Red, The Dreading Dungeon
Chapter 24: Procrastinate and you'll never... (TBD)

Chapter 24: Procrastinate and you'll never... (TBD)

Red had decided that he would leave the two new minions alone for a bit, having not checked up on his dungeon in a few hours. He turned towards the entrance of the dungeon and phased through the door, finding himself in the beautiful garden ‘room’ once again. The Alchemical Oak towered high above, near blocking the dual yellow and blue moons from sight. It was that shadow that allowed the true beauty of his nighttime garden to be appreciated. Dozens of glowing spheres danced and moved across the air, his fairies having all respawned in the time that it had taken for him to work outside. A rainbow of colors flitted around the oak and the gardens, tending to plants left and right.

He wandered over to one of the flower arrangements and smiled as he leaned down, smelling the flowers and finding that they were delightful. They were in full bloom after being restored by his system, no sign of death or decay around them from the necrosis wave. Beautiful flowers waved in the breeze, fairy lights danced along the gardens, and a terrifying skeletal creature whizzed by his face carrying a small watering can. He jumped back and fell on his gemstone backside as the fairy skeleton flew by.

“What the fuck was that?! Why is it not an intruder?!” He asked angrily to his system as he tried to understand what the hell was going on. The small creature wasn’t glowing like the other fairies, and instead of skin it was just a charred black skeleton that floated on pale wings. He watched it go to a poisonous flower and begin to water it, the flower dripping heavier with toxins once the action was completed.

Description: A fey connected to the elemental forces of death and decay, still alive despite the fact that it is very much a skeleton with wings. This Blight Fairy was originally an ordinary fairy of the Red Dungeon. After serving in the first [Raid] of the dungeon, this fairy was bathed in necromantic energies by the Princess of Poison Lotus during the final stand. With the energies it was bathed in and without the influence of the dungeon guiding its ascension, it became a Blight Fairy. It still enjoys gardening and tending to the flowers around the dungeon despite it being against life itself.

“Wasn’t influenced by the dungeon? System what the hell is it talking about that I didn’t guide its ascension?! I never got the option to do so.” Red frowned as he stood and gave a stretch to try and play off the fact that he had fallen from the shock of the Blight Fairy. He crossed his arms and tapped his foot before the screen finally appeared. The boxes that appeared were not an explanation window, but rather some of his notifications that he had been ignoring since the end of the raid.

Ascension Level Reached!

Please choose the ascension for the following individuals:

Crawdad (8)

Fairies (11)

Slime

Rock Lobster

Warning! Ascension path not chosen! Time until ascension is randomized:

0/2:00:00

“Ah… So it’s that I didn’t look at my notifications after the raid. Thus some of my things transformed into less than desirable creatures.” Red groaned as he rubbed his cheeks and thought about it for a long moment. He had been so focused on helping Lotus and avoiding his troubles that he had caused the troubles to mount against him. He took a deep breath and counted to ten as he calmed himself down.

“Alright. No sense in getting angry with myself for a mistake that has already been made. If we all cried over spilled milk then the cereal would never get eaten.“ He sighed as he rubbed his chin and looked at the notifications, thinking about it for a long moment as she considered it. “System, please make a pop-up showing all the creatures that ascended with the randomized system.” He smiled, figuring that he was getting the hang of the system.

Ascended Individuals:

Gemcraw (3)

Rock Lobster (5)

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

Blight Fairy (5)

Witchling (2)

Seasonal Fey (2)

Banshee (2)

Slippery Slime

Metal Lobster

Red looked over the list and noted the three things that would not fit on his current floor. While the crawdads and lobsters were a given, not to mention the slippery slime was probably fine. The Banshee, Blight Fairy, and Witchling were far too evil for what he would prefer to keep as a very neutral floor. The three of them were too boundless compared to the theme he had working. He did not have a big demonic presence on the floor, but they would no doubt side with demons sooner than they would their fey brethren.

“Alright, so I guess this means that they are going to be heading downstairs once the dungeon is allowed a second floor.” He said with a frown as he knew there was nothing he could do at the moment other than allowing them to continue living. It seemed that they weren’t a danger to the other individuals on the floor, so it was a relief to know that. He walked along the gardens and began to sort through the notifications that he had left. He wanted to make sure that there wouldn’t be any more surprises in store for himself.

