A Smile

"Judy!" Sam shouted and stepped forward to catch her.

Holding her close, she helped her as they entered, after walking for a bit she finally saw an open door and behind it she saw a messy bed and room, lying Judy in the bed she told her that she'll be back before going and closing the door.

When she entered she saw Judy sitting on her bed, she looked at her and murmured in a low tone:

"Sorry for troubling you..."

"It's alright, there's no need for you to be sorry," Sam answered with a gentle smile.

Then she got a chair and sit next to the bed, and they fell into an awkward silence.

Neither of them knew what to say for a while and they just sit there in silence, listening to each other's breathing.

"How are you? Are you getting better?" Finally, Sam couldn't take it and asked the most generic question. She couldn't be blamed actually, it was the only thing she could think of.

"I'm good, you know just the usual When you're ill, cough... Just a bit weak and have a fever... Nothing unusual." Judy answered with a smile, before adding as she felt that if she didn't they would fell into another wave of silence:

"And how was work, did Robin or Alex help you?"

"It was just me and the manager for the first two days but then she called Robin as she was worried that I couldn't handle it for three days straight."

After a few exchanges, they fell into silence again.

Sam's head was a mess, for some reason she could hardly calm down, everything around her had Judy's presence, and she found that she was too self-conscious while in her bedroom.

Judy wasn't wearing any makeup and it was Sam's first time seeing her like that, she was surprised when she saw that Judy was actually quite a beauty even without her make up.

"Hey, Sam... Ca... Can you tell me about your girlfriend..."

While Sam was still lost in her thoughts she heard Judy's faint voice and she froze.

She opened and closed her mouth with quivering lips for a while but nothing came out.

Seeing Sam's expression and her struggle, Judy felt that she shouldn't have mentioned that, but she just couldn't stop herself from thinking about what Dan said while they were sitting there in silence.

"I... If you don't want to it's alright, I was... Was just a bit curious, that's all..." Judy hurriedly said after a while had passed and no voice was heard from Sam, she was actually a bit afraid that Sam might just stand up and leave.

"N... No... It's alright... I... I will tell you..." Judy heard a trembling faint, voice, it was Sam's and each word she said was heavy and seemed as if took her all her strength to say it.

"Sam...?" Even though she was the one who asked the question, Judy still felt that something was wrong with Sam at that moment.

"It's alright... Actually, Brittney is... My girlfriend's name is Brittney... She is a great lover..." Sam said with a smile which was obviously forced and a clenched fists.

Hearing the name which Dan said with all that hate, being said by Sam, Judy listened carefully with a beating heart, she wanted to know if something was wrong or if it was just Dan playing tricks on her...

"I met her at first in high school... She is older than me, prettier than me, and had a great personality... I got interested in her at first sight... After that, we talked and met for a few more times... She was so interesting, gentle and lovely, I just couldn't remove her from my mind each time after we met... She was just perfect..."

Sam couldn't keep on looking at Judy while speaking, she lowered her head and kept on talking.

She had no idea why she was saying all of that to Judy, she just wanted her to listen.

"... He... Hey, Judy... You're my friend... Right..." Just as Judy was waiting for Sam to continue her story, she was surprised as the latter lifted her head and asked her with tears in her eyes.

"Yes, of course, I'm, don't you think of me as one?" Even though she was surprised, Judy still answered without hesitation.

"... Yes... A friend... Of course, I think of you as a friend..." Whispered Sam faintly.

Then she lifted her head and continued:

"As I said... Was just too perfect and soon I fell for her... You know how the feeling of falling in love is, the excitement, the heart-throbbing, the angst and pain when you think that you're not for them and that they will never be yours, I felt all of those, and she was my first love, si it was so special to me... I loved her so much..."

"... I was the one to confess, it was mostly because I couldn't hold it on anymore, I expected to get rejected, I thought that she was so out of my league after all... But she accepted my confession... I couldn't believe it... I was so happy and I felt as if I could fly..." Talking about that, Sam's face had a gentle smile as if remembering something so precious, a memory she lived in for a long time... A memory she replayed more than once.

"So we started dating... And it was just like a dream... She was so gentle and sweet and so lovely... Sob... I loved her so much..."

Judy just watched as tears fell down Sam's eyes while she was still wearing the same smile, it was a gentle smile... A pitiful smile...
