Canaria, a Land of Freedom and Peace.
In the present day, the National Postal Service has becoming a museum after many events occurred--it's not even a postal company anymore! Almost everyone looked forward to attend the annual Anniversary Party, it's been so many years since they have gotten the chance to talk. Most of them can only chat on internet and speak on telephones nowadays! The photos of several figures were shown at every exhibit and in other rooms, some were either pictures on official articles or local newspapers or magazines.
Elvina Tjiadtmaja; the seventeen-years old girl was in the museum, entering inside after learning about the history of them. She is a petite girl with a long blonde hair that tied in twin braided ponytails on her shoulders, her hime-bangs almost covered her eyes with two side bangs fell onto her cheeks and the chin. With pair of dark blue ombre eyes and porcelain complexion, she wears an attire consists of white collared formal shirt with black sleeves, black shorts and wears a white socks under her white laced sneakers she wears. The tricolored bluish-black, white and red track suit jacket that she always wear.
Elvina is carefree, hyperactive and mischievous--enjoying her holiday days like swimming, going to festivals, singing, playing and she can also playing pranks for some people. Despite her hyper-energetic personality, she's still has a kind heart, well mannered and considerate with some people she trust and doesn't hesitate to help them. She also very sportive and tomboyish, due to her love of sports and interest. However, despite she always wanted to become a heroine like Mail-Hunters from years ago in Natonal Postal Service, she always fear whenever she feels too arrogant and misusing her powers so she relies too much on herself.
As she entered inside, her jaw just dropped--especially after seeing how big the building is. She can see a few paintings and pictures placed on the wall, some were the letter-like weapons that known as the Melodic Scores that is located nearby inside the safe glass box. Elvina never saw someone wore the weapon like that, and it reminds her of... something, however, she will leave the thought for later after she tried one of the food they serve at the outside cafe. Then, she saw the photos of the martyrs and heroes, walking towards the memorial to place a flower and gave a prayer.
For her, the lost ones... especially those two... have so much faith on the young trainees to understand the risk they can make. The current government of Canaria no longer like the ones in the past, now it replaced with the one-nation government called CIP (The Canarian Imperial Parliament). A prime minister with parliament elected every five years on an elected basis, serving as the head of government as the country's parliamentary system.
The photo of Lloyd Warren was placed in the middle, behind him were his mother and his siblings who passed away--he died shortly of natural causes in the hospital after saving a boy. He served as the 75th Postmaster-General until his last moments, including his contributions to the society.
The next photo is Alastair Westenra Farron, a former Vice Postmaster-General of the National Postal Service, along with a red-orange carnation that holds his picture. A man who fought until his last breath protecting his fellow heroes who were able to fight for the new hope, along with his daughter who's his successor in the National Postal Service to uncover the truth. He's the inventor of Automotive Gears and Director-General of Mail-Hunter Armed Enforcement Division--he also wrote the Book of Automotive Gear during his times as a Mail-Hunter and he was Sonata's first mentor before he passes down.
There was another photo who was Solvine Nocturna, a former Deputy Postmaster-General of the National Postal Service and Sonata's father--he was the left-hand man to Lloyd Warren and also an ex-Mail-Hunter that died peacefully with Sonata. He also the Inspector-General of Code of Conduct, Ethics and Probity and the founder of the 'Code of Practice' that protecting the employees of National Postal Service from many types of bullying and rights violation--he also known as 'Winter Wolf' by his superiors, the greatest Mail-Hunter that died with his teammates.
Elvina observed the three pictures, even there was a gold honor medal that recognized their contributions towards the society and their efforts that leads to the victory. The current government awarded them some medals and the current Pope of the Hill of Prayer Cathedral took a visit on Lloyd's final resting place in order to give his condolences and awarded him with a medal, along with the two who died alongside him. There was a bishop named Luka Clark who also participated on defeating the Spiritus Husk and destroying the Artificial Light--before his death, which the Pope canonize him as a martyr and received the Holy Paladin Holy Writ by the hands of the Pope himself. Luka was beatified as a saint and patronage of postal carriers and mailmen and made an official holiday for postal workers, which the churches of Canaria will honor them.
