Chapter 187

It took him a bit to think things through. He thought through things from the perspective of who he should save, instead of who he would hire. Five people would not be touched, but three of those slots had already been taken up by people because of their age.

There’s no way I’m putting those three through this. He then took off the family man who ran a charity, leaving him with a tough decision to make. Who would be the final person he would keep the company away from?

Should he allow one of the normal people to live their life peacefully? Or should he make sure one of the criminals stayed in prison?

It was a tough decision for him. I should think of who I’m going to hire first. He sifted through the files again while trying to make a decision. He had six people left, and five slots to fill.

He decided to pick Mathew first. His life has already been ruined by the company. I don’t think he’s mentally doing well. He probably won’t last long on Earth. At least if he’s here, I might be able to help him get through this.

One slot down, four more to go. The next person he picked was the thief. Out of all the criminals, this is the most normal person. I should be able to reason with them and take them down the right path.

Two slots down, three more to go. He kept jumping between the lawyer and the streamer. I’m going to have to choose at least one of them regardless of my other choices. Who should it be? He didn’t feel like either of them deserved to live a life of suffering like him. But he didn’t have much of a choice either.

He decided to pick the streamer. She’s my best bet at getting someone who could regularly save people. And I should be able to get her to hear me out.

Only two more slots left to go. He looked at the two criminals, thinking about how they would fare in this job. They both have already killed people. One killed once and was never caught. The other was a serial killer who was imprisoned.

One was a crime of passion. The other, more like an addiction. One regrets what he did but is too cowardly to face the consequences. The other lived for the kill.

Ed sighed and picked the murderer. The serial killer would just enjoy this too much. If I’m going to be hiring murderers, I at least want them to suffer like I did. I don’t want to hire more trigger happy murderers for Buddie.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

This left him with a tough decision to make. Would he allow the serial killer to have some fun at the expense of others so that he could save an innocent person? Or would he make sure the killer received the punishment that he deserved?

He picked the serial killer. One more crazed killer won’t make a difference in the company.

His decision had been made. And the five people picked were as follows: Mathew Hale, the thief Belle Clifford, Masami Chiyoko, the murderer Jacob Lundgren, and the sadistic serial killer Roman Bernard.

Ed breathed out, releasing the tension he didn’t know he was holding. Having picked the five people he would be working with, he felt that he could relax now. Everything would be handed over to Buddie and he’d only have to work when they brought everyone in.

“Those are the five I’ve picked.” Ed got out of the chair and made his way for the door, wanting to go back to Zara’s place to rest up.

“Now we shall move onto the next task at hand.” Buddie said as Ed opened the door. Instead of seeing the familiar hallway that would lead him out of this area, he found himself in a dingy place that smelled of piss.

“What’s going on?” he asked. He knew that the doors in the private areas worked differently from everywhere else. Only one led back to the company, while the rest were more like an ordinary building with the rooms all directly connected to one another.

So what he was seeing right now didn’t make any sense. It didn’t match up with the hallway at all.

“You are responsible for your group of interns. That means you will have to personally collect them and bring them back to the company,” Buddie said in a voice only Ed could hear.

You’ve got to be kidding me? I should have known my work wouldn’t be done. He was annoyed that he couldn’t go and rest, so he decided to try and get through this as quickly as possible.

Looking around him, he found that he was in a prison cell. It was dark because it was lights out, and the smell of piss was radiating from the toilet in the corner. He could hear the sound of footsteps off in the distance. A patrolling guard was holding a flashlight and checking the cells one by one.

He looked at the crappy bunk bed that was hanging off the wall, where two people were currently sleeping. The person on the bottom bunk looked unfamiliar, and was clearly not his target.

He stretched up to see the face of the person on the top bunk. It’s Mathew. Ed crept forward, bringing himself closer to Mathew as he kept an eye out on both the sleeping prisoner and the approaching guard.

The door he walked through had been replaced by the cell’s door, but it was still open. After confirming that it would lead him back, he prepared to move.

His threads snapped forward, quickly encasing Mathew in an inescapable cocoon. Ed lifted him off the bed without making a sound, and pulled him through the door before anybody could notice.

Stepping back through the door, he found himself back in the room with only the desk, but something about it was different.
