The car came to a stop outside Ed’s home, but he was so caught up in his own mind that he barely noticed.
“We have arrived at your destination, sir.” the chauffeur said.
Ed’s head snapped up as he looked around him. Noticing that he was at his new home, he quickly got out of the car. “Thanks for the ride.”
Watching the car drive off, he turned his attention to the building. They work fast. Looks like they’ve already gotten rid of the windows. The boxes should already be gone now.
He stepped inside and formed a stool in the empty space of the first room. Sitting down, he turned his attention inwards. What happened back there?
His soul was much easier for him to find than someone else’s, but what he found completely shocked him.
Instead of the calm, smoke-like blue wisp that he had seen a few times, his soul was a sporadic and frenzied mess of red and black that traced across his entire body. The thing felt strange, and almost alien to his mind, but at the same time strangely comforting.
This isn’t anything like what I saw before. Pulling out his phone, he hurriedly searched for what a soul looked like. “The soul comes in many varieties, depending on the species that the creature is. Humans, for example, have a blue soul that typically resides around their diaphragm...”
He searched for images of human souls, all of which matched what he had already seen. There’s something wrong with me. Is it because I triggered my bloodline?
He couldn’t find the faintest trace of blue, as if nothing remained of his human soul. I don’t feel like I went through that big of a change.
His soul wasn’t as dense as the other souls he had seen. It was sparsely spread throughout his entire body, instead of being located solely in the torso. Scanning his entire body, he noticed that it was also in the stool he had created. Interesting.
He unravelled his body and spread the threads throughout the room. He flitted through all different shapes and sizes, spreading himself out as much as possible in one moment, only to snap back together into a small ball the next.
Fascinating, my soul moves in tandem with my body. I thought the soul would be a more stationary thing. I guess that’s just another difference of mine. I’ve got so much I need to figure out.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
Ed stretched his body out as wide as it could possibly go, focusing his attention on how his soul moved with the rest of his body. He watched as whenever he shifted part of his thread to somewhere else, his soul would move along with it.
Maybe how far I can move is determined by my soul... The more I look at it, the more it reminds me of Urdhuri. He also had a red current running underneath his body, but his was so much more vibrant. Why is mine mostly black?
He tried to think of a potential reason for it, but he couldn’t come up with anything. He returned to his human form and dropped back down onto the stool with a sigh. At least I now have an idea of what happened. My soul was hungry. His eyes flashed, as his mind went back to the moment Mr Milani consumed that soul in front of him. It wants to grow stronger.
He sat there for a moment, thinking through everything he had just learnt about himself. Eventually, he rose from the stool, that disappeared back into his body. I’ve still got other things I want to do today.
Ed walked into the storage room to find it completely cleared of all the boxes. That’s good. I should be able to use all the furniture for storage, and now that the windows are gone, I can just move it all into the main room.
Wrapping his threads around a piece of furniture, one by one, he rolled or carried the furniture into the main room. The threads definitely make me stronger than my normal body would be. Lifting this stuff is a breeze.
He placed the furniture up against the side walls, leaving him with plenty of space in the middle, as well as a clear path between the doors. Stepping back into the storage room, it was now completely empty. This feels much better. Now I can just use it as a hallway.
Heading upstairs, he found everything to be the same as how he left it. Passing by the boxes for now, he walked into the kitchen and made himself a sandwich. I should’ve tried to see if I could stay for lunch. Pouring himself a glass of juice, he sat down on the couch and flicked through the TV channels.
I don’t know what’s on. Might as well watch the news. Ed stopped on the first news channel he came across and sat the remote down on the table.
“The person responsible for the attack on Her Majesty, Princess Elaine, has been found and brought to justice. The attacker was a man from the Greed Circle named Olov Holmgren, whom Her Majesty has swiftly executed.”
So that’s his name. Ed watched on as the news went on to cover other stories, quickly leaving this one behind. He finished off his sandwich then got up to clean the dishes, leaving the TV to run on in the background. I should at least try and get a better Idea of what’s going on around me.
He turned his attention to the boxes he had moved up here. Opening the box with all the clothes, he went through them one by one to see what he could find. The clothes were of all different designs and styles, with most of the items being wholly unique. There were, however, a few repeats of the same items; a set of long dress pants and a plain t-shirt, that came in multiple sizes.
These must have been for practice with different sizing.
At the bottom of the box, underneath the pile of clothes, he noticed something that caught his eye. A small, leather-bound book, with no indication as to what it was used for. Is this a journal perhaps?
Curious, Ed moved some of the clothes off the couch so he could sit down and began reading.
