Chapter 16 — Invitations and Pouches

Chapter 16 — Invitations and Pouches

Downstairs, only Damian who had yet to finish his drink and Lance who joined him are still in their seats.

“So what's this test you are talking about?” Damian asked.

“You will know in three days.”

“Three days?”

Lance took a sip from the goblet where a blood colored wine filled it before he nodded.

“There you are being vague again.”

Damian chugged down the whole alcohol in his mug before slamming it down the table.

“Let me guess! You'll give him mission to kill some dangerous monsters or something in the hunt that will happen in three days.”

“Something like that.”

He then drunk the rest of his wine, before he stood up and leave out of the room.

“Tsk.”

Damian also followed but he first called for the waitress to clean their dishes for them before going back upstairs in his room.

Next morning a carriage with the insignia of the city stopped in front of the inn. A well dressed man in white gloves came down from it and entered the establishment.

A moment later he came outside and the carriage went on dragged by the well-bred horses back to their house.

When Lance woke up and went down the dining hall the receptionist called for him.

“What is it?"

“Sir Lance a letter was delivered here by the butler of His Excellency, Lord Cartel.”

She then offered it to him carefully like it was something ever so precious.

He took it and continued his way towards the dining hall, in the table where Ezekiel and Damian are.

“What does the letter say captain?” Ezekiel asked, looking at the white envelope with a red wax with an insignia to seal it close.

Lance took a seat first before he answered, “An invitation for a tea or something.”

“How did you know, you didn't even open the letter?”

“Its always the same.” he briefly replied before he called for the waitress and ordered a meal for breakfast.

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

Damian swallowed his food, then glanced at Lance's attire, “Do you need to buy formal clothes?”

“There's no need to keep a facade like that.”

He crudely tore the wax off to open the envelope and took a piece of white paper folded perfectly out of it.

“Lunch, Dinner, or Tea time?”

“Lunch, and it says that we are all invited not just me.”

Lance then folded back the letter before he put it back inside.

Damian pointed the spoon towards himself with face that had an expression full of puzzlement, “Us too?”

“Yes, all of us.”

“Oh! Then I can head to a noble mansion!” Ezekiel cheered happily.

“Aren't mansions of nobles are like your second home?”

“Well I was always there at night, it would be my first time in a day!” he said that with tone of someone that just was walking around those mansion.

Damian shook his head and continued eating while Ezekiel stood up from his seat.

“Finished?” Lance who was still waiting for his food to arrived glanced at his still not empty plate.

“Yes, after hearing that we'll go to a noble's mansion I remembered something, I almost forgot that I still have a job.”

Ezekiel knocked on his head lightly and show his tongue, a cute act unbefitting of the true meaning of those words.

However just as he was about to leave the table Lance stopped him.

“Here.” he tossed something which he took out of his waist bag towards him.

Ezekiel caught the leather pouch that was thrown at him which created the sound small metals clattering on each other.

Seeing his puzzled expression Lance explained, “Allowance, use it however you want to.”

Hearing that Ezekiel smile bloomed like a kid that was given money by his parents—not the same but close.

“Thanks captain!”

He then happily went out of the inn, When his visage disappeared Damian immidiately turned his gazed at Lance who had his food being served, with anticipation.

“There's none for you.”

“Why!?”

“Because you already took it.”

“Tsk, so you knew it.”

Damian grudgingly stood up from his seat, with his back towards Lance he waved his hand before leaving his words.

“I'm leaving, and about that invitation I'm not coming!”

Lance did not watched him off as he focused on his food.

In the middle of his feast others started to wake up and went down for breakfast, and everyone of them got their allowance from Lance, he was already finished his food when the last one to woke up, Kyrille arrived.

The corner of her eyes were red and her face was one without a pride instead it was all gloom, she took a seat next to Alexis as usual.

“All of us are invited by this city's noble for a lunch, if you are interested come back here before the bell sounded the second time.” Lance stood up and left after what he said, but he turned around to give Kyrille's pocket money.

She was looked on the pouch that has coins inside in front of her when Alexis finished his food and leave off his seat.

He was about to walk away when Kyrille's hand grabbed the ends of his robe.

And without looking at him, Kyrille said in a tone that it made her words sounded more of an order, “Stay here and wait for me.”

Alexis wanted to say no, but her grip on the hemp of his robe was stronger than he thought, in the end he decided to just wait for her to finished her breakfast after he heard his already tattered robe screamed.

Kyrille took a lot of time to finished her breakfast that other people staying at the inn slowly left, it made them the only one to stay here at the dining hall.

When she finally finished Alexis courage grew as he couldn't help but asked, “Why did you told me to stay?”

She wiped her lips with a white cloth she took from who-knows-where before she answered, “Just because.”

“Wha—”

He didn't get to finish the rest of his words when she stood up and head towards the door of the inn.

As she was pulling his robe Alexis was forced to go too he gave up in struggling instead change his question, “Where are you—no, we going?”

“To where we can use this.”

Kyrille showed the pouch given to each of them by Lance.

“But I am going to shop too!” Alexis complained.

“Then let's do it together, I just need someone to carry what will I buy.” she said as she opened the door.

The two of them then left the inn and walk towards the street, Alexis let her lead the way for him.
