Prank 5: Clothes make the man

Prank 5: Clothes make the man

At the end of the week the CEO called a staff meeting where the completion of the project was discussed, followed by discussions about distribution and all that jazz. Next she met with all her colleagues to say her farewells, then received her check/bank transfer and left, or at least that is how I imagine it because I have no idea how that stuff works. On her way home Penny visited a couple of clothing, costume and thrift stores looking for a new working outfit. When she was done with her shopping she had in her bags a professional pantsuit: black pants, black shirt and black vest, white and red ties and a long black coat, a long hooded black cloak, floor length black trench coat, black neck gaiter with a big laughing mouth on it and a black sweater. She also bought a wide range of black gloves from cotton jeweler’s gloves to ones from spandex, fake leather and satin. Oh, can’t forget the black hiking shoes. If she was going to be traveling between realms, might as well do it in style.

When she got home, Penny threw her purchases on the bed in her bedroom and called a real estate agency specializing in commercial properties. She needed a space for a shop with office a second smaller room with glass walls, back space for merchandise and a basement where she could start her temporary lab. The place needed to be at least 10 square meters or 107.6391 square feet. Once she gave them her number to call when they had something for her and she ended the conversation the thought that her smartphone doesn’t have signal in other dimensions occurred to her, so that had to be remedied. First she went to her router and found the Wi-Fi antenna on the device then started enchanting it to teleport the signal through space or dimensions to a marker that she enchanted on her smartphone if the marker was farther than 20 meters or 65.6168 feet from the router. Now she just had to find the nearest cell tower and enchant it to teleport 1 degree of its signal to the marker if it couldn’t detect it in its range. But that could wait until she decided where she was going next and what she was doing there. The next few minutes were spent researching on the internet if civilians can buy and own a radiation hazardous materials suit, a functional spacesuit and fire proximity and fire entry suits. As it turns out, if you have money you can own all of them without any specials conditions like working for the CDC, first responders or owning certificates for working in a hazardous environment, if there were even such certificates. After ordering one of each, with all needed extras like steel toed boots, protection gloves and SCBA gear, she only needed to wait for her deliveries in a few days. What she did next was to spend a few more hours learning and comparing codding languages from paid and free sites and then their practical applications and elegant solutions of coding problems. By the time it was time for her to sleep she knew more about codding and how systems worked than some programing geniuses. I of course know almost nothing about codding and hacking, so… that is all I am going to say on the theme. When she got out of bed the next morning Penny was ready to start actively moving her plans along.

-Now, let’s see if I can make a staggering amount of money.-Penny dove again in the world of the internet researching the most expensive substances on earth, new discoveries in the world of technology and methodologies, patents and possible applications of new and old materials. What she came up with to make her money scheme involved either using technology with magic to counterfeit Taaffeite, or make a few dimensional jumps to gather the ingredients for the best and most affordable bullet resistant armor on the market, then sell it to the military. For now she decided to try making the armor, before attempting to break the law. Sliding to the virtual monitor, Penny started a new design project, a hexagonal shaped container with 3 female and 3 male connection points. Now she just needed to go and get the ingredients for the rest of the project.

In a small comics shop we see Penny readying the ingredients for her next dimensional travel experiment. She is at the counter buying the comics book collection of the Superior Spider-Man Team-Up. Previously she tried her spell with animated movie, now it was time to see if the same results were possible with drawn media, and how far she could push her visual teleportation in the same world. After the comic shop she visited a computer store for customizable computers, laptops and notebooks. Her machine wasn’t going to be the fastest or most powerful hacking/cracking tool, but with her code for compensation, maybe it would be enough against her next adversary. Once she had her comic books and hacking/cracking machine and was again safely at home, Penny went through the books searching drawings of the lab of the superior spider-man. Once she had it from issue 6 page 5, next she moved on to issue 9 page 9 and got ready to work. She enchanted her machine with selective invisibility, put a signal marker to receive a Wi-Fi signal enchanted all the usual and a few unusual connecting cables as well as issue 6 with selective invisibility, it would be embarrassing to fail because she didn’t have the proper connector, and started writing intrusion programs and virus delivery systems. Again I have no idea what I am writing here. When she felt she was ready Penny activated the dimensional travel spell and teleported into the base of the Superior Spider-Man.

