Chapter 20 - New Monsters

Chapter 20 - New Monsters

After placing the newly made Abominable Snow Bear back on the Winter Island Mari moved on to the Fall Island.

Name: Fall Island

Type: Temperate Deciduous Forest - Fall

Size: 1.5 acre

Creatures: 4 Spotted Woodpeckers, 4 Red Squirrels, 4 Wild Boar, 6 Red Foxes, 6 Dormouse, 12 Grey Wolves, 2 Badgers, 4 Barn Owls, 2 Grizzly Bears

Theme: The Fall Island is stuck in the middle of a change, the leaves are changing colors but stubbornly do not fall, and the animals repair for a winter that will not come. The sense of anticipation is everywhere and yet nothing changes.

At first, she was tempted to go with the Red Fox, but the name and appearance made her want to wait till she had a Fire Affinity to give it.

Once the next Common Monster Core was bought she instead went with the Wild Boar and gave it the Nature Affinity.

When the option to mutate it popped up she chose not to. The monster she had in mind would work fine with a normal Nature Affinity. "Forest Bulwark, the great defense of Nature."

The next island up was Summer.

Name: Summer Island

Type: Tropical Rainforest

Size: 1 acre

Creatures: 2 Jaguar, 4 Sloths, 10 Gorilla, 2 Green Anaconda, 20 Scarlet Macaws, 4 Eagles, 20 Toucans, 10 Howling Monkeys, Assorted critters.

Theme: The Summer Island is eternally basking in the embrace of the sun, here worries seem to melt away in the heat leaving behind laughter and smiles.

"What to do..." Mari mused, there were a lot of options to choose from with this island. When she had been making it her intention was to have it seem like a perfect place to vacation, but at the same time be filled with dangerous creatures. Which was why she had gone with a Tropical Rainforest as the type.

In the end, she selected the Jaguar, gave it the space affinity, and named it, "Sun Striker." This time she selected yes and mutated it so was hoping the space affinity, the word Sun in the name, its natural appearance, and the fact it was a summer island would mutate it how she hoped it would.

The jaguar grew as was normal, but then the unique changes began. The black spots became darker seeming to suck in all nearby light, while the rest of its orange-yellow fur grew brighter and began to emit a shimmering heat.

"Perfect, just what I was looking for," With that, she moved on to the last of the four season islands, Spring.

Name: Spring Island

Type: Temperate Deciduous Forest - Spring

Size: 2.5 acre

Creatures: 4 Grey Squirrels, 24 Northern Cardinals, 4 Cooper's hawks, 30 White-tailed Deer, 4 skunks, 4 Black Bears, 6 Red Foxes, 10 Cottontail Rabbits, 4 Timber Wolves

Theme: The Spring Island is forever vibrant, constantly thriving with life. New beginnings are everywhere and flowers are in full bloom.

Mari selected the creature that would become her next monster, the Skunk. She could feel the evil smile spreading across her face and tried to stiffen her giggles. The spring island would be filled with wonderfully smelling flowers and horrendously dangerous smelling monsters.

She gave the Skunk a Nature affinity and decided not to mutate it just in case it lost the stink she was aiming for. "Stinker, hidden within the fresh flowers lies in wait a fate worse than death, the stench of fear."

This time the skunk shrunk instead of growing and its black fur turned a soft green.

"And that's the last of the quests done, I should now have..." Mari trailed off and checked her credit, "Yep, exactly 625."

A massive yawn told her that it was now time to sleep, so she closed her notebook and put it on her bedside table then curled up with Nuit and went to sleep.

"All the churches have reported that they have received Divine Messages from their deities," A man knelt at the feet of a throne.

"So, the letter I received is true," The voice was cold and hard. A wave of their hand dismissed the messenger.

"Interesting, what is it that has all those annoyances acting up." The figure on the throne sighed, "Oh well, I have been getting bored."

"Lady Weis, are you sure this is a good idea?" A nervous voice whimpered.

"Of course it is, this is the perfect chance to get ahead of my brothers. I will prove to my father I deserve to inherit." A beautiful young lady ignored her handmaiden as she packed. "Don't try to stop me, I will be going, nothing is going to stop me."

"Did you send the message to Father," James closed the door to his room and locked eyes with his younger sister.

"Yes, we're lucky that he was within range of the Message Orb." Luci sighed and rubbed her side, it still ached. "He said he'll try to get here as fast as he can but Uncle Roland has been acting up."

"I guess we'll have to hold on as long as we can," James groaned tiredly and collapsed onto his desk chair. "Luckys already been hearing whispers, people from all over are going to be coming."

"Guess we're going to busy," Luci grinned at her brother, excitement gleaming in her eyes.

"Guess so," James smirked back.

In a brightly lit room in a mountain palace hidden behind several divine spells, several mysterious figures had gathered.

"It's been a long time Juju!" The cheerful voice of a young boy interrupted the quiet peace.

"Don't call me that! Why are you here, I wouldn't think this was something that would interest someone like you."

"Hmm, well I guess you could say I have several interesting game pieces all heading toward our new friend," This voice rumbled like thunder.

"Of course, that's what gets you moving." His voice seemed to simulate the sound of lightning striking. "Don't play any of your usual tricks, the survival of our realm is at stake here. No one will have any patience for you if you mess this up."

"I know that Ju. I wouldn't risk the Guardian, especially at such a critical time." The boy's voice seemed tired, "But I wouldn't be me if I didn't try to cause at least a little trouble, and it's been so long since I could interact with the mortals."

"Whatever, I've done my job and warned you. Do what you want."
