Chapter 1 : Do I have to wake up?

Chapter 1 : Do I have to wake up?

In the middle of a grassy field there stood a circular table, while a radiant light blue color light was reflecting off it as if coming from the sun. Despite the sky being dark and empty, if not for the frequently passing comets and shooting stars.

At the centre of it and a few feet off the surface there was a black orb which was floating. The table itself had many varied gold colored symbols that were still forming more and glowed once they each finished forming.

When most of the table got covered with them ripples started to form on the black orb and two thin tendrils stretched out from its sides and combined together while fixating towards below.

It then shot down and into the table where it disappeared for more than a few minutes and later came back up retracting itself into the rippling shadowy mass that stabilized and turned back into the orb shape.

The engravings soon stopped glowing and erased when the orb slowly floated away settling on top of chair that was opposite to a similar one with the table between both.

More changes start to occur in it's form as the size kept on increasing from different points with no recognizable pattern until at some point where it resembled a young child or rather the shape of a one with a silhouetted appearance in the same color and murky texture as when it was spherical.

It kept growing further first into an adolescent child, then to a teenager later a young adult before turning into an adult man for the longest period of time before finally stopped by growing into an old man with slightly hunched back and with not a single human feature except for the detailed shape that looked like a shadow was cast on an old person.

Tilting his head up towards the sky he made a sound for the first time.

"Haha hahaha!"

Producing deep laughter with a clear but aged he then peered through some clouds looking at a young man falling from above. The young man looked very much like how he did when he was in midst of growing from the teenage to young adult form, only the young man had complete human features and clothes instead of a shadowy mist flowing in and out of him.

He ceased his laughter once he began to look far past the young man meanwhile ignoring every passing meteors and comets revolving around the planet's orbit as he focused on one red comet that instead of just passing by was coming towards him and the planet where he was on.

Soon he pulled his gaze back and tilting his head downwards.

"I've messed up"

He said while pinching the area where the bridge of a person's nose is supposed to be.

********

Silence.

That was the only thing present inside the college hostel before the sun had fully risen, save for the gentle whirring of the ceiling fans, dripping sounds from the faucets and few other quiet sounds inside the building.

Outside there was the rustling of winds and the chirping from the flocks of bird that kept growing distant only for another flock to pass by and take their place with each cycle being more frequent than the last.

Usually when I'm pointing out these things it means that I've already woken up and am ready to begin my day.

Starting from a lukewarm glass of water to some light stretches, brushing teeth, so on and so forth until finally getting a shower where I loosely plan the rest of my day.

"Why do I get to have this problem?"

And no, it wasn't about my habit of speaking to myself.

But rather the fact that how badly my leg cramps were preventing me to move without giving the sensation of a thousand ants crawling up my feet and through them. When I closed my eyes and tried to force sleeping it instead of receding just got worse.

Finally at the end of my wits I chose to see the source of this problem and ended up seeing something far stranger than I could have imagined.

There was a long tendril made up of some black shadowy material, wrapped at calves of both my legs while coming from under the bed. Too soft for me to register it's touch yet tight enough to make me loose any feeling below the point where it was. This spooked me enough to keep my voice within.

'Dad lied! There are monsters under my bed!'

Setting my childhood misinformation aside, I took a few deep breaths to calm my beating heart and successfully kept my thoughts at bay.

Until for a few seconds when it grew too much and the dam of possibilities flew out where I kept the three of them that made the most sense.

'Is it a sleep paralysis demon, an actual demon or am I being pranked?', first two might have made me cry but for the last one someone else surely would.

I knew that while it was fine to theorize but in order to know definitively I had to do take some action.

"One way to find out", saying so I put the hands on both my sides and steadily pulled up in order to drag the legs back.

Only to to be dragged right towards the floor.

'What a shame', with that thought in my head I closed my eyes and quickly wrapped my arms around my head while preparing for the impact of fall as seconds trickled by but no impact came and made me confusedly open my eyes.

Flapping around my legs made me realise that my cramps were gone but the lack of my room and the fast moving winds forced me to look up.

'Have I fallen unconscious into-'

All my thoughts were gone and all the noise disappeared as my eyes grew wide and my jaws slackened loose as I had the unending urge to voice what I was feeling at the moment.

It became difficult to make use of any single word to describe the magnitude of what I was seeing.

So instead I made way with two.

"Damn majestic," I breathed out in relief as my jaws were still slack in awe.

Over my head there was no ceiling, but rather an open black sky which indicated no presence of my room or any of my items which gave me relief. The black sky itself was filled with a myriad of both slow passing comets and many fast paced meteors. While some were blue, others were yellow and few were green all with the exception of a single red one that moved far slower than the rest.

This unexpected sight became so mesmerizing that I had to put effort to my pry my eyes away and look down below me in order to remind myself that I was still falling.

That was a mistake, as it was not any less with it's intensity.

Below me a brilliant pearl blue ocean stretched as far as the sky went with no visible landmasses and a few moving white blurs that when I got close enough turned out to be clouds.

At which my lips curved up to a smile as I decided this be what I spoke for the very last time before my fall ended.

"Breathtaking"

Although I did not allow myself to speak whistling was still a fair game so as I did it in the tune of rowing your boat and continued doing it.

In the middle of the whistle that I had turned around over to the sky and again noticed the red comet that I would have believed to something otherwise if not for the increase in it's size from before.

Below a small green dot had became visible to me that upon getting closer became apparent as land that was directly below me.

'Of course I needed something to fall on', rolling my eyes at the ground I was going to splatter on with annoyance.

Previously I had an idea of getting into a diver's position before falling into the sea but it doesn't seem appropriate anymore.

Still I decided to do it anyway.
