Chapter 2 - The Forge Spark

"As expected, let's get you ready then." It nodded and waved away all the memories as well as the video of New York.

"First you will need to create your Forge Spark. Here are the traits you can choose from, you have 250 credits to spend on the Spark." Another gesture and a list appeared in front of Mari.

250/250

----------------------------------------

1.) World Tree Sapling: As a baby World Tree you forge will have an outward appearance to match, as you grow your branches will reach through the in-between and connect the realities. +Nature affinity + life affinity 200c

2.) Skyscraper: Like the shiny steel buildings of you're home reality your forge will stand tall reaching for the sky. +Metal affinity 100c

...

20.) Space Affinity: Not enough space? No problem you can now make larger floors for a cheaper cost. 50c

21.) Fire Affinity: Ever want to set the world on fire? ) Or maybe you just find relaxing by the campfire relaxing? Well, fire's your best friend now. 10c

...

Mari felt a bit overwhelmed as she scrolled through the seemingly neverending options. Some were incredibly expensive and others only cost 1 credit, but Mari had always had an overactive imagination, and as soon as she saw the World Tree option she was hooked.

No matter how hard she tried to consider the other options she knew that her decision had already been made. A click later her purchase was made.

She had 50/250 credits left, and when the Observer didn't react Mari assumed they wouldn't continue till she spent all her credits so she made her next choice and gained the Space Affinity.

"Intriguing decisions, as expected of my 'Guardian'." It remarked and waved away the list. "Next I will choose a realm and bond the Spark to your soul,"

"What!" Mari protested, bonding sounded potentially painful.

"This will likely hurt," Before any other words could be spoken Mari was lost to the pain that shook her body.

It felt like it would never end and as Mari curled up on the white floor she would have sworn wasn't there before she couldn't help but cry. Hours or maybe only minutes later the pain faded away leaving an ache in her bones and a warmth in her chest.

"I have selected a reality that I predict will have an encounter with the Void in 1 year and 23 days. It also has an acceptable amount of strong natives, that will help you grow faster." The being seemed to have to care for Mari's pain and ignored her still curled-up figure.

"I have already contacted the deities of the realm and they are expecting you. They will likely send some of their acolytes to welcome you." It paused in thought and seemed to consider something.

"I will have it so you land in an area relatively ignored by the deities, that will give you a bit of breathing room before they start interfering."

"Why- why can't the deities of this realm protect them from the Void? Why do they need a 'Guardian'?" Mari asked as she sat up slowly.

"Deities are only powerful within the realm they are born in, and Voidlings are inherently other. I suppose you could say that those of the Void are the antithesis of the divine." It answered.

"Now, I have taken the liberty of taking a splinter of your soul and merging it with a bit of the in-between to make an assistant for you. Currently, they are asleep in your soul but they will wake up when you land and your Spark bursts into a Forge." Mari had to take a second to restrain the swear that wanted to escape.

"I believe that is everything, ah before I send you off there is one more thing you should know." It paused and walked over so that it loomed over Mari. "Your reality, Earth has an estimated 7 years, 8 months, and 4 days, before the Void reaches it. I recommend you get there before them.

With that last remark, the Observer reached out a glowing finger and poked Mari right in the middle of her forehead sending her rocketing back into the neverending whiteness.
