It has been a few long months since my parents died
Grandpa and Grandma were getting too old to manage everything alone so Grandpa said he called someone for housekeeping and that person is coming today at 5 pm
"Ashwin can you pass me that"
"Yes" Grandma is preparing food for the housekeeper
and I am helping her with that
"Is there anything particular I should make for her or if she is allergic to anything?" Grandma asked Grandpa "No, no she is fine with anything she said" Nodding to Grandpa's answer Grandma started cooking
"Grandpa we don't need anyone I, can take care of everything" I grumbled, taking a seat at the dining table
"Aswin we have already talked about this you are a kid and we are getting old too," Grandpa says, but we never called for anyone in my previous life that just proves that we don't need anyone and I am also an adult now, we can manage by ourselves
"We don't need someone to replace Mom and Dad" Yes this feels like a replacement to me than anything
"I get what you are saying Ashwin but believe me this is not like that I hope you understand this we don't know how long we will be with you" Grandma paused for a second when Grandpa talked about them leaving me and he was right, Grandpa will die of natural cause when I become 7 after that the burden on grandma will be too much making a sick and bedridden thinking about that time it should be..... fine to have someone helping grandma
"What if she is not a good person and steals our things" This is the most concerning part
"Haha you don't have to worry about that she is someone I have known for a long time now she works with me and my team in medical research," he said with a light laugh
But a person working with Grandpa huh, "won't they be really busy then, is it okay for her to be a housekeeper" Grandma asked Certainly why would someone like her agree to become a housekeeper there's nothing for her to gain from it, suspicious
"She will be busy, yes, but she agreed to come and help when she can" Grandpa assured her
Ding-dong
The bell rang and Grandma walked out of the kitchen to check the door I also got up and walked behind her to see who it was
If she is the one Grandpa asked, then I will see for myself what kind of person she is
***
"Hello, Mrs. Kumar right?" She asked for confirmation "Yes?" And grandma answered nodding "I am Sanvi Malhotra
professor asked me to help you with housekeeping" She introduced herself with a light bow, faintly smiling
She looks to be in her twenties and really good-looking with dark long luscious hair starting straight and getting wavy near the end
Her height is a bit above average, wearing casual clothes with a kind and gentle voice
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
"You must be Ashwin right" Getting down to my height she asked me, and I answered with a light nod
She smiled and got back up to talk to my grandma
She is friendly too friendly for someone she just met, suspicious
***
"Thank you Sanvi for accepting my unreasonable request," Grandpa said bowing a little
"Please don't say that after all, it's you who requested me not just anyone and it's not unreasonable I understand that you are getting old and Ashwin is really young on top of that it's hard to find someone trustworthy to look after and help in housework I am just happy to be of help," She said smiling
It doesn't feel like she is lying she sounds genuine and if Grandpa trust her then it should be fine for her to come
"Thank you for the kind words Sanvi"
"Really thank you"
Grandpa and Grandma thanked her again and she replied with an awkward laugh
"Are you hungry Sanvi I will serve some food" Grandma asked standing up "Thank you Mrs. Kumar" Sanvi replied
"Then when can you start coming" Grandpa asked her
"I can start today or tomorrow professor"
"Then for today you can look around the house and start tomorrow"
"Okay professor"
A few minutes later Grandma came with food and served it
After we finished eating with some light talks
"Anuradha can you show Sanvi around the house" Grandpa asked Grandma
"Yes, come Sanvi"
Nodding Sanvi got up from her chair I also got up and followed them
Grandma was showing Sanvi what was where and all that and I was keeping a close eye on her she glanced at me now and then awkwardly but focused on Grandma's words
"Uh excuse me Mrs.Kumar" she turned around and faced me "Ashwin is there something that matters" she asked me
"No nothing, why you're asking me"
"Uh it's just that it feels like you wanted to talk about something" She made an awkward face and Grandma just looked at us with a question mark
"I just don't trust you"
"Ashwin!" Grandma gestured for me to be quiet
Sanvi was a little surprised by my response and after thinking a little and making an understanding face she got to my height, and opened her mouth
"So what do I have to do for you to trust me"
"Nothing we don't need a housekeeper" Grandma is making an angry face gesturing for me to not speak
"It's fine Mrs Kumar" she assured Grandma but Grandma still making an apologetic face, It was definitely because of me and for what I was saying but some things have to be made clear as soon as possible
"then Ashwin tell me what do I have to do I can't just leave after all, the professor asked me to help in the house"
"Then tell me what you want, you are a scientist right, why would you agree to become a housekeeper" I probably sounded rude and could see Grandma glaring at me from behind Sanvi
"As I said I do not need anything in return I am only here because the professor asked for my help" She is answering everything with 'professor asked for it' that's definitely a convenient answer huh,
"So you will do anything if grandfather asked for it" She was smiling this whole time for a split second she made a sad and somewhat troubled face, then got back to smiling
"Well mostly anything, from the years I have known him as my teacher, I respect him and believe in him he always has a reason to do anything and when he asked for my help I could tell that he was definitely worried about his family, I just couldn't say no to him"
Grandpa was that worried for us, even Sanvi made a sad expression talking about it
If this is how it is then "Fine I can't go against Grandpa's decision, you can help us but I will still keep close eyes on you okay"
"Okay Ashwin" she smiled and got back up
Grandma is looking really angry I'm definitely gonna get a nice lecture after this sigh
