Chapter 3- Hope you guys enjoy!

-------------------------------------------

As he left the sewers, he was greeted by the lightless night of a new moon. Putting on the hood of hos cloak, he began to walk along the city, trying to find something to steal.

After a few minutes, he found an open window of an inn connected to a dark alleyway. It looked as if he would be able to climb up onto it due to the already made footholds, well holes actually.

Determined to begin the pillaging, he crept into the alley and began sliding his hands across the wall, making sure to grip tightly against the holds.

After a few minutes he found the perfect sized hole. “Perfect.” He moved away from the wall to get a running start. He ran up to the wall, put his foot in the hole, and pushed himself upward.

He just barely managed to grab the ledge of the window. When he pulled himself up, he found a man sleeping in a bed. He was snorig and seemed to be sound asleep.

He looked to be either a mercenary or adventurer from all the scars on his face. Sear crept in and begin to open the closet. He found a coin purse in it which contained 330 pots. He decided to take the pots but left the purse. He looked under the bed to see if the man had left anything there, and he found a jackpot.

He found a steel sword in a hide sheath. He unsheathed the sword and looked at the light reflecting off of it. He knew it was of high quality due to the shine and ring of the blade as he swung it around.

He tried the edge against his nail and found that it was very sharp. He looked around the room but found nothing else.

Happy with what he got, he climbed onto the window ledge and jumped down. He hid the sword with its scabbard in his cloak and continued down the path. After a few minutes of walking, he realized he was being followed.

He walked into an alleyway when he got ambushed. “Give us everything you got if you don’t wanna get hurt you scum!” The man pointing the copper blade at him looked very raggedy, and Sear could tell that this man was not anything to fear. He looked around and found that the other 2 men surrounding him were much the same, except they didn’t have blades.

Not wanting to waste time, he unsheathed both the dagger and the steel sword, and went to work. A few minutes later, he walked out of the alley with 20 more pots and a very bad copper sword he could sell.

“That’s about enough for one night I guess.”

He walked back into the sewers in the black of night and went back into the base. Once there, he sold the copper sword for a meager 30 pots and decided to go see what his store room looked like. Upon reaching his room, he took out the steel sword and decided to go to work.

He knew that very few people would be down here at this time so it was time for him to go to work. The first thing he did was cut his finger with the broadsword and let a few drops of blood fall onto it. Next, he began the incantations.

"Ilgor herectuim, zectur juhfil dudlifim helgore!” The sword shined with a dark light, as just above the handle guard a small rune was carved into the blade with his blood. He had just successfully enchanted the sword to be a sword of darkness. Anytime the sword cut into another living thing, it would slowly lose its vision until they could see but a small line of light in the center.

He still wasn’t very powerful, so the effect would only last for 30 seconds, but it would still prove useful in battle. He hid the sword in one of the crates and took out his dagger. He did the same time but this time he enchanted it to make the opponent nauseas. He knew that an enchantment like this would be very good to have in case he was ever spotted.

Happy with what he did, he put away 300 pots to keep in save for later use. He left once again and made his way over to the training room.

When he entered, he saw it was a large room with weapon racks on some walls, targets on other walls, and fighting rings carved into the ground. He went over to pick up one of the short swords and decided to practice with it, as it had been a long time since he used one.

He went over to the dummy and began to slice away at it, tearing bits of the material off. After a few hits, he managed the cut through the neck and decapitated it. He put away the short sword and moved over to the targets.

He grabbed his newly enchanted dagger and balanced it on his fingers, trying to find the point of balance. Once he found it, he gripped it and threw it straight into the bullseye.

By now people were once again watching him, as very few people could fight as he could and none were near his age. He decided that repeatedly hitting the target wouldn’t do anything so he walked up to one of the better men training.

"Would you like to spar with me?” Sear took on his innocent look once again to try to convince the man.

“Sparring with you, hah what a joke. I’ll go easy on you I guess.” He picked up two wooden broadswords and threw one at Sear. Catching it st the very tip, he turned around. They both moved to the ring and positioned themselves, getting ready to fight.

“Three, two, one, BEGIN!”

Once again there was someone there to start the fight. At the start, Sear dashed forward and attempted to jab his opponent in the chest. His opponent managed to parry him and almost landed a hit onto his neck. He took his stance once more, and charged back in. He tried cutting diagonally across the man’s chest, and he managed to land a hit.

