Explains why the guy is familiar with me, since me and Helena used to take separate courses than the disciples , he probably knew about us well.' Thought Gill.

"...His name is Daemon , he never told me his family name, i never liked to probe that much into a disciple personnal life anyway, but one thing i refused is to have a disciple that i dont know how his figure looks like, Daemon came to the shrine with an all bandaged face, loosely tightened near his mouth so he can breath, showing only his deep black eyes and white hair, i added a condition to his entry, to show me his face, he hesitated at first, and when he removed the bandages , i could undestand well his hesitation, his face is engraved in my memory, strongly engraved that i could recall it clearly beside all the absurd things i exprienced through my life..."

'I do remember seeing a bandaged disciple in the shrine hall! So it was him!' The bandaged figure memory flashed instantly in Gill's mind, he did also remember a very young Helena feeling scared whenever he was around, and unlike her, he never felt scared of him, but he didn't bother to contact him directly either.

"...Shockingly, His pale face was all scarred, and he had a remarkable scar that cutted all the way through the corner of his mouth to the ear, and when he talked, one couldn't ignore his strangely sharp teeth, i could only pity the young soul, he was young at that moment , same age as Helena now, and his face already made me shudder ,knowing that this young poor kid had faced the harshest, cruelest, darkest experience i could possibly imagine, at that exact moment, i hugged him, i teared, i couldn't help myself, what on earth did happen to this young kid, and as you can tell already , i didn't probe more or ask him anything, i welcomed him, and managed to make him an inner disciple of my shrine, with the hopes that i can make the kid change for better, and leave his past behind, whatever it is..."

'And now look at what you did Uncle, you unintentionally raised a monster.'

"...After the disappearance of Daemon and the five talismans, i did some patrols in Crow city, and i came with one conclusion, our suspect was nowhere to be found, and he escaped the city already, and now, i know for sure that he is hiding somewhere in Dove City, with three talismans left, one you didn't redeem yet, used on the 13th street ghost, and two still at his hand, Gill, if you feel like needing support to deal with him, i can reinforce you at any time and send some of crow city soul facilitators your way, one call is enough, even if a letter was needed this time to explain the details of our current case well, i hope you can find Daemon, all i can do is pity him still, but i'm wise enough to let your justice departement to deal with him, he made grave errors , and he should atone for his sins one way or another, Gill, keep me updated of any major news , and take care of your parents, Helena, Adam, and the whole Dove city, and lastly, beware of Daemon, even i , despite my age and experience, never saw past Daemon's mind , his thoughts, goals , and ambitions were only his and he never shared them, he was only my past dear disciple, and i don't regret at all teaching him the ways of the supernatural."

Uncle's Letter ended, leaving Gill with many thoughts rumbling, and many things to consider for the next days, he will catch Daemon, he have to, before more innocents get killed to satisfy the wrath of the mysterious immortality maniac.
