Chapter 185: A Calm but Overwhelming Rage (1)

Out of all the participating members of Memento Mori, Arata, Date, Kei, and Yoko, only Date had gotten off lightest because he was in the stage at the same time as Yoko. Arata was event sent into a coma because he refused to yield but with Kai's intervention, he would wake up sometime tomorrow.

The participants on the stage fought each other normally but whenever a member of Yoko's group appears, they would stop their battles and immediately target them. But, their goal was achieved, they managed to show that each and every transfer student was way beyond that of a normal student.

Each of them managed to take out a little less than fifty even when surrounded. There was even a giant platform covering a big chunk of the stage because of Arata.

As of now, there were only a little more than twenty participants left onstage but the numbers that still had to enter were still a bit more than a hundred.

Anne had promised him he could participate but only if he could convince her.

"So, still not giving me a reason? I've already readied your entry near the last."

Kai stayed quiet. Yoko was already sent to the infirmary along with the other members but with Kai's help, they were already mostly healed. Erina and Amelia had also gone to watch over them while Sachiko stayed because of Iori who had still yet to enter.

Naturally, Erina was furious at what Adam did to Yoko and the others while Amelia maintained an expressionless face but her eyes when she looked at the stage were cold but when they saw Kai's face after Yoko was humiliated, they calmed down by several degrees.

Being with Kai for so long, they could mostly tell his emotions from the few expressions he had on his face. Right now, even they felt chills from looking at Kai's insanely calm face. It was like a calm before the storm but this storm was many times more dangerous than a normal one.

"Don't you want to see my true power?"

When he said that, Anne's calm eyes suddenly narrowed.

"..."

It was true that the entire time he's been courting her, she kept on trying to gauge his power but she had never succeeded once. That's why she had two hypotheses formed. One, Kai awakened his innate ability which interfered with Anne's senses or two, Kai's real power was above even hers.

Slightly biting her lip, Anne gave him the ticket in her hands.

"Just give it to the one of the organizers when it's your turn. You're twentieth to the last, the person originally taking that place was already compensated. Well, if you hadn't managed to convince me, I would've just thrown out the ticket anyway."

Although Kai didn't want to talk, he still had a goal, he couldn't forget it just because of anger.

"Thank you, Anne. You aren't quite honest with yourself, are you?"

Saying so, he ruffled her hair. Who knows if it was because she got used to it or if it was because she sensed Kai's forced actions but she didn't try to resist. Of course, Kai only did it for a little more than two seconds because they were in public. Even if she didn't stop him, he had to stop himself.

After getting the ticket, Kai turned his attention back to the stage.

Perhaps because of Adam's display of humiliating Yoko's group but the fights thereafter felt lackluster. There were even some people in the crowd who got up and left. Not just the crowd though, even the principal lost interest. Although he still looked at the battles, he wasn't as piqued as when Yoko had fought.

Although it was true that Adam hadn't broken any rules, it was still quite an eyesore to see. The principal wasn't one to promote such behavior but he could do little to Adam who is a potential S-class.

Soaring Eagle Continent, Central

Although Fate did summon a huge load of skeletons, bones were easier to get rid of than flesh. Perhaps only about ten percent of the buildings were destroyed and about a fourth were partially damaged but if that was it, maybe reconstruction would finish by the next year.

The king of the country had a mountain of paperwork on his desk as he kept on signing those he glanced over. The secretary beside him had already went through the papers once so he didn't need to do much other than signing them.

Still, the reasons for the sudden increase in paperwork is of course, the war that had just occurred. All of the skeletons suddenly collapsed partway and didn't disappear. On one hand, it made for a good fertilizer but on the other hand, there was enough to go around all of the farms in the entire country for at least the next few years meaning that they lacked manpower to gather them and space to store them.

Using their power as the central continent, they made deals with several countries lacking fertilizer and those that have uses for bones. Using this, they managed to secure potential funds of which to repair the city hence the amount of paperwork.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

"Y-your Majesty!"

A knight barged into the room while stumbling. The king furrowed his brows and gestured for the secretary to help the man up. Without questioning the king, the secretary moved to offer a hand to the knight who clumsily took it to prop himself up.

"Your Majesty, we've received report of a large influx of beasts from out of nowhere! We estimate that they'll arrive in the kingdom in a fortnight!"

"What direction did they come from?"

The secretary was the first to ask with furrowed brows

"T-they came from the direction of Auparith Kingdom..."

Just as the knight finished, another figure appeared from the door.

"I have to go meet with the council at once, once the matter is settled within a week or so, I'll return to finish our contract."

Hearing this sudden report, the king felt his mood drop. First, beasts heading for the kingdom and next, the S-class mage of the council, 10th who had come as a guard was going to leave.

"May I ask why?"

If he was going to return before the beasts come, they'd be more assured.

"...I've received reports of a hero summoning."

