The message popped up in front of me once I got within a few yards of a broken gate that was part of a wooden wall surrounding the town. Stepping back a few steps replaced the message with one telling me that I had left the domain, so I figured that Rusalka’s Creek was the name of the town, as I did see that a stream of water cuts through the center of the town when I was up the hill. I’m unsure what a domain is, maybe just a name for an area, or something like that, but I felt that knowing what the ruined town was called didn’t really matter that much, so I entered anyway.
Now though, I am currently rummaging around the building closest to the gateway. There is honestly nothing useful, the house being extremely barren and filled with nothing but broken and rotted furniture, and tons of dust. I know that the town is in ruins currently, but I figure there should be at least some signs that people lived here when the town went to shit. Unless the town was abandoned entirely and that is why it's in its current state? I mean, from the lack of damage besides natural decay on the wooden buildings and walls, the town must've fallen from something other than battle or natural disaster. I leave that house, finding nothing of use, and check some of the other houses to find similar results. I’ve been on the lookout for more undead whilst doing this, but nothing has come up yet, and I get through house after house, finding them all to be empty of anything like clothes, food, tools, etcetera.
Getting annoyed by the lack of results, I exit the house I’m currently in and check for any buildings that stand out from the other one-story, single room wooden hovels I have been checking up until now. Peeking further down the road, I spot a couple interesting things for me to investigate. Since most of the buildings I see are small, single-story affairs, the three outliers I spot stick out like a sore thumb. The oddity closest to me, located a few buildings down the dirt road, is a larger two-story building that looks to have a small fenced off yard to the side. Other than its size difference, the fact that it is made from what looks to be stone or clay, rather than the wood that most of the houses are made of, makes it an appealing first destination for me to check out.
Other than that first building, which I start walking towards while keeping my head on a swivel looking for skeletons, The other two noteworthy buildings are located past a small wooden bridge that connects the dirt path on this side to the other half of town that is split up by a river crossing the town. They are opposite each other, located nearest to the bridge, with one being a two story building composed of a mixture of stone and wood, and the other being the largest building in the whole town, towering over all the others with its three stories.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
Before worrying about the two past the bridge, I have to look through the first one that caught my eye, which I have now reached the front door of. The first thing I notice now that I have gotten this close is just how much better this building looks than the others. I’m not talking about how it was built or how it's made of stone instead of wood, but how it seems to be fully intact with very little wear, including the wooden door in front of me with almost no rot or decay to be found and having no rust on its metal doorknob. I wouldn't exactly say the structure is pristine, but it's in much better shape than any of the other abandoned buildings surrounding it.
This doesn’t deter me though, and I go ahead and try to enter, finding the door to be unlocked. I scan the room and take in all of its detail, seeing that the interior is much more intact than I expected. I’m met with a spacious room filled with 3 rows of long wooden tables, each with a pair of long benches to accompany them, a room in the back that I can see is a kitchen due to an opening in the wall with a counter on it that I assume was so whoever resided here could get food. Besides the big eating area, there was a stairway leading to the second floor in the back left corner of the room, and a door leading outside to the fenced off yard to the far right of the expansive area. Surprisingly, all the furniture I spotted was in good shape and fully intact, and when I approached one of the benches and sat down, it didn't strain under my weight whatsoever.
Going over to the kitchen area first, I open the door to see what I can tell is a kitchen, but much more rustic than what I am used to. The room is mostly occupied by stone counters, with a fireplace set into the back wall still having a simple cooking spit with a pot hanging from it set above long burnt out logs. Checking inside it just in case, I find the pot to be empty as expected, but it does look to still be useful if I need to cook something. Speaking of, that reminds me that I haven’t eaten anything since coming to this world, and luckily I don’t feel hungry yet, but I should still try and find something edible. The river should be somewhat safe to drink from since the town settled down by it, but I can also boil it in my newfound pot to not risk anything. Other than that cooking utensil, I found a couple of kitchen knives and a ladle laying about the room, all in weirdly good condition like the rest of this building. I consider carrying one of the knives with me since it could be a useful weapon, but as I try to activate [Light Of Justice] on it and nothing happens, I decide to leave the pair of knives and ladle here to get later once I have something or somewhere to store them.
Finding nothing else, I head over to the door leading out to the fenced yard just to check it out real quick, and a quick peek reveals a few rotted wooden poles sticking out from the dirt, but nothing else to pique my interest. Closing the door behind me, I walk to the opposite side of the room and head to the corner to check out my next objective, the stairway upwards.
