Prologue

A woman lounges languidly on a luxurious leather couch atop a plane of translucent gold floating within a vast expanse of space, various stars and nebulae of all colors surrounding her in all directions, facing a round object reminiscent of a mirror. The lounging woman resembles a statue in appearance, with luminescent gold skin and hair composed of an onyx so black it appears to consume the light she is emitting. Garbed in nothing but a blindfold and a simple robe, both matching her hair in color, the statuesque woman faces the mirror-like object and seems to gaze at the image shown through the cloth covering her eyes.

The image shown is not a reflection of the woman, rather, it depicts a dimly lit hospital room with only two occupants from above. An elderly man connected to various medical equipment lies in the bed asleep, with a middle aged man next to him dozing on one of the chairs in the room. As the woman watches the peaceful scene in front of her, she starts to mutter aloud to herself, “While he would make an excellent Saint, living a fulfilling life sticking to his beliefs to the very end, he would just resent me for bringing him to a world far from his family and loved ones. I’ll just let his journey end here peacefully near those he held dear.” Moments after saying as much, the heart monitor connected to the old man begins to flatline, waking the man next to him who immediately began shouting out for doctors and family members to come quickly, but just as the door began to open for newcomers to enter, the lounging woman waved her hand in front of herself and the image depicted on the mirror-like object changed.

A police officer bleeding from a bullet wound next to his partner, a woman huddled over a child as flames rage all around her, a man inside a car as another vehicle impacts it suddenly, these images and more like it appear one after the other as the woman continues to sweep her hand midair over and over whilst muttering to herself. “Too attached to their home, follows a god already and wouldn’t care to work for another, too patriotic.” Again and again, the golden woman complains aloud whilst changing the image depicted, looking for someone to fit her unknown criteria, until finally, she stops at one image.

The scene depicts another dimly lit room, but instead of being filled with medical equipment, this room is occupied by sofas and plush chairs next to wooden tables of various sizes and shapes. A smoky haze fills the room, and its occupants consist mainly of men lounging on the seats and scantily dressed women serving drinks or sitting beside the lounging men talking amongst each other. Particularly, the image shows three people in particular who appear to be near one of the room's doorways. A muscular man is gripping the wrist of one woman, or rather girl, and is trying to lead her out of the room, when a fairly tall woman steps in front of him blocking his path to confront him. She starts out speaking in a calm manner, but as the man refuses to let go, she starts to become more heated and animated in demeanor. As the scene evolves into an argument breaking out, the woman observing it all speaks aloud once more, “Strong-willed, very empathetic towards those in unfortunate situations, no family, at least that she is aware of, and best of all, she will take particular issue with one of the major problems plaguing my piece of Dharta! She will be a little lost out in the world and has other issues plaguing her due to living a life of captivity for so long, but I can’t waste time trying to find a perfect candidate and test his patience, so I’ll have to gamble it all on her.”

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

As the golden woman spoke, the depicted scene grew more and more heated, until the man struck the tall woman across the face, knocking her down. Luckily for the golden woman, and unfortunately for the tall woman shown on the mirror-like object, the tall woman happened to fall onto a nearby end table and struck her head on it in just the right way for her neck to twist wrong, ending her life right then and there. As the scene became panicked due to the sudden death, an ethereal ball of light unseen to any of the humans in the room began to rise from the tall woman’s corpse. Right then, the golden observer reached her arm into the mirror-like object, causing a ripple to spread on its surface, and swiftly grabbed the ball of light before anyone even noticed anything.

Now holding the ethereal ball of light, or rather a manifestation of the tall woman’s soul, in her palm, the golden woman began weaving a magical spell with her free hand. Right before she finished her spell, the woman spoke one more time, “Chloe Wright, you lived a harsh life, and I can not promise it will become better in Dharta, but with this blessing I bestow upon you, I hope you can live your life to the fullest and bring Justice to those who spread Injustice. You will not hear this message, but I will watch over your journey and see how you develop.” With a smile, the golden woman completed her spell, the soul vanishing from her palm soon after.

A few moments passed, until the brief smile left the golden woman's face as she muttered one last time, “Now I just need to hope the Dhartic System bestows you with a starting point you can be satisfied with.”