Aubrey Academy

"M-monster...!"

Before Kai even attacked, a lot of the students who went to point their fangs at him fainted.

It all happened in an instant.

When they first saw him come up, they were confused because he was from Rejuvenation but that shock quickly turned into horror. Everyone below A-class was knocked unconscious. Kai didn't need to make a move, his soul was enough for them.

"What happened?"

"Those other guys just fainted... Did that newcomer do something?"

Not just the audience, even Anne had become bewildered. Well, that was a forgone conclusion, Kai only activated it the moment he stepped on the stage and he limited it within the reaches of the stage. Not even the principal would be able to sense Kai activating his power but everyone could feel the air around him change.

Even those without enough strength were able to sense it. Everyone on the stage felt an increase in pressure every second. At first, the A-class were oblivious to the power and only realized it due to everyone below A-class fainting but now, some of them were feeling fear sprout in their hearts.

To them, Kai looked exactly like a demon. Adam had yet to be affected but he already felt unease.

If Kai added killing intent on top of Soul Aura, it'd be a lot stronger but killing intent was reserved for those one had to kill. No matter what, this was still a school sanctioned competition, killing wasn't allowed. The moment he killed a student, multiple S-class would chase him down.

Of course, he had confidence in escaping from them but what was the use of antagonizing them unnecessarily?

That's why...

I'll just give them a fate worse than death.

Coincidentally, one of Kai's other enemies were on the stage. The vice president of Aubrey Academy, William Rede.

He was the only one in the school not within their group who knew that 'Mio' and 'Rose' were married to 'Kenji'.

Naturally, he also set his sights on Kai. His willpower was even stronger than Adam's and sure enough, he didn't feel the pressure produced by Kai.

Well, that was fine. Soul Aura would make their souls shiver but he didn't want to limit their pain to just that. Right now, he could target Adam but not William.

Deciding his plan of action beforehand, Kai's left arm ignited into flames.

Armor and Enchanted Gear were allowed in this competition. In fact, many of the students had under armor that protected them from most attacks.

Taking advantage of that, blades began gathering around Kai's body. It was the armor he wore against Fate, it was severely damaged but since it was made of living metal, it could repair itself. Although it still isn't to its peak state, it was more than enough to use in this competition, no- it may even be called overkill.

The moment that the blades appeared and formed Kai's armor, the principal's eyes widened and so did many of the teachers and researchers who were watching.

"That's... living metal!"

"Where did this boy find that much?!"

Over by the seats near the principal, an old man's eyes lit up. By his side, a professor also had an expression of glee.

"Chairman..."

"I know."

Fate was one thing but the Aubrey Academy also had some history. Although their existence wasn't nearly as long as Fate's, the amount of knowledge they held was still formidable. Although they could've thought that Kai himself was controlling the metal, living metal had a shine that was hard to mistake. The details in the books of the academy were specific and concise.

With just one look, most of the professors managed to identify it. To them, Kai was now a walking gold mine.

Anne by the sides similarly responded like the professors.

I knew he wasn't ordinary... But, why did he enroll in this school in the first place?

William's face contorted in anger. No wonder he had two wives of their caliber.

Now, it made one question float through the minds of everyone. What was the identity of this man?

Unfortunately for the people on the stage, none of them had the leisure to feel shock. Starting with the ones nearest to Kai, everyone was suddenly blown away but strangely enough, nobody got eliminated.

Kai raised his hands and using Telekinesis, those who were blown away got dragged back while scraping the floor. Adam and Wlliam managed to recover from the initial shock and defended in time for the knockback but the moment Kai used Telekinesis, they were at his mercy.

A newcomer had just entered the stage and Kai immediately dragged him over to one side.

Right now, the participants were split into two. One with Adam, William, and their accomplices while the other had those in neutral positions.

Kai's armor disassembled itself and the blades began floating above Adam and the others. They were all on the floor and soon enough, the blades stabbed into their legs. There were more participants than there were blades but because he only stabbed it into those in Adam and William's faction, he had enough.

"AHHH!"

"MY LEG!"

Some were worse off than others. Some were just stabbed through the thigh but some of them still had the blades moving inside. Many of them were howling in pain while the prideful ones like Adam and Wlliam only grit their teeth and tried to attack Kai.

Kai raised his left arm and burnt every one of the attacks sent hurtling at him. The flames dispersed, the waters evaporated, the earth burnt to crisp, and the wind couldn't do anything at all.

Although Adam was near S-class, his attack couldn't do anything to Kai. Let alone hurting him, it didn't even pierce through his defenses- no, it didn't even reach his defenses.

Permanently crippling your opponent and killing them weren't allowed. But, having them experience torture wasn't.

"Let's have some fun, shall we?"

Thinking of Arata, Date, Kei, and Yoko who were injured by these groups of people, Kai felt his anger burn once more.