Between the legs of the giant, walking spider machine Penelope Roslyn Ankster stood amongst scientists, henchmen and even 3 marvel universe super-heroes, even if someone might question if Frank Castle the Punisher was super or hero. There wasn’t any reaction from the surroundings, no machine detected her or her teleportation and suddenly started an alarm. She waited a couple of seconds to see if that would continue to be the case and she was happy to find it was the case. She lifted the comic book issue 6 and concentrated on page 5 using the visual information to teleport into the lab. If she used dimensional travel, she could have maybe kind of time traveled, but if every comic issue was a window to a parallel dimension, maybe she was just going to end up into a parallel past that didn’t impact the current issue. But she didn’t dimension travel, just used the visual to travel in this world. On the far wall of the lab were rows of monitors and if she was lucky, or The Author was lazy, which he was, she would find all of Superior Spider-Man’s projects once she penetrated the system. Penny got her machine out of her pocket dimension and found a data port she could connect to then she got to work. Program after program were tested against the defenses on the computer, and after slight modifications and many minutes of trial and error, which we assume didn’t raise alarms because of the continuing infiltration of the base by a third party, she was in. There were all the schematics and programs she needed to build and run most of the tech she found plus all the chemical formulas of web fluids and insolvents for them. She copied all the files, erased her traces for good measure and got ready for another experiment. This time she tweaked the parameters of the selective invisibility and designated only people and machines in the room to not be able to see her. She then teleported from visuals from issue 9 somewhere the dimensional window into this universe could see her, and immediately after dimension traveled home.

Back in her living room Penny looked at the comic book she was holding and a new figure had shown up for a single panel. It was her. No one on the comic book panels could see her, but if she designated her spell a different way the audience could see her in the comic book. That was interesting, but not immediately useful or profitable, so she left the knowledge linger somewhere in her head for later. Now she had projects to finish and more experiments to run.

In her office Penny was once again in her chair researching and reading scientific articles. She needed to brush up on her chemistry, order the chemicals to produce the bulletproof web fluid in her files, cobble up a production machine for graphene while using the GraphAir method, and possibly reinvent a military “bulletproof” goo. It looked like she was going to have a very busy week.

And as it turned out it was busy. During the week Penny studied up on her chemistry and materials sciences. When she knew enough to mess around with the web formula without adversely affecting it she started working on cobbling the military goo from vague mentions of ingredients and processes involved in its making. What she came up with could stop a .44 caliber bullet with 3 mm thickness of the substance. When she was done with the prototype she had a graphene hexagonal container with the size of a coin filled with goo, closed with more graphene and then connected to other hexagons by flexible bulletproof web fluid. All of the hexagons were connected in the form of full body armor, pants, vest, sleeves, and neck gaiter and to finish it off graphene glasses covering the eyes. There was a second layer of hexagons imitating chain mail armor and the entire construction was sandwiched between two layers of 3D printed cloth made from bulletproof web fluid that felt like spider silk. She didn’t know why Spider-Man didn’t 3D print all his clothe from this stuff. It was strong, flexible, kept your body temperature regulated and could breathe. In fact she scanned all her purchased clothes and made herself a 3D printed bulletproof spider silk costume with the hooded cape, graphene plates with goo and everything. She even finished the look with graphene tactical lenses like the costume of the Superior Spider-Man. You may be wondering how did she make all that stuff so fast even if you exclude how realistic it is for her to learn all she did so fast? Did you think all the tech and costumes Big Hero 6 uses was build manually? No, with all the fabrication equipment she stole from the garage lab she could design everything and then just feed the materials into the fabricator and if needed assemble the rest on hand. But there was probably a machine that also assembles parts in the stuff she stole. Now that she finished her project, she needed to go to the patent office and register her goo formula and different variations of the web fluid formula if she wanted to present the suit to the military.

A few more days went past while Penny was busy with patent applications and waiting for her real-estate agent to call. Meanwhile she did enchant that cell tower like she planned to. Now the end of the second week since becoming a champion was coming closer and she needed to pull another prank and since she was already on the spider theme, she decided to continue in the same direction. She donned her costume, hood puled above her eyes and with the glasses and gaiter her whole face was obscured. Then she cast the partial invisibility variation for a room to not see her and teleported into the comic shop she previously visited. There were many spider-man comics on shelves and she was a little hesitant which one to choose, but in the end picked one of the newer ones. She was searching for a filler story, not a lot of danger, the spider suit left in the closed for the night. I have not read the comic books in a while, so let’s just say she found one for the story’s sake. Leaving the book open on the needed page, Penny traveled to a panel where Peter Parker was asleep, and slowly crept to his closed where she found the spider-man suit. She examined it carefully and cast a spell after which she teleported to her home dimension.

The comic book was left in the store until a young man bought it thinking it was the mas printing of the story, but when he came back home and read it, he was very surprised. There was a dark shadowy figure creeping on Peter Parker in the night, but his spider sense didn’t trigger, Was that part of the stranger’s powers or did she not mean him harm? The figure went to the hero’s closed and cast a spell according to The Author’s explanation and then disappeared without a trace. The next day spider-man woke up like nothing had happened and donned his suit then clothed himself and went out. Later that day when he was on patrol it felt like everyone was staring at him for reasons he couldn’t comprehend. Spider-man was wearing The Emperor’s new clothes.
