I am Guard Captain Douglas Wheedon, and this entry will summarize the events related to my posting here in Littlecreek up until I received this inscribed logbook from the capital. My unit of guards departed the city of Refuge on the 38th of Duomont earlier this year, along with a caravan consisting of a dozen citizens with various classes necessary for town settlement, as part of the decree from the Deacon. We faced little difficulty during our travels here, with fairly infrequent monster attacks, and arrived at our destination after a week's journey. Since we started the outpost at the very edge of the forest border of the Wildlands, we had plenty of wood to construct with, and a couple of my guards discovered a cave whilst following the creek into the woods that we could mine deposits of iron and quarry stone from. A few weeks back, a few representatives from the Adventurer’s Guild arrived to build a branch here along with an inn right across from it for their members or any other travelers to stay at, which should help in reducing the number of monsters located nearby. Most of the townspeople currently reside in small, single-room abodes, which should start to be replaced once the wall has been completed and the guard barracks is finished, but there have been few complaints from the citizens otherwise. Overall, the Littlecreek outpost is growing steadily and has not faced any noteworthy setbacks.

Intrigued by the first page’s entry, I start to skim through the logbook to see if I can find any more interesting information. Most of it is dull though, such as the guards stopping small bar fights at the Adventurer’s Guild or going on routine patrols. The guard captain recounted a couple instances where monsters attacked, but by the time the monsters called “Moss Wolves” attacked, the wooden walls had been completed already, so the wolves were easily driven off by the mages and archers from both the guard and Adventurer’s Guild. This Adventurer’s Guild is actually mentioned quite a bit in the logbook, describing the ways they help and hinder the town guard’s operations with their activities. From what I can gather, the Guild employs people to fight monsters or gather materials in dangerous areas, but Captain Wheedon often described the members as rowdy and unprofessional, and especially got tired of mediating the constant fights that would pop up between drunken adventurer parties.
Based on descriptions and context clues found within the logs, the two buildings across the river I spotted must be the Adventurer’s Guild branch and the Inn they built across from it. Both buildings could be promising to check out, as their main occupants consisted of people who hunt monsters for a living, but I still want to finish reading up on the town before I do so. Since I’m not very interested in the more mundane events around the settlement of the town, and want to actually learn more about why it's currently in ruins, I flip to the last written entry about two thirds of the way into the logbook, and go back a few pages to figure out why Littlecreek fell.

Today was a sad day for Littlecreek. A couple of days ago, Miss Westworth’s youngest daughter, Angeline, had gotten sick with a fever, and over the past two days her condition had worsened until this morning she finally succumbed to her illness. Since Littlecreek is still a small outpost, everyone knew of little Angie, and the whole town has been devastated by the news. What is more concerning however, is the unusual symptoms such as sickly green patches appearing on her skin or how bloodshot her eyes had become, which accompanied the usual symptoms of a sickness such as vomiting and excessive coughing. I hope I’m worrying over nothing, but just in case I've had my guards keep an eye out for others sharing her symptoms.

It was just as I feared, plague has now struck our home. Over the past few days, more and more people have gotten sick, with a couple of them already bedridden and covered in the green patches of skin that Angeline had. We haven’t had any visitors come to town in over a month, so I've been looking for the cause of this outbreak, only to come up empty handed. All the town is free of pests such as rats, and we have confirmed with all the townsfolk that no one has started dumping their waste into the river and contaminating it, so I don’t currently have a clue as to where the plague could have originated from. Most of the adventurers have now fled the town, fearing that they might get infected, but many of the people who live here have nowhere else to go. The inn manager left with his wife, leaving their rabbit who had gotten infected behind, but luckily for us they left it chained up in the stable so it wouldn't spread the disease onto the rest of us. I am safe for now, possibly due to my high Endurance helping to fend off the plague, but a couple of my guards have abandoned their post to flee with their families, which I would like to condemn them for, but if I had a family of my own, I might have done the same.

I’m the only healthy person remaining. The other’s who were healthy enough to flee have done so, leaving behind over a dozen of those who are infected. At first, I was thankful for my Endurance protecting me from the disease, but now, I'm not so sure. I’ve had to watch many I have come to know and care about waste away to death, being completely unable to do anything about it. I might have only lived here for a bit over three years, but Littlecreek has become my home, and I will stay and defend those who still remain from that which threatens them until no more remain.

Today was shit. It's been cloudy all day, with fog covering the whole town, and some bastard decides to sneak into town to loot after hearing about how we are suffering from a plague. Guess he didn't hear about the completely healthy guard captain still roaming the streets when he made MY town his target. But because of that fucker, Gavin is now dead. He was attacked by some monster when he went to get drinking water, and was dragged into the river and drowned by it. I might've been able to help if I wasn't locking up the bastard thief. I won't let it end like that though, I’m going to go and avenge Gavin right now. I should've been able to prevent this, I’m only good at killing monsters after all. Why did this have to happen to us, I thought we were accomplishing the goddesses’ decree?
