The students of Rejuvenation 101 were seated on chairs with a long table separating them and more chairs. There were people on each of those chairs and each one had people lined up behind them.
Each of the students healed the wounds of the people in front of them whether they be scratches, stab wounds, or burns. This was a graded practical test but the professor was seated on the side, any patient who failed to get healed would be healed by the professor instead.
"[Heal]."
Kai healed the scratches on a child's knee. After doing so, his gaze traveled to Anne. All of the people lined up to her had wounds that would leave scars. On the other hand, everyone in Kai's line only had children and elderly with minor wounds.
This wasn't the first time the academy had done this and the people were already familiar with the faces of the students but Kai was new so most of the patients were reluctant to get healed by him.
Kai finished in about five minutes but the others' lines were still quite full. Seeing as how he had some free time, he then began observing Anne who was right next to him.
"..."
Anne furrowed her brows which made the patient in front of her sweat nervously but the wound on his shoulder disappeared without problems. She then turned her eyes towards Kai.
"May I help you?"
"No, it's nothing."
...
Soon, ten minutes passed by with Kai still staring at her. Her concentration dwindled greatly and right after she finished her patient, she glared at Kai.
"Why are you staring at me?"
"Hahaha..."
Kai scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
"Sorry, I was just mesmerized when I saw you from the side."
"..."
Hearing the compliment, Anne retained an icy expression. He turned his head to the side while sighing inwardly.
I want to die, that was just embarrassing.
Just as Kai was stuck in his thoughts, he turned his to the back of Anne's line. He raised his brows and the light in his eyes changed.
"When you get to the last person, don't immediately heal him, inspect the wound first."
Kai suddenly whispered causing Anne to look at him but Kai already turned to heal the woman with cuts on her hands in front of him.
As of now, her suspicion towards Kai heightened even further. If someone told her Kai was actually a spy, she would probably believe them.
Still, as long as Kai didn't show anything that would harm the school or any of the student body, Anne couldn't act on her instinct.
----------------------------------------
"Hey, isn't that Kenji?"
Arata said as he walked past the clinic with an open door.
"Oh, you're right. What are they doing?"
Kei followed from the side.
"I heard that they were healing anyone with wounds as a test."
Date answered with peering eyes.
"..."
Yoko didn't talk but silently took out a dagger from her pocket and made a tiny cut on her finger.
"O-oh no, I'm injured. I should get this healed quickly. Wow! Kenji's booth is open, I guess I'll go there, there's no other choice after all."
"""..."""
With robotic movements, Yoko moved all the way in front of Kai who had no others lined up in front of him leaving the three speechless.
"H-hi, can you heal this?"
"..."
Now, it was Kai's turn to become speechless. Yoko was talented, but she probably would never become an actress. Kai did as Yoko asked to avoid suspicion from Anne but just as he finished.
"T-thank you, ah, my friend is also injured over there so follow me."
Anne also saw Yoko doing robotic movements and talking in monotone and raised her brow.
"...Don't you two know each other?"
"...Yes."
Hearing Anne and Kai's conversation, Yoko's face froze. Several transfer students all transferring in the same day, it was too much of a coincidence for them not to know each other. Yoko, who didn't know that, turned red.
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
"I need to speak to you..."
With a lowered head, Yoko told Kai.
"There's still about an hour left though..."
"It's fine, you don't have anyone lined up anyway."
Anne waved her hands to shoo Kenji away. She was getting distracted by the two beside her so she quickly tried to send them off.
Glancing momentarily at Anne, Kai got up and left the clinic. Yoko quickly followed behind him. They passed by Arata and the others but a quick glance at Kai's eyes told them that the two were about to have a private conversation so they went on their way.
After walking a couple of minutes away, Kai stopped and faced Yoko.
"So, what do you want to talk about?"
Coughing lightly, Yoko began to speak.
"I was wondering how much of my abilities I'm allowed to use."
Kai had told them they were going to cause a stir but he hadn't told them how much exactly.
"...What brought this up all of a sudden? You could just talk to me after school."
After hearing Kai, Yoko turned her head slightly to the side and began fiddling with her index fingers.
"Oi, don't tell me..."
With a bashful expression, Yoko scratched her cheek.
"I accidentally broke the arm of a student who was apparently one of the top students in close combat."
What did she just say?
"I think I heard you incorrectly."
Kai said while clearing his ears.
"I said I broke someone's arm..."
I didn't hear incorrectly.
Kai covered his face with his hands.
"The plan was to make a high profile move in a week, why did you do it on the first day? Not just that, you broke someone's arm, that's even worse than a high profile move."
He sighed prompting Yoko to flinch.
"Alright, just match what you've shown so far. If you suddenly weaken, it'd be even more strange. I have to get back now."
"Nn."
Yoko nodded without meeting his eyes then ran off first.
