Chapter 14: Return of the Purple Morph Gang

Chapter 14: Return of the Purple Morph Gang

Sitting on a park bench, having just completed several missions that involved moving many heavy objects and dealing with difficult people, Plain-Man recuperated in the Nature Park while waiting for the next.

He did not have his phone out and just sat, looking at the trees, bushes, and the squirrel that scampered over in front of him. Suddenly though, the animal ran away when the blaring siren-like chime emitted from Plain-Man’s pocket.

“Here we go.”

Pulling out his phone, he accepted the mission.

“I wonder…” he said to himself, then stood up and stretched before jogging over to catch the bus that was about to arrive. No one else was waiting at the stop as Plain-Man continued his stretching, getting ready for the worst. After a minute, he then heard the whooping noise the buses makes in the distance and the centipede-like vehicle pulled up to the curb where he was standing. But before he could get on, he waited for the crowd of people who rushed off the bus, some having more panicked expressions than others.

“Oh yeah, they’re back… Hey!” Plain-Man shouted to a man in black business attire who stopped reluctantly, “Is there something wrong?”

“Yeah! There’s a group of thugs wearing purple suits, beating up on people!”

Plain-Man gave him the thumbs up and headed in.

The first thing he saw was a homeless man who had been snoozing until the bus lurched forward. He looked up and noticed Plain-Man, before resting head again to sleep.

“Hey, you haven’t seen somebody in a purple morph suit, have you?” Plain-Man said to the man, who again opened his eyes.

“Can’t say that I have.” He said, and then immediately went back to sleep.

“Hmm, I wonder where they are… Well, be careful!” Plain-Man said, before turning to enter the next compartment of the bus. He wasn’t going to let them get away this time, he resolved to himself. He felt he was much more experienced this time around and knew what sort of trouble he could expect and wouldn’t be so coy. Just as he was about to open the sliding door, on the other side, the other door slide opened. In walked the familiar sight of a girl wearing a cape and zorro-like mask, Gloom Girl in fact, who looked around inquisitively until noticing Plain-Man.

“Hey, it’s you!”

Plain-Man waved as she ambled over and put her wrists on her hips.

“Don’t tell me, you’re on a public disturbance call, too?”

“Mmhmm” he said, nodding his head once, “I’m pretty sure I’ve run into these people before. They’re nasty sort of group, so I would be careful.”

“Thanks, but I’ve seen my own share of difficult situations and can handle myself.” Gloom Girl said, confidentially closing her eyes.

“Alright, well just be careful… Did you check all the compartments on that side of the bus?”

“Yeah, I got on at the end and didn’t see anything.”

“Well, if they’re still here, then they have to be in one of these. Come on, let’s go.”

He slide opened the door, and was about to walk through, when Gloom Girl nudged him aside and looked directly into his face while passing.

“Aren’t you going to allow a lady to go first?” she said, then smirked before entering.

“Whatever you say…” Plain-Man said, following behind.

Before he could fully enter the compartment though, Gloom Girl stopped in her tracks. Suddenly, she then ducked and something flew directly above her, hitting Plain-Man on the chest. Good thing though that, what turned out to be a can of Knockout gas that was thrown, was empty and fell to floor making an echoing clatter. Realizing what happened, he looked up to see the origins of the thrown can. On the other side of the compartment four of the purple morph gang were shoving a girl around, as a man in flipflops was struggling with one individually.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“Hey! Stop right there!” Plain-Man projected across.

They listened and stopped, letting the people go, and then all turning towards the two heroes who were getting ready for the confrontation.

“Oooh, its you! Ha, I thought we taken care of you already.” said the same raspy voice Plain-Man had heard before, “What’s your name again…? Lame-Man, right?” The five female voices filled the confined space they were in with witchy cackling.

Gloom Girl stepped forward, “We’ll give you one last chance to give up and surrender what you stole now!”