"Bishop Clark, huh... that ringed a bell," Elvina whispered, her expression becomes a bit sad to see the history lesson that mentions the history was becoming bloodier for the sake of the freedom. It was hard to believe, it must be a hard time and she never thought they went to that far. Then, she shivered when she saw a ghost of Lloyd Warren wandering around--it has been a public secret that there were several ghosts were sighted in the historical sites and they tend to stay or even wander aimlessly.
Every day, she wanted to be brave enough... to ask a ghost--but she need to find a place so no one will think she's a lunatic. She's not sure about the rules of finding ghosts, although her mentor is definitely helping her to understand what the ghost needs. All they ever did is, wandering around and doing a job that needs a postman to work on, but at least... she want to learn about them.
"Excuse me, uhm... are you Lloyd Warren?"
The ghost stopped in his place, turning to her as he chuckled at her curiosity. "You can see me? Well... that's neat," he said and started his introduction. "Nice to meet you, little fella. My name's Lloyd Warren, the 75th Postmaster General for Canaria and former Mail-Hunter. May I ask? What do you do in here?" he asked her with a smile.
Elvina's eyes widened, she can't believe that Lloyd Warren really approach him. Elvina is still afraid of ghosts... as much as she wants to make her wishes, the thing is they might not hear anything from the spirits of dead. Wait, he looks youthful and did not age at all so she decided to keep her emotion at bay for a moment. "I'm Elvina, Elvina Tjiadtmaja... I came here to look for something that I lost... will you help me?" she asked him, curious about his work and his duties as a Mail-Hunter when she began to explore the other parts of the museum.
Lloyd looks thoughtful and stroked his chin, his other hand was holding his signature cane. "If you tell me more about that object, of course," he said with a smile. Elvina was surprised that he seems to agree with her condition, right now; she want to look for her lost locket that she accidentally dropped in her way to the museum--it was a coincidence that she kept her locket with picture of herself and her older brother, Edward Tjiadtmaja--who she has been living together with. "It's a locket, made of silver and has a pendant that hold my photo. This is kinda weird... I'm talking with a ghost and not passing out."
Lloyd gave a soft chuckle, telling her something to calm her down. "Don't worry, young miss. I'm just a spirit, in case if you realized something happened then it is too late. Remember, it's not who you are born as, but it is who you are born to be. The people rely on us not only for every year, but also many more. The truth is we should not limit our potential for the new generations."
"Whoa... what you said is like a proverb or something."
Lloyd is amazed that the teenager he just met with is immersed, she also the only one that finally able to reach the answer of his thoughts... or is it her curiosity about his 'best friend' that will go further to make her understand his fate? They can have a really long talk right now, but... she decided to pursue it.
"Many Emissaries may be too strong and too arrogant at their times, yet in reality, each of us have good side and bad side at it. Thus, we able to maintain peace in this world."
Elvina listen carefully as Lloyd begin his story to introduce to her of their world's situation, it made her immersed until she realized that this ghost seems... 'lively' than before and more information he has told to her about Sonata and the others before his passing. Elvina listens and learn to respect him as well, acknowledging his advice on doing her best. "Well then, shall we look for your lost object?"
As Lloyd and Elvina explored around the museum, she felt confused with the architecture style--yet it has more traditional, steampunk-ish and vintage look than the modern buildings now. She's wondering what does the letter mean, she used to receive some letters once for her birthday from her parents or even teachers. Lloyd notices her curiosity of the letters and say that it's tradition to use the envelopes and letter to deliver mails to one's destination, which is a practice which has not completely died away as ordinary people may still send birthday and wedding cards in envelopes.
Elvina shrieks to see another ghost who was Alastair, he was seen standing near the display room. "Okay, I guess you guys doesn't want to rest in peace or... whatever it is," she murmured as she went to greet the intimidating-looking ghost of the former Vice Postmaster-General, who is glaring at her with his hands on his waist. "Another brat... what do you want?" Alastair asked her with his frown expression, wondering if she knows about him.
"Ah... it seems that your ego has died with you as well."
