Five days have passed since then. I kept track by counting how many times they dropped off food, only dropping off food once every twenty-four hours. The food smelled horrible like rotting flesh, or it had no smell like the bread. They rarely ever gave out any veggies or fruit. Nonetheless, I was hungry. So I grabbed what I was able to eat, even if it was gross.
I took a bit into a piece of bread and spat it out, “This tastes like dirt! Who can eat such shit!” I toss the bread to the other side of the room. My stomach rumbled, “I shouldn’t have done that.” I tried reaching for the bread, but I was too weak to pick it up. “Sigh… I’m hungry. Why? Why did this happen to me?” I curl up into a ball and go to sleep.
I often sleep to conserve the little energy I had left. I slept some more again since I had nothing better to do. “I’m too weak to get up. I’m too weak to eat. I can’t find an exit. Fuck. Fuck, this sucks. I-” My thoughts are interrupted by a yawn, my arms stretching out. “I should get some sleep. I’ll figure out a way to escape tomorrow. Maybe they’ll have some better food.” I rub against the cold hard ground. “I miss beds and the… the… fluffy bed thingies. But on the plus side, it’s cool.”
Some time has passed before I felt someone holding me in their arms. I was partially awake, so everything was a little fuzzy. I heard a boy’s voice saying, “Open your mouth.”
I listen to the voice and open my mouth. I feel something warm flow down my throat. “Is this… chicken… soup?" I yawn."About time someone showed up. Are you going to probe me?” I partially open my eyes to see a white-haired boy with dark silver eyes. “Who are you?”
The boy looks like he is in his early teens. He is holding a wooden spoon in his left hand and holding me up with his right hand. I have never felt as humiliated this past week as in my entire previous life; if I could remember it. I wanted to fight back, but I also wanted to eat. And since I didn’t have to use as much energy compared to when I had to, it seemed like the better option. I open my mouth again to signal for more food.
“Still hungry?” The boy asks in a soothing voice. He scoops up another spoonful of soup and places it in my mouth. I chew on a piece of chicken for a bit before swallowing. “My name’s Silver.” The boy said, continuing to feed me until there isn’t any more food left in the bowl. I slothfully reach for his shirt. My arms, shaking, tug on his warm shirt that gives me goosebumps. He feels my feeble attempts of a tug and looks down with his stormy grey eyes.
He looks in amazement as I submissively stare at him, wondering what he is going to do to me. The silver-eyed boy said, “Talking in riddles I see, with a voice singing calm as the wind.” The boy gently laid me down as he continued his weird song? “You used to frolic with glee, and now you’re stuck in a bind.” I yawn and drift to sleep as he continues. “You lie in the sun, as cute as a button. Leaving none the wiser, you devious little tiger.”
He looks down to see me curled up in a ball in a deep slumber. He whispers, “Sweet dreams breath,” while patting my head.

I get up the next day when I hear my cage opening. The thrill of its opening excited me because it meant Silver is here. “Hello. I’m back.” He said.
I wanted to jump into his arms but am too weak to. Silver was carrying something this time which piqued my interest. Chirping and singing for him to come near me since I really wanted to see what he was holding. It smells good.
“Hold your horse. I’m coming.” Silver made his way towards me, placing the items by the wall next to me. He then sits down and scoots me into his lap like you would do to a child when reading a bedtime story. “Did you miss me?”
“So if those people couldn’t understand me, then he can’t. Should I do the first thing my body tells me to do? It’s worked so far... Fuck it.” I rub my head against his shirt.
“I missed you too.” Silver said, patting my head.
I point at the box, intrigued. A pleasant smell came from it.
“You want to know what’s inside?” He asked me.
I shake my head with enthusiasm, now trying to grab at it.
“Alright.” He pulls out seven books, a wooden toy, and best of all, two loaves of freshly baked bread.
I reach out, my mouth drooling, wanting it.
“Here you go.” Silver sang, handing the loaf of bread to me and keeping one to himself.
I took a bite into the bread but wasn’t able to sink my teeth into it. I get angry as there is this fresh piece of food, but it overpowered me. I viciously bite into it like I was killing something but to no avail; my greatest foe, the bread crust. As I tried to pierce into the bread, I felt something wet flowing down my legs. I got embarrassed as I pee? However, the liquid felt more like saliva from my mouth than pee.
Silver notices and pulls out a cloth from his box and places it around my lap. “It’s alright.” He wipes away the saliva that was on me.
“How embarrassing...” As he was cleaning me, something felt off. ”Something’s missing, but the bread…” I didn’t take time to figure out what because I wanted to eat this bread and forget about what just happened.
Silver pats my head, and I look up, seeing that he has already finished his bread. He wraps his arms around me and tears the loaf in half. Instinctually, I sunk my teeth into his hand and tore the flesh off, which I swallowed. “No… ew! I’m sorry! Don’t leave me!” I started crying and licking the area I had attacked.
“It’s alright,” Silver said in a calm voice, rubbing my head. Silver then placed his other around the injured one, which started glowing. When he removed his hand, the hole disappeared. “I guess I should’ve let you do it on your own,” He laughs.
I tried handing him my half, but he kept saying no. So I scarf it down, leaving the crust out since I couldn’t chew my way through it. Afterward, he read me some books before he had to go, leaving some behind. He did this a few more times before he didn’t come back.
I spent the next few days reading the books he left behind nonstop. Surprisingly, I didn’t have to sleep at all during this time. Every time I heard my door make noise, I would turn, waiting in anticipation that Silver would return. But every time he didn’t come. Maybe I had driven him off because I attacked him.
One day I heard the door open, and Silver entered. I was excited since he hadn’t come by in a while, but his stay was short. “Muwhamuwha,” I said to him, reaching out my arms, trying to get him to come here.
He smiles, grabs the books, and leaves. I curl up in the corner. “I’m sorry… please don’t go… don’t leave me alone… I’m sorry… please come back… it’s dark and scary in here. I promise I won’t hurt you… Why?”