The tallest Purple morph again spoke up, “Lame-Man, did you bring a friend? You really need to bring a girl to save yo butt? Don’t matter. We gonna take care of her too!” She then gave a look to the other Purple Morphs and pointed forward at our heroes. The four purple suited women began shaking cans of knockout gas, cracking their knuckles, and saying threatening phrases like, “You in it now!” and “We gonna get you”. The first one stepped towards Gloom Girl who already had her fists up in a defensive posture. Gloom Girl stepped forward and swung her leg at the purple morph, kicking her directly in the head and sending her down.

“See? I told you I can take care of myself.” She said smilingly at Plain-Man.

Next, the rest of the Purple Morphs charged forward, two going to Plain-Man and the other to Gloom Girl.

“Watch out for the gas!” Plain-Man warned.

He grabbed and squeezed the spandex hand that held a can inches from his face and was about to spray until his strength made her drop it. Then he struggled to subdue her until deciding just to push her away so he could deal with the other one who was kicking him in the legs and stomach. Gloom Girl grappled fiercely with her foe, getting a pretty even match until the purple morph played dirty and poked her in the eyes. Seeing this, Plain-Man aggressively forced his opponents aside and brought out his trank gun.

“Freeze! Don’t move!”

The Purple Morphs stepped back and threw their hands in the air.

“Alright, alright, We’ll listen…” The Purple Morph leader said.

“You okay?” He asked Gloom Girl

“Yeah, I’m fine…”

Plain-Man continued “Alright I want you all step aside and face the–“ Suddenly, a purple limb flew into his periphery and the next thing he knew, the trank gun had been knocked out of his hand, flying across the bus floor.

The purple woman who Gloom Girl originally kicked had gotten up and now was attempting to tackle Plain-Man to the floor. This was the cue for the rest of them to attack again, fiercer and more wily than before. Three were on Plain-Man, punching and kicking him from all direction while the Purple Morph leader wrapped her arm around his neck and attempted to put him in a hold. He looked over at Gloom Girl who was having a difficult time with two against one and was beginning to be choked out by one of them as well.

Once he saw her beginning to struggle for her, Plain-Man had enough. He elbowed the big, raspy purple morph clinging to his back, making her give a loud, unexpected grunt like he knocked the wind out of her. He then pushed the other two forward, causing them to fall on their behinds. Just as he turned to help Gloom Girl out, his attention went to the ground when he heard the loud clanging noise of a can rolling on the metallic floor. He picked it up, gave it a few shakes, and unreluctantly sprayed it directly in the face of the purple morph who was choking Gloom Girl.

The purple morph began coughing heavily just seconds before dropping like a rock. Plain-Man stepped in between the other purple morph and Gloom Girl who breathed deeply and was trying to recover.

“I suggest you all surrender now if you know what’s good for you.” He held up the can.

Those purple morphs that were still standing stepped back cautiously with their hands in the air while Plain-Man picked up his trank gun and gave it to Gloom Girl to hold.

After rounding up the Purple Morph gang and tying them up with a rope Gloom Girl brought, Plain-Man held out his phone and took a picture. Their scowling, unmasked faces looked into his camera, forever to be known by the argus system for the crimes they committed. Prisoners wherever they go.

“We’ll get you for this!” The leader yelled, but then had to stop herself from continuing so she didn’t lose any more friendly points from her unmasked actions.

“Maybe you should think twice before you rob and harass the innocent next time,” Plain-Man said, “Then you wouldn’t be in this mess.” He untied the rope and let the women go, who shuffled defeatedly out of the now stopped e-bus.

Gloom Girl and Plain-man followed, walking out into the dusk that had snuck up on them while they were busy heroing. They were somewhere in suburbia on the edge of town, but it didn’t matter, because it all was the same.

Turning to Gloom Girl, Plain-Man said, “You were good back there. I have to admit, I was impressed.”

She listened to his words and then nervously giggled, “Yeah right, they almost had me, if it wasn’t for you stepping in.”

“Well, two against one isn’t fair. They played dirty anyways–“

Suddenly, Plain-Man’s phone began ringing.

“You up for another mission?” he asked.

“Sure!” Gloom Girl grinned at the masked man.