Elvina flinched when she saw that Lloyd showed up beside her and chuckled, before he glanced at Alastair. "She wants to look for her lost object, mind if we can help her?" he suggested the idea and Alastair glared at him back, raising his eyebrow and spoke. "Her lost item? I don't have time for that, I'm too busy with the other ghosts here so those two can get out. Besides, these three troublemakers still roaming around even though they're ghost now... I have to fix the situation as soon as possible."
She followed his eyesight, realizing it was Sonata, Claire and Gabriel--the ghosts who were the iconic trio of their legacy. "Holy--" before she can cursed, the trio yelling along with Sonata while running around the hallway and passing through the guests who either can see them or unable to see nor sensing them. "Please, I promise I won't disturb you sir..." Elvina begged, feeling uncomfortable as Alastair sighed deeply as he was pinching the bridge of his nose. "Don't mess around in my office, even though it looks like a display room to you--brats!" Alastair shouted with annoyance, making Elvina jumped in fright.
Agh, Alastair is still angry over the trouble those ghosts causing to their museum-slash-displayed room, with his strict authority as one of the staffs and still worked on this shift.
Elvina decided to skip him because Alastair is too intimidating and frightening to talk about, she was wondering what does he do in his office before he passed on. But she need help from him anyway--again and hope she can persuade him to help her find the lost object. Not only that, she forgot where did she lost her locket! She hates how dumb and careless she was during this time. Not there, definitely not here--she need to look around again!
"Darn it... and not even a toy shop here! If there's more locations and more rooms, I need your help. I'm in such a huge trouble!"
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
However, Lloyd is a bit surprised and startled when he saw Oswald was walking down the hallway while his ghostly presence passing the guests who might encounter him, seeing his face looked annoyed than usual before Lloyd hid behind a pillar to hide his presence. It was a funny sight to witness! Lloyd doesn't want to greet the him, unlike Alastair who immediately barged into the conversation.
Elvina was confuzzled, what the heck going on here? These three are so confusing than any ghost she met during her staying in Canaria! Does this place has the most annoying spirits ever, or what? Oswald stopped, looking down at Elvina with his deadpan and stern expression that sending chills down her spine, she can't believe that she encountered another ghost with unusual attitude and personality. She can't look back, she can't possibly make herself more vulnerable than now. "What's wrong? Ain't you going to fetch your object back?"
"I have no idea what you're saying, sir. Do you even exist or was I crazy? Can you help me to find my lost item?"
She wondered if the ghost of this place would disagree about this mission, however Oswald seems... unwilling to take her side. Perhaps he already found her annoying and useless, like she can't do anything except being a lazy brat or whatever. Is there more that she needs to--wait, after remembering something, she gasped that someone... wait, nevermind.
Elvina yelped when Lloyd pulled her wrist and running off, leaving Oswald who still having a bored, displeased and irked expression as he watched their escape. "Wait, what?!" she screeched as she was being dragged along with the ghost, she doesn't know why he would--or what was the reason that makes Lloyd running away like a madman. Not to mention, it wasn't far from the truth. "Elvina! We're in a huge danger here, I think we will get caught by him--so if you don't want to get punish by that lousy Director-General of HR Department... he was known for his strict guidelines on managing the employees."
"My object! My--Hey! Slow down, will ya?!"
"If we can't find your object, he will not let us go easily and I'm afraid that he will reprimand us--oh, no! And he's coming on our tail!"
Mathilda was standing near the lobby as her ghostly form didn't bother by other people, at least she could relax. However, not long after that she thought if she ever wanted to do some missions in the past and solving mysteries. Senja enjoyed teasing the visitors as he use his ghostly form to play pranks on them, snickering like a madman. Mathilda sighed when he wanted to help one of the visitors in searching for the lost object. "Uhm, excuse me ma'am... do you need a help to find something important?" Senja asked, holding a map while slowly began to take form behind the group that they won't realize he's just a ghost.
"Oh, yes please! You're so kind and helpful~"
As Senja was taking the picture of the girls and the boy, his mischievous smile formed as he already found some methods to get the revenge after Sonata--well, if it wasn't Alastair to see this and asked. "What are you doing here?" Senja, in a swift movement, vanished from their view and hiding behind the column and making a run towards the other rooms. It made the visitors screamed, realizing that he was a ghost.