----------------------------------------
When he got back, sure enough, there was a commotion by Anne's line.
"You people said you can cure anything!"
A man was shouting at Anne in anger.
"I'm sorry, we said we can heal wounds. This is clearly a plague."
Anne's calm voice irritated the man even further. Kai smirked after he heard their conversation. He wasn't there to participate in this event in the other timeline but he had heard news that Anne was the one who found the first sign of the plague.
He heard of it before but because it wasn't an important matter, Kai didn't know when it happened. It was pure luck for the event to happen today and that meant that Kai's plans would be pushed ahead even faster.
Anne wasn't able to cure the plague until a couple of years in the future but she spread the cure to prevent it from killing anymore. Multiple cities were killed by the plague and had to be burned to avoid further infection. It only stopped right before the war started.
Kai who knew the cure, smirked and began to approach them.
"You people of the academy on your pedestals can't even cure something like this?!"
Just as the man was about to get violent from desperation, Kai appeared and held the man's hand from hitting Anne.
"No matter the situation, it isn't nice to hit a lady."
Though I've already hit the lady in front of you dozens of times.
What Kai said was hypocritical but he needed to sound convincing.
"You!"
The man was angered even more as Kai gripped his wrist. He tried to shake Kai's hand off but his iron grip was too strong. Let alone shaking Kai off, he didn't even budge.
"Don't interfere!"
Seeing as how he couldn't get free, the man turned violent and turned to Kai to hit him.
With smooth movements, Kai tilted his head to dodge the incoming fist. Then, using the momentum from the man's attack, Kai pulled him and tossed him over his shoulder.
Seeing him defend with no hesitation, Anne's eyes narrowed but it wasn't the time to scrutinize him so she quickly bound the man's wrists with cuffs made of light.
"Hooh~"
The sound of a man clapping after sounds of awe made everyone look.
"Instructor Steel!"
Anne yelled out after looking at the man. He had a scar stretching diagonally with his nose as a center point but none of his features were covered.
He was quite tall, easily towering over Kai at above 190cm. He had a giant scabbard strapped on his back but there was no sword to accompany it.
"You, are you interested in enrolling into Combat class? The smooth movements you used to knock over that man is amazing. He may be a non-combatant but, I assume that with a little honing, you'll be able to do that to a real fighter as well."
Instructor Steel looked at Kai and the restrained man.
"I heard that to enroll into a class after finalizing my schedule is forbidden."
Kai raised a brow and asked with nonchalance.
"Hahaha! That's only for students, instructors can overrule that at any time. So, what do you say?"
The man laughed heartily.
With a smile, Kai opened his mouth.
"I refuse."
"""..."""
Everyone fell silent at Kai's flat-out refusal. Not minding everyone's gazes, he walked back to his seat to wait for people to heal. Seeing him take his station, the others left the restrained man to Anne and went back to the test.
Instructor Steel's jaw hung open and was about to say something but stopped himself when he saw Yoko and the others approaching.
"Ah, you all, help me convince this one."
"...?"
Yoko was the closest and was the first one to arrive, they were just about to head back to class and took this route to see what Kai was up to but found their instructor on the way.
Looking at where Instructor Steel was pointing, Yoko and the others followed and gazed at Kai.
"...Ah."
Yoko raised her brows.
"What? You know him? Quick, invite him already!"
Seeing a chance at getting Kai to join his class, his eyes brightened.
"I'm sorry but... I don't think he'll accept."
"I'll give you credits if you manage to hook him in!"
Seeing Yoko's refusal, he became desperate. Credits were useless to them since they were only temporary students but the instructor seemed to have forgotten.
After going back and forth to convince Yoko but still failing, the instructor left in dejection. The rest of them followed, they were late for class but the teacher instructing them was with them.
----------------------------------------
"Where is it...? Ah, there it is."
Scavenging around her room, Anne found a notebook inside a drawer and took out a quill and ink bottle. She quickly navigated through the notebook to find the last page she wrote on and after reaching it, gave a satisfied smile and dipped the quill in ink.
Day XX, Month 05, Year XX.
First day the second batch of transfer students have entered school. Unlike the first batch of two, the new transfer students all gave exemplary results, almost able to match one of the first batch's transfer students. Most of the observation this day was on transfer student, Satou Kenji, he had enrolled in classes all matching mine and added an archery class on the side.
It's but a mere coincidence for him to take all of the same classes as mine as many students also hold the same schedule but after seeing his performance today, doubts have began to surface in my mind. Not only is his knowledge of the lessons during the day perfect, he had also shown good combat prowess enough to be noticed by Instructor Steel and be personally invited to class.
Taking the transfer students' matters aside, I have discovered a new disease which has an unknown way of spreading. I've already sent the subject to the research lab, there is no progress so far other than knowing what it is. Symptoms, cause, and cure are all unknown.
That is all for today's log.
