Chapter 43: Exerting Dominance

Chapter 43: Exerting Dominance

Kai had arrived at his camp after finding several corpses of Wolfen and Scarlet Ant Primates dead because of his traps.

Kai's face was blank while walking.

"Ahhh, what a pain in the ass."

Kai looked at all the broken traps and sighed. His face was blank but all the negative emotions were seeping out of him like his lid had just been released.

"Was I reincarnated just to live in the forest and fix my own traps?"

Moments later, there was a single howl; then there were more howls.

"I guess I have to move, the Wolfen have worked together to flush me out."

Kai stood up and vanished from his spot, he instantly appeared over twenty five meters to the right and took all of his items from the camp into his pendant.

"I may be able to fight them off but I don't have infinite stamina, this isn't a game."

Kai's eyes scanned around the area before running off in a direction.

Kai ran at max speed obvious to the fact that wind was gathering around him and the dust followed him as his feet landed on the floor.

A few Wolfen tried to block his way by launching horizontal tornadoes at Kai but were dodged as Kai stepped to the side and kept his speed.

Whenever he passed by Wolfen, the Wolfen would fly with the amount of wind gathering around Kai. He killed at least two or three with the impact, but he couldn't afford to stay here to kill them any longer.

"The entire edges of the outskirts are hunting for me, guess I should go deeper."

A couple of minutes later, Kai managed to get away from the Wolfen that were surrounding his camp and established a new camp much further away.

"It can't be helped that this place is definitely more dangerous but the Wolfen definitely wouldn't know I'm here, I'll have more trouble hunting my daily quota though."

Kai set up new traps and made traps that didn't need to be checked daily like a pitfall with spikes before surveying the surrounding areas.

"So the most numerous in this area are the Scarlet Ant Primates, they number more than Wolfen and have stronger bodies but they have no long range magic attacks."

Kai was carving on a nearby tree using an icicle.

"Iron Plate Gorillas are also numerous but the most fighter-class beasts here are Shadow Panthers."

Kai dropped the icicle into the floor and stepped back twice. On the tree was a magic circle, Kai bit his thumb and placed it inside the center of the circle.

"[Activate, Cross]."

The magic circle glowed and created several patterns around Kai's surroundings.

"Runes are really useful; this trap should instantly kill any mob-class and kill fighter-class after a few seconds."

The glowing translucent pattern in Kai's area was shaped in an 'X' and was continuously rotating. It was a trap that used runes of wind and water to slice enemies at a rapid pace. It glowed because it only used elements from the surroundings and was made of magic.

"I have to recharge it every half a day though."

Kai did a monologue as he looked at the rune and sighed.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

"This is only my last line of defense anyway."

Kai breathed in and closed his eyes.

"[Soul Call]."

Kai activated his soul-searching technique to find nearby prey, right now; he could search five kilometers at most.

"As expected, there are only a few mob-class beasts within five kilometers but there are a lot of small bugs confusing me... annoying. I'll have to learn how to filter this soon."

Other than to hunt for hidden enemies, Kai hadn't used this technique much.

"I guess I'll head for the biggest soul I sense."

Kai looked around him then ran towards a direction.

Using my soul makes me feel uneasy, it's like a tingly feeling spreading through my heart.

"This is annoying."

Kai said as he knocked on his chest a bit. Kai kept his [Soul Call] on as he walked but little did he notice his deteriorating condition.

After Kai had arrived near some Iron Plate Gorillas, Kai immediately attacked.

"Superbia, lighten!"

Kai lifted Superbia as he jumped above one of the Iron Plate Gorillas.

"Heaviness!"

Kai's sword slammed down but was blocked by the Iron Plate Gorilla's arms that were covered in iron plates.

"Big mistake, fool."

The iron sand that was spinning around the sword spun faster and faster as the Iron Plate Gorilla gave a roar as his arms were separated.

Kai aimed for the spot in the middle of its chest and stabbed through it.

"Tch. It's stuck inside its iron bones."

Kai released Superbia and manifested two [Ice Blades] to block two Iron Plate Gorillas aiming for the same spot.

"You two can't compare with me in physical prowess."

Kai gave a roar and knocked back the arms of the two Iron Plate Gorillas.

"[Blizzard]."

Kai spun once with his blades but all of a sudden, cyan wind spun around Kai until it spread towards the Iron Plate Gorillas.

The floor beneath Kai turned to ice and everything turned foggy from snow.

The cyan wind cut apart the defense of the Iron Plate Gorillas due to its omnidirectional attack and Kai used the opportunity to stab through one of them.

A single [Ice Blade] wasn't enough to pierce through the Iron Plate Gorilla's chest and Kai was forced to stab through chest with his other sword as well.

The Iron Plate Gorilla roared at Kai's face.

"Freeze."

The Iron Plate Gorilla's eyes turned white and its chest was starting to freeze.

Just as Kai was about to make more weapons, he was hit with a giant iron fist.

Kai rolled a few times on the floor and used small blades of ice to stop his momentum.

"Ugh..."

Kai stood up and faced the other Iron Plate Gorilla that was riddled with frozen wounds from Kai's [Blizzard].

 "You bastard, I'll kill you."

Kai created a larger [Ice Blade] and used both of his hand to hold onto it.

"Die."

Kai's voice was cold as he stabbed towards the Iron Plate Gorilla's chest. It was about to block Kai's attack but suddenly, blood spurted out of each of his wounds and its actions were delayed.

Kai's sword stabbed through and the sword broke inside its body.

The same thing that happened to the first Iron Plate Gorilla happened to this one as well; the body starting from the chest froze and spread.

Soon, Kai used [Soul Call] to find more prey and left the scene.

Soon, the area was in chaos; Kai was on a hunting spree and killed nearly every monster in the area. He knew that more monsters would show up and hence didn't act reserved. Though that's not how he would normally think, he'd definitely try and preserve their numbers as much as he can.

If someone were to walk through this area, they'll find dozens and dozens of frozen and corrupted bodies.

"I haven't killed enough but that's nearly every beast in the area, if I were to kill anymore; I would have to go further into the forest for more prey."

Kai was currently roasting a whole boar inside his camp.

He was crafting runes on pieces of wood while waiting and would constantly check on the meat.

His face was kept blank but he constantly let out groans of frustration as the pieces of wood did multiple things like burning, breaking into pieces, and exploding.

He hid the wood pieces in his pendant and all over his body.

After he had at least a fifty-fifty success rate with wood, he switched over to stone pieces. In the middle of carving; the meat was cooked and Kai took a piece of the meat and used a stick to skewer it.

Just as he was about to bite into the meat, a familiar presence alerted him from behind.

Kai immediately dropped the piece of meat and turned around, what met him was the sight of a small figure; the Inferno Tiger cub.

"It's you..."

Kai furrowed his brows and looked around, he used [Soul Call] to its current maximum output but found no sign of the Inferno Tiger, Avel.

After he scanned the area, he breathed a sigh of relief and began stroking the head of the cub.

"Your mother is scary, don't ever let her find out that you're here; she'll cook me alive."

He used his other hand and raised its index finger and pointed several times in the air as if he was pointing at something.

The cub nodded up and down exaggeratedly as if to signify that it understood. After several more warnings, Kai nodded his head while saying 'good, good'."

Kai's face was blank the entire time and his voice was monotone, the cub didn't seem to like it much but kept on playing with Kai.

After an hour or two, the cub kept stepping on Kai and roaring lowly.

"Don't tell me that it's saying that it's the boss..."

Kai pinched his nose bridge.

"Guess I'll have to show him who owns this place."