Both Lloyd and Elvina continued to run and Elvina's shoes were slowly ruined and muddy thanks to the wet pathway. "I can't... please let me take a break... you're so fast, it's like you were racing me."
He grabbed her wrist again and running off, ignoring his fear of losing the sight of his subordinate. What he didn't know is how he ended up bringing Elvina directly at the Hall of Maestro inside the museum, passing through a door which unknown where it leads to. At least he needs to fulfill his role of showing a guide and helping visitors at the same time. "This should be safe... and more peaceful."
"Seriously... you ghosts doesn't go to heaven or something...?" Elvina asked, wondering why these spirits won't go and pass the rainbow bridge. "Well, we don't have plans on continue living in another life. That's more like a fantasy story, unless you can ask for a deity or Gods' help to grant your desires. To be honest, if you consider ourselves on what are the spirits? Nah, we just protect the nation we sworn loyalty upon and taking the responsibilities that given to us."
She stood up, watching Lloyd who stood at the center while his arms folded on his chest as he thought about. "Now, where is my locket?" she muttered, before she saw a flash and saw something on the stairway to a first-floor room.
There was a red locket that still shines in glimmering and unbreakable form, she was surprised when her object was laying on the floor without being lost forever. She dashed in a rapid speed to make sure that this is real, thankfully she did not break a sweat or even get tired and reaching the locket that was sitting in the second floor. When she stood in front of the staircase, she opened the door and taking a brief look of the other room.
The room consists of a training hall that is dark, with torches lighting the room which light was showing another part of the room. Until she got jumpscared by Alastair who popped up behind her back. "GOOD HEAVEN SAVE ME!!" Elvina shouted out loud as she leapt into the air, unaware that she was staring at the intimidating ghost whose frowning in annoyed expression. "Sorry about that, my father can be a bit scary but that's usual of him."
Claire spoke as her ghostly formed appeared in front of her, folding her arms while looking at her. Elvina sighed in relief before she immediately retreating back from Alastair out of fear, although she felt curious of the place. What this place is for? Lloyd suddenly walked through the wall and decided to place his hands onto his waist.
"Ah, this is the NPS Gymnasium, the place where we always have to workout to increase our strength and energy. If you want to build some muscles in order to do the missions, then you can come here. This isn't only a training place for the postmen, Maestros and Mail-Hunters also can practice for their missions--but it is hard, because we need to practice our high jumps to defeat Husk creatures in the past."
Elvina learned about this new-found information, listening to the conversations of the three who showed her an old relics from the past that cannot be compare to it with the present. This hall is spacious, has stone walls that covered in carved patterns to increase energy and power of their movements, alongside the antique training equipment and artifacts. The place reminded her of a gym, however she is not ready to practice her energy in here.
Seeing as Lloyd and Claire continues the conversation, it would be polite to take back the respect to her. "Thank you for your information..." she thanked them.
Then, she felt her mind swirling and she yelled when she slipped back into the 'water' beneath her.
***
Elvina yelped when she got up from the bed, realizing that it was just a dream--how the hell did that happened? Then, she look outside to see the festival going on that held by the Mail-Hunters. They're alive... which means she was exhausted to the point her dream becoming even more... surreal. She heard stories about the Melodic Scores and the National Postal Service, how brave and strong that are--as the future generation must be more brave than now.
She gets up from her bed before grabbing her clock on her headboard to check the hour, that only after making sure that she is currently not still dreaming. However, the one whom she respected was the top idol... a Mail-Hunter who always made a miracle in the battle to prevent Spiritus Husk's invasion, she wanted to be as strong as her and her friends.
After she got changed, Elvina visited the National Postal Service in Welkin City--she sighed in relief that these figures are alive now. As she encountered them, she waved at them happily and she wanted to enroll in the National Postal Service that everyone admired and loved.
"Welcome to the National Postal Service, how can we help you, miss?"
It was Cordelia who greeted her with a smile on her lips, standing beside Gilbert as they were in charge of administration and such. Elvina was determined to do something as the others been learning since now, even so... if there is something else she had to do in this beautiful city then it is worth it. If only she can do such a thing she could do so well, the thing is she never experience the hardships that people been through. "I want to become an Emissary, can I enlist?"
