Chapter 12: Giant Cyclops - Dungeon level 4

To say I was still sleepy from the previous night would be an understatement. My hair was a mess and my face was unwashed. Accel was beside me with a pillow over his face. Hopefully he is not dead.

I went to the showers to bathe myself and the water was so cold it felt like freezing temperatures. As the water came on, I just jumped about for a few moments before acclimating to it. Cold showers in the morning was just perfect for waking up. I heard that there are certain benefits for both cold and hot showers. To each his own. I choose cold showers because of the hot weather in the dungeon and I wanted to stay awake in the morning. I went to the kitchen to get my daily cup of joe. The machine was simple to operate.

You just had to put in your coffee pod inside the machine and some water, and poof you get your perfect cup of joe every time. It is magical and something that I did not have in my previous life. Such was the interesting facts and things about this dungeon, they had inventions that eluded the imagination of the people back in my original life. The technology here was more advanced, as much as I can tell that is.

Accel woke up barely five minutes later. He was basically sleepwalking the moment he got up, I wondered what he did the night before to get him so tired today. Anyways he looked like an entirely different person after a nice cold shower. Everyone does actually. His comatose state was now brimming with so much energy the whole room was filled with light.

We joked around and discussed our strategy for the next boss. Apparently we should teleport our way there as the journey there is not going to be pleasant at all. I disagreed and said that we should fight our way through the hordes of cyclops that come our way so that we can level up in time for the boss. Accel vehemently declined, while saying that it is a death sentence if we do that. Finally I decided that we should just go half the journey, an equal compromise so that both of us got our way. Apparently, Accel was not so happy about that.

We excited the hotel for the very last time and we cleared the exits of the town of Cabina which was heavily guarded at the time. Then I start my teleportation spell again, this time to the midway of the journey to the boss’s dungeon. We arrive at a wide open space with ashen grey flooring confused due to the side effects of the teleportation. We were far from alone however, roughly one hundred medium sized cyclops were staring at us. And we got to battle immediately.

I casted a wide range Dark Fire Prison on the entire area. Of course we were outside of that area that we entrapped. Then I chant another incantation to close the Dark Fire Prison as it reduces its range until it squashes and burns every cyclops in its wake. The infinite dark fire burns the cyclops and remains there even after they die. They were absolutely potent.

I grin at the sight of my victory. Just one spell was all it took to secure it. But the upcoming boss battle will be anything but. I ready all my potions and spells as we step into the outskirts of the dungeon where the boss lies. There, the boss lies at the very end of the dungeon, awaiting to feast on us.

The one-eyed giant cyclops shoots a huge laser beam out of its eyes. “Get away!” Edward instructed.

Boom! The area we just escaped from exploded at sight. Leaving behind pieces of concrete and leftover ashes. The scenes were like something out of a war zone. This is war.

I cast Dark Fire Prison on the wild beast and closed it in immediately. The one-eyed cyclops pays it no heed as it continues to fire laser beams from its eyes as it burns from dark flames. The dark flames will burn forever on the one-eyed giant cyclops but it seems to be largely unaffected. Its skin was burning and dropping from its arms but it did not scream. In fact it would calmly continue its relentless attacks and walk onwards towards us.

Each step increases its accuracy. We could not keep going backwards, so I cast an Ice Wall and freeze its feet to stop it in its tracks. But the laser beam pierced through everything and once again it was free. The legs which were once frozen was now melted and the Ice Wall was horribly deformed. The one-eyed cyclops giant smashes through the Ice Wall effortlessly.

At this point I wasn’t sure what else to do. But I turned to Accel beside me, where he was already preparing his ultimate skill - consecutive slashes. He leapt forward and unto the eye of the giant cyclops and begin slashing it. The cyclops backtracks backwards as it loses its eyesight and falls on the ground. Thud! I use Dark Fire Prison again to secure it in place. Now it cannot escape. Accel was also in the prison as he continues to deal heavy physical attacks on the one eyed giant cyclops.

The one eyed giant cyclops health dropped to below ten percent. I continued to strike with Dark Fire Rain while using Ice Freeze to make it stay in its tracks. It was highly effective. Then as it approached one percent health, the one-eyed giant cyclops let out a scream. Ten other medium size cyclops appears in the perimeter.

“What a headache!” I shouted out to Accel, who was too busy to hear me. “Finish him off while I hold off the others!” I screamed to him.

Accel nodded and prepared the final finishing blow to the giant cyclops. Then, the cyclops fire a death ray at Accel, who luckily deflected the shot using his sword. But the sword melted as a consequence and he is left without a weapon, in a dark fire prison with the cyclops. I tried holding off the remaining medium sized cyclops while Accel dodged the laser beams of the faltering giant cyclops.

It was quite a scene as I use my widest ever coverage of Dark Fire Rain on the entirety of the dungeon we were fighting in. No one was spared, not even me. The embers of the dark flames of infinity burn on me and Accel. I did not know how to put them out. Instead I took off my magical cape while Accel took off his armour. Then I tried casting Rejuvenation on the items, luckily it was effective.

Looking back at the one-eyed giant cyclops, it was still standing with one percent health points. It was truly a miracle it still did not die even with Accel’s continued attacks. I cast a final Dark Fire Rain on the giant cyclops. It ceased to exist with painful screaming.

We were victorious! I hi-fived Accel who congratulated me on a job well done. We would need newer forms of magic in the upper floors now. Yup, level five will be no joke from now on. If even the one-eye giant cyclops was that strong, who knows how strong will the next boss be.

I shiver at the thought of having to fight a stronger boss battle. I told Accel that come what may, I will stand my ground and do my best to win every fight from now on. Accel nodded and said that he will back me up no matter where we decide to go to from now on.

I look back at the destroyed battlefield. It was truly an awful scene as there was blood everywhere and pieces of flesh on the ground. No one was spared in this fight. Truly no one came from it unscathed. This was the reality of battling in the dungeon. Even the greatest of magic spells cannot render the opponent to die immediately. No, one can only hope that their spells will do damage to the enemy. Like how only dark magic would damage the giant cyclops. We need to refine our methods to find more magic elements to fight.

I promised Accel that I would upgrade myself by learning new elements of magic. We held hands as we prayed for the monsters that died in the battle. Though they were our enemies, it was only because of the dungeon did we decide to face off against them. We cried as we realise how close we came to death. Accel told me how worried he was when he saw me with the dark fire flames on my body. Luckily it was nothing but a small matter in the grand scheme of things. But now we know even dark magic has its weaknesses. Something new must replace it. We step into the door portal once more. Level five here we come!
