Prompt: Everyone knows the simple rule when you make a wish- you can’t tell anyone your wish or it won’t come true. There is, however, a little known rule- if you tell someone what your wish was after it came true, whatever you wished for becomes undone.

It was an old game we would play as children.
"Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight;
I wish I may, I wish I might
Have the wish I wish tonight."
There were 3 rules.
- You can't tell anyone your wish, or it won't come true.
- Once it has come true, if you tell anyone the magic will be undone.
- And it has to be something you truly wish for.
We snuck through the forest, as we had done so many times before. the twisting pathways barely lit in the dark, holding hands to not get lost.

Climbing that familiar hill, the view of the moonlight dancing along the fluttering tops of trees.
The twinkle of the Stars reflected in her eyes, a reminder of that selfish wish I made so many years ago.
We stayed up till dawn, talking, laughing. the sunrise dyeing her brown hair the color of amber, lighting up her beautiful yet tired eyes.
Staring at her, I was overcome.
Guiltily, I began to talk, "you know that game. star light, star bright, we used to play as kids?"
"Yes?" she replied in her cute soft voice.
"I know it might be kind of dumb, but I just have to tell you, when I was young, a long time ago, I... I wished..."
I paused, it was just an old superstition, but I still felt so anxious. What if it was real, what if the magic would fade. What if... she left me.
But if it was real, I could not keep her caged. I had to know.
"I wished that... you would love me" I said looking down and away, I couldn't meet her eyes. I did not want to know if her look changed.
I could imagine the change, the way her eyes would change from Love to hate, as the magic faded, and she realized what I had done to her.
A soft hand gently parted my hair, caressing down the side of my face, to the tip of my chin, as she gently pulled my face to look back up at hers.
Her lips parted "Silly... it was not your wish, it was mine" she said, as she slowly leaned in to press her soft lips against mine.
Sometimes you don't need magic to get the things that you truly wish for.
