Chapter 34
The light from the fire of my sword reached out into the cavern, illuminating hundreds of jumping corpses, tumbling out of their coffins, and floating towards me and the entrance. In shock, I looked to the nearest corpse, pooh bear, and watched him and a few dozen of his friends floating towards me. Watching the corpses coming at me with extreme speed, I readied my sword, and waited for them to approach me. Finally within reach, I slashed down at the stiff corpse, cutting him in half and then threw a straight kick to his nearest friend, sending him flying hundreds of feet into the cavern wall. It was then that I noticed the other corpses veering around me and going straight into a break in the cavern wall. Looking at the split in half pooh bear, I couldn’t help but speak, “Uh, sorry about that, you kind of snuck up on me there.” Picking up the two halves of the corpse, I connected the two pieces and using the corpse’s suite, tied him together very half-hazardly. Once the pieces were put back, and tied together, pooh came back to life, putting his arms out for balance and started floating again, following the other corpses. ”Should I stop them?”
Thinking to myself for a moment, I heard a raspy deep voice coming from above me, “Those who were parasites in life often find themselves repeating their actions in death. There is nothing to be done.” Jumping in surprise, I held my light towards the top of the cave, and was shocked when I found a stone face looking back at me. “Who are you?” I asked, but it did not seem very interested in talking to me as it stayed silent. Unsure of what I should do, I slipped on my armor and necklace as I decided to follow the hopping corpses. Following the group at night was actually fairly difficult, as when they came out of the cave, they immediately began floating a few feet above the ground, and zipped forward in different directions. Following the lagging pooh bear, we made our way into a fairly large town where he began wandering towards the residential areas. Following him in the roads and sidewalks of the residential areas, he finally seemed to find what he was looking for and rocketed towards a massive mansion.
Once pooh bear was at the mansion, he began scratching at the windows and doors until a butler answered the door. The man looked around the area, finding nothing, and returned inside the mansion. What the man didn’t see, was as soon as he answered the door, the corpse began breathing hard, as if searching for a smell, and once he found the smell of the man, let him return. Wondering what he was looking for, a different man, hearing the scratching on the balcony door, opened the door and walked out. This man looked extremely skinny, and very old. Walking towards the end of the balcony, I noticed pooh flashing to the middle of the balcony, and leaving behind his red book, covered in blood. Turning around, the man walked back, and noticing the red book, began to shake, I could smell the fear coming from him from here. Picking up the booklet, he began examining it, and after opening it, began to scream and shout something in Chinese. Seeing the man shouting with his mouth wide open I couldn’t help but feel I had seen this man before. He oddly resembled a toad.
Within a few moments of his screaming, I was surprised to see the whole place lighting up like a Vegas horse track. After the whole place went on high alert, dozens of men came rushing out of the house in black tactical gear, scanning the whole area with dogs and rifles. The whole time I could see the corpse waiting and looking for an opportunity. This finally came when the search was over, and the men went back in. The corpse was about to strike the last military man until he heard a voice coming from the house from the man’s commander. “Hurry up and get in here!” As soon as the words were out of his mouth the corpse shook in excitement, and tore through the lagging military man, slipping into the house.
Within seconds I began to hear the muffled bangs of gunfire and feel the tremors on the ground from grenades. The mansion turned into a slaughterhouse as the screams and shouting of the people inside began to grow quieter. Finally silent, the garage exploded as a black SUV rammed through the door, saving seconds in its destruction. The SUV must have been armored as it didn’t sustain any damage ramming through the door and front gate, leaving the area behind, as the gun fire began picking up once more. After another few seconds I finally saw the corpse still tied together with its suite, and now full of holes smelling the air and rushing out in hot pursuit. Thinking or a moment, I decided to call it a night as I had seen what I was curious about. Humanity had more people than it knew what to do with, so I wasn’t too concerned with the death of a few. If I could, I would drastically reduce their numbers and let them regain a balance with the world. I already knew what would happen if the world stayed overpopulated.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
Walking back to the cave, I laid back down and slept again. Waking in the morning, I looked around with my sword, seeing a few new caskets lined around the lake. Opening the strange gold and granite coffin I was face to face with the toad man from before. “Damn, I guess he didn’t get away.” Looking back to the stone face on the wall I began to speak again, not expecting an answer. “So, is this all you’re doing?” Putting the lid back on the coffin I heard that same voice I heard last night. “Most monstrous beings are my doing, you feel very familiar. Who are you? A God? A Titan?” Spinning around and facing the stone, I spoke, “A titan. Well, kind of, it’s hard to explain.” After a moment of silence I heard the voice return, speaking once more, “I see. If you are a titan, then you are a new one, or I would know you. I am typhus, and at least partially, I am your brother.”
Hearing the name that Cerberus’s descendant had given me to rescue, I was unsure of how to react. “I thought he was in the other world.” Thinking for a moment, it hit me like a brick, “the scythe!” My weapon belonged to Cronus, the titan of time! “I went back in time!” looking above me I spoke to the old titan once again, “Typhon, I have heard of you, I am your part brother/uncle/nephew, and grandnephew.” “Like I said before, it’s complicated, but the main thing, is that I made a promise to rescue you from this place!” Hearing my words, the mountain began to shake and tremble in excitement. Waiting for it to subside the voice returned once more, “I cannot continue to speak, my energy is too low. I send my children out as often as possible to bring back enough energy to free myself.” “If you wish to free me of this place, then help them, I will give you the ability to command them and will tell you more when I have the energy to speak.” Not able to speak further, the face faded back into the mountainside, bringing an eerie silence to the area.
Walking to my fire area, I sat down to think of what to do. “I wonder how long he has been doing this, and how long until he could find a way out. I know from my study that he had fought with Zeus and was buried after he lost, much like atlas. “Am I going to have to destroy the cities of people here?” “I may hate humanity, and would gladly kill all the corrupt leaders, but I don’t know how I feel about mass murdering cities full of people.” “Maybe I should take a look around the area first before I decide.” Making up my mind I began walking out of the cave once the sun began to rise. Crawling out from the cavern, I began my march towards the nearest city.
Finally out of the cavern, I couldn’t help but yawn and stretch as I heard a scream right next to my ear. Startled, I turned my head to see a solitary teenage male standing next to his tent and sleeping bag, while trembling and looking in my direction in fear, “Damn, he saw me.” Turning towards the young teen I reached out, and pinched him with my fingers, picking him off the fourth floor of the abandoned, windowless building. “AAAAAHHHHH!!! Someone help me!!” Irritated, I began to think of what I should do with the teenager, until he began bargaining for his life. “Great god! I will be your most fervent follower!” ”Please just don’t eat me!” Getting a closer look at the teen, he did not look Chinese and was speaking fluent English. With my curiosity peaked, I had to ask, “Who are you, and why are you here?” Holding onto his ears as if they were about to explode, the teen replied, I heard the rumors about this place hiding something supernatural, and after seeing you on the news, and the other monster in India, I wanted to know if it was true.” “Besides, I had nowhere else to go, being a foreigner here, I’m not well treated. They put up signs on the hotels and stores in all the cities. No blacks, no foreigners, no dogs.”