Dungeon Notoriety:

This dungeon has performed above and beyond those of similar age and skill level. When it is discovered word will spread faster.

Five Rooms Achieved!

You have gained several open slots in the shop.

A sixth room designated as the boss room is now available.

Floor 1: (1) Special Room, (5) Ordinary Room(s)

Dungeon Leadership Assessment:

After the performance during the undead raid, three leadership individuals were noted to have the potential to be Boss monsters. Assessment notification to follow upon full respawning of all individuals.

Assessment:

Lotus, Princess of Poison;

Intelligence: High

Physical Might: Low

Magical Might: High

Leadership: Low

Agility: High

Dramatics: High

Assessment: High potential for boss status, capable of learning and adapting to battle tactics. Single battle without associates due to low leadership skills. Room for improvement.

Snips, Brave Warrior;

Intelligence: Low

Physical Might: High

Magical Might: Low

Leadership: High

Agility: Low

Dramatics: High.

Assessment: Potential for boss status, capable of leadership with multiple units working in tandem. Low intelligence mixed with low speed and battle variety make it an uninteresting boss fight that can be predictable if performed multiple times.

Arabella, Mage Captain;

Intelligence: High

Physical Might: Low

Magical Might: Medium

Leadership: Medium

Agility: Medium

Dramatics: Low

Assessment: Low potential for boss status. The individual has potential for growth but is too uncertain with capabilities at present. Boss fight would entail strategic military maneuvers with multiple units acting in accordance to previously planned out patterns. High potential for mini-boss status when it becomes available to the dungeon.

“Alright, it looks like things are starting to align for my expansion to a second floor dungeon in the near future. I just need to rearrange my rooms completely, fill three more rooms with the stuff that a dungeon would use. You know, maybe I will have the rest of the rooms be demonic and angelic.” He muttered as he pulled up the map, seeing the twisting shape beyond the garden that was his dungeon. The current arrangement was bathroom, bedroom, and then three empty rooms that didn’t have anything in them.

“That’s it! That’ll be the perfect way to have the entire floor work.” He said with delight as he began to plan out what each room was going to be in his head. He would just need to move Addison out of the old room and into the new shack that was being built for her. He floated over to the shack and smiled as he found Ivy sitting on the porch and taking deep breaths as she fanned herself.

“‘Ey Boss, that was quite the work order you gave me,” She said with a chuckle as she looked at him, dabbing her brow with a dirty grease cloth that she had with her bag. She watched the crystalline representation of the dungeon walk up and sit down next to her on the porch. She was trying to get some rest and recuperation now that the new rooms were made and the shack was constructed.

“Yeah, sorry about that. I needed to burn a lot of mana and the best way to do it was make a bunch of new structures.” He said with a shrug as he summoned her up a lemonade like he had done with Herc. He figured that it was the least he could do for the girl who had worked her fingers to the bone. “But I am going to give you something to make future orders easier. You can have up to five fey assigned to your construction group, and since you’re the foreman that means you get the responsibility of choosing who you want on your team.” He said with a smile as he made sure he made the gift clear.

Ivy blinked as she saw a window appear in front of her, it seemed rather sudden but at the same time perfect. A window appeared and she was given a prompt about what Red was offering to her in this freedom.

Quest:

You have the title of Foreman, and have been given a quest based on that title.

Details: You must travel around the Red dungeon and select five individuals to be workers. These workers must be of the highest quality, as your dungeon deserves nothing but the best of the best.

Workers: 0/5

“Ooo! Thank you, Boss! I’ll get right on this!” She said with a smile as she jumped up and retrieved her lemonade before beginning to march her way out into the dungeon to find her perfect crew.

“Didn’t mean to make a quest, but that’s fine. As long as it helps take off some of the workload.” Red said with a smile that quickly faded once the construction fairy was out of sight. He turned towards the rest of the dungeon, and knew that he had a much more important person that needed to be talked to. He closed his eyes and appeared in the bedroom, where Addison was lounging on the bed, clearly waiting for something of note to happen.
