Looks like he couldn’t make it. Ed stretched and got out of his chair as the screen faded to black. He supressed a yawn as he walked to the door. “Is there anything else I need to do today?”
“You will be free to go after checking in with your interns,” Buddie answered.
Phew, that shouldn’t be too difficult. Entering his private work space, he decided to check in on Masami first, believing that she would probably be pretty shaken up after the whole ordeal.
Stepping through the door into her room, he realised that she was handling it better than he had expected. She was still a little shaken up from it, and Ed could see some tear streaks on her face, but at least she hadn’t fully broken down.
Come to think of it, it’s actually good that she was crying. Ed felt bad for thinking that, but he would much rather deal with someone who cried tears of remorse than someone who laughed and enjoyed themselves.
This job was a tough one. It was incredibly taxing emotionally and mentally. He was glad to have someone working with him that had some sympathy for the sinners they had to punish. He hoped that he could guide her down the right path to avoid senseless killings.
The group of people he could trust was incredibly small, and it was good to see that there might be another person joining them in the near future.
Walking loud enough so as to not catch her off guard, Ed sat down beside her. “How did it go?”
She turned to look at him, her eyes puffy and red. She didn’t say anything, instead she just shook her head. It was clear that she was still struggling to come to terms with all that had happened. She wanted to be alone right now.
Ed sighed, understanding how she was feeling. This was not something a normal person would be able to adapt to in such a short amount of time. Not only had her entire life been upheaved, but she was also forced to stay in a room that practically pushed you towards insanity, all the while having to torture and kill people.
Ed realised now that the only reason he managed to handle it so well was because of his bloodline as a Sin Weaver. Both because of the strength of the bloodline, and because it had been practically training him for this his entire life. He had already been subjected to the darkest sins hidden in people’s hearts long before he came here.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
It was not something that should have happened to someone like her. She was just unlucky that Buddie had laid his eyes on her.
“I can’t say that it will get any easier. It probably never will.” Ed admitted honestly. His words making her look at him. “In fact, it might even get harder. But that is something you will have to learn to deal with.
I was in the same situation as you less than a year ago. I was one of the first people they grabbed from Earth and forced to do this. From my experience, you are in the most difficult time period right now.
This first week to ten days is the most difficult, solely because there isn’t anything else for you to do except to work. It’s all you can really think about when you’re stuck in here. It’s difficult to pull yourself out of the misery and despair that accumulates doing this job.
But once you finish your internship, the rest of the company will open up to you, and you will find a way to take your mind off things. You will be able to ease your own suffering and guilt a little bit.
You will even be allowed to go on a vacation back to Earth to visit your parents and friends.”
She looked at him in genuine surprise. There was a lot of information to unpack from what he had said, but the most important thing to her was that she could see her parents again. “Really?”
“Yes,” he nodded.
“Why are you telling me this?” She still felt like there was something strange about Ed, that she shouldn’t trust him. Which is reasonable, considering he was the one who kidnapped her. Even though she knew now that he was just following orders, she still felt a bit of resentment towards him for that.
“Because I want to encourage you to push through this. You need to get through this internship. Your life depends on it,” Ed answered honestly. “Perform well enough now so that you can make it through the internship, then I will see to it that you will get to visit your parents again.”
Ed hoped that dangling this prize in front of her would help encourage her to stay strong throughout the next ten days. He knew how close he came to dying, and he didn’t want to see that happen to her.
Both because she seemed like a genuinely nice person that he would want to work with. And because he didn’t want an innocent person to die because of him.
“Get something to eat and drink, then make sure you rest up well. You’ve got another day ahead of you tomorrow,” Ed said as he walked back to the door, leaving her on her own.
Back out in the hallway now, he thought about who he should go to next. Belle’s crimes were the least severe out of the rest of them. At least she didn’t hurt or kill anyone. I should check in on her now.
Stepping through the door, he saw her sitting in the corner, quivering as tears and snot dripped down her face before being cleaned up by magic. But no matter how many times it was cleaned up, it still just kept coming.
She is going to have a rough life here. I wonder if she can make it through the internship?