"Sure! However, you need to attend our special training in order to gain experience--being an Emissary is a fate for some people that been born for this, therefore if you're chosen then what you're about to get is unimaginable."
Alastair suddenly standing across her as his icy-glare causing her flinched, her spine shivered down the icy-cold glare. It was impossible for him to scare her, yet he seems determined to see her determination for this trial. "A newbie, huh? Well, you need to listen to this. As the future Emissary, you have to know how this thing can create miracles as the citizens looking forward and having trust on you as a defender of this universe. You have to make sure of everything, to don't make any mistakes... other than your own mind."
Elvina frowned slightly, knowing this wouldn't be easy to do things in order. She stared at her hand, clenched it. "Then, I will prove that I can change myself to be as great as you! Because I will no longer hesitate to give up for this," Elvina said firmly, even Alastair snorted at her declaration. He knew that every past Emissaries have insecurities, fears and even arrogance. But, it seems like she made him thinking of becoming part of his apprenticeship like Sonata and Claire.
"If you insist so much, then it is not a problem."
Elvina also encountered Sonata, Claire and Gabriel who were waiting for their turn, at least they just talking about their plan to hangout with Elvina. Suona, Xinglan and Amaris are here too! There are also Chase and Vincent standing there while they were doing their job at the field. As Elvina saw her friends that smiling happily at her, greeting and showing her a welcome to the company's lobby.
The girl clasped her hands, hoping that all will go well for her soon-to-be the happiest years of her life.
Lloyd approached, smiling at her with his calm and silent expression that filled with courage and warmth. Solvine was there as well, he was standing beside him along Suiren, Mathilda and Senja--there's Oswald on the spot and Konami across standing across him--together with everyone. "Elvina, right? Come, we have a discussion to start. This will be the beginning of your dream to fulfill, never think yourself on what you have done in the past... you are the only one who knew where does the goal lead. Time doesn't flow if it isn't matter of survival."
Solvine reassured, it appears like they weren't dead--the dream she had made her wake up in the reality to join them. "You're welcome. May the postman of future always find peace in her heart."
Elvina was happy that she always wanted to become part of postal carriers to bring out an amazing journey that her heart craving to know. With the guidance of the employees and the other, she believed this was the beginning of a new path that will open a new time of the world to give the light back to the future generations that it once shining.
"Oh right, don't forget to join our adventure too! All Mail-Hunters are looking forward to meet you!"
Sonata said to her with a smile, before the latter nodded her head. "I will, of course! There's more that you have to say. Isn't it, sir?" Elvina asked Lloyd, before seeing her surrounding was more sparkling than the reality. "I'm looking forward to knowing the situation and hearing your stories, because no matter how bad, this nation will change and grow. Just like the way we can't change the past of those times, even there are many things that became unavoidable... your legacy will stay with us forever."
After that, Elvina enlisted to become a part of the National Postal Service. The adventures will began with her decision to do this for her upcoming life. If she didn't took this chance, she will regret all her life and now as of this day is the future. As she passed the test of all phases, she received her customized Automotive Gear weapon which took form of a revolver with black and brown designs--with the teal-blue Melodic Amber attached on it. As she swung the gun, it turns into a rapier with teal-blue energy when Elvina injected her power into it.
Alongside her teammates, Elvina Tjiadtmaja became part of the New Generation Mail-Hunters that was being accepted as an honor. Thus, Elvina will continue to protect Canaria even until today and until the future comes.
As she was approaching her locker room to get her bags, the former younglings were calling her as they saw her entered. It was more than their expectation for a new member to work with them.
"Hey, Elvina!"
Gabriel called her out as she turned around, seeing those peoples including her colleagues were present in the room. "Where are you going? The celebration hasn't started yet," Gabriel said as Claire grinned widely, even Sonata was waiting for her with a smile. Elvina was surprised that they were waiting for her presence...
Even she was an idiot sometimes. she will stay with them--despite her hyperactive-energetic trait that will annoy people for most time. In the end, everything was bright and become warm.
A young girl hopes to become a Mail-Hunter and joined this company, now that her wish has come true--she can join her friends throughout this adventure together.
The Stardust Express also waiting for her, seeing that the crew has gathered for all new Mail-Hunters in delivering their parcels and letters to their destinations.