Too bad it did almost nothing as only the tip touched the man’s armor. He decided to continue in his barrage, sending wild strikes anywhere he could. He managed to get a hit few hits and the man began to back up. Realizing he had gotten the man near the edge, he jabbed the man, sending the tip of the sword into the man’s chest.

The man almost fell out put managed to pull himself up by grabbing onto Sear at the last second. The man began to move his sword in an 8, getting ready to create a boundary between the two. He slowly crawled forward towards Sear and then lashed out with his sword.

The blow came so fast and quick that Sear was unable to block it, and he got hit near the elbow, making it hard for him to bend it properly. The man’s blow came so fast that it looked as if the man had simply flicked his arm towards Sear and the next thing he knew he had gotten hit.

Now aware of the man's attack, Sear took an offensive position and began to move towards the man, throwing random swipes every now and then.

The man blocked each with such ease that he began to get angry. His thoughts turned irrationally and Sear began to go wild on the man. He attacked with such random and uncoordinated attacks that he actually managed to get past the man’s defense. In the end, that did nothing for when he passed the man’s defense, he got knocked straight into the floor by a hit to the side of his neck.

He could feel his entire brain being shaken by the blow. The man put the sword to Sear’s neck, and he was the decided winner.

“You’re nothing than a faker. You have no skill in the art of sword handling.” With that the man walked away leaving Sear on the ground. He got up, angry with himself for being so bad, for losing to another man. He left the room and took another look at his map, trying to find his sleeping quarters. He laid down and decided to sleep the anger away.

Sear got up feeling relieved the next morning. When he stood, he felt his entire body shake from the beating he had received yesterday from the two fights. He went over to the blacksmith and with the money he had left, bought a badly made wooden short bow and 6 copper arrows.

He decided that thieving during the day would only get him into trouble, so he decided to go out into the forest east of the city to go hunting. He remembered all the training he had with a bow.

Since both of his parents had died when he was young and most of the village hated him, he was left to make money by himself, so he hunted and sold most of the game he caught, while learning to thieve when he could.

He also decided that it would be a good idea to go explore the city and find the nobles area, so that he could steal from some of the higher ups. He took a look at the huge stone wall in front of him, the wall that separated the city from the outside lands.

Once again the guards stopped him and he had to explain what he was doing. Once outside the city, he walked in the direction of the forest. On the way there, he spotted a lone wolf walking through the plains.

He nocked an arrow in his bow and took a shot. The arrow landed a bit left of the wolf’s ear, just barely grazing the wolf’s neck. That was already enough to get its attention, so he nocked another arrow and took his second shot, which connected with one of the wolf’s hind legs.

He took out his dagger and when the wolf pounced on him, drove it into its heart, killing it on the spot. He took the dead carcass with him and continued hunting until the later noon.

Once back in the city, he sold all the pelt and meat he had gotten, earning him 570 pots. He decided that now would be a good time to explore the city. He went back to the sewer entrance and decided to go west along the wall. He found all sorts of shops in the streets. People were selling hides, clothing, tools, weapons, armor, some priests were even selling their services.

He passed what he assumed were the slums, and moved his way to the middle class area. Here he found better shops including glassmakers and carpenters. He spotted a few shops that seemed easy to steal from and that seemed to be of worth. He continued on walking for another while, but by the time it got dark, he had gone around half of the wall and still not found the noble district.

He walked into the nearest alley and covered himself with his cloak, waiting for it to get darker so that he could go into a shop. He waited for a few hours, taking the time to just mess around with the magical energy around him. He was slowly learning how to use it for more than just dark magic, as he managed to heat up and cool the air around him however necessary.

Once it became darker, Sear walked out of the alley and put on his cloak, eyeing any of the surrounding shops. He climbed onto the roof of one and looked around. After a while, he found what he was looking for, a chimney that connected to a small blacksmith.

He ran from roof to roof, looking out to make sure that very few people saw him. To make him even less visible, he crouched at whenever he was near the street. After nearly falling about 7 or 8 times, he finally made it to the chimney. It was old and the brick had turned grey from all the weather it endured.

He climbed onto it and looked down, seeing if he had enough space to get to the bottom. Deciding that he did, he climbed down to go see what he could find.
