I answer, “Ya know, that’s not especially hard. I have to be able to defend myself against monkeys and stuff. So I need to get better. But ya know, monkey defense doesn’t take much work. Yeah, I sucked today, but that’s just practice, and if I’m good at anything besides drumming, I’m good at practicing.
“I’m not going out to save the world. I’m not even going out to save the city. Do we have cities? I’m gonna focus on being the best drummer our world has ever seen."
Alec answers, “And on the 7th day, God rested. Kevin. This world is 7 days old. Being the best drummer of the world isn’t hard. You may already be there.”
“Dude. I’m already the best drummer this world has ever seen! Rock on. Gotta keep my edge. What do you have for me that will help with drumming?"
“Why am I not surprised? And I suppose I will not convince you to pursue survivability? No? Very well then. Again, I see 4 general approaches you might be interested in. You can simply improve human characteristics. You can change or add to your physical characteristics. You can improve or add to your senses. And you can pursue thaumaturgy.

"Some specific changes you might be interested in around drumming. You can pursue speed. The ability to simply move quicker. It remains true that this is a muscular activity, and it’s close to pursuing strength. However, you can pursue either normal-strength speed, or you could trade speed for strength at cheaper cost. You might also pursue flexibility. You were complaining about your joints earlier. Loosening joints is not terribly difficult. Even to the point of double-jointedness. Reaction time can also be improved. Any of those would be a straight improvement to drumming capabilities with no changes besides being a better human..
"Adding characteristics is a bigger change. If you want extra joints, or even octopus tentacles rather than arms, it’s a rather large trade. On the other hand, making the limbs more autonomous, again like an octopus’s, by adding neuronal clusters in the limbs isn’t as expensive. I can’t see chitin or camouflage improving your drumming, nor any of the standard offensive changes.
“Senses and their associated cognitive changes seem like they’d be advantageous to the drummer. Snake style vibration sensing. Bat-like echolocation. Simply enhanced hearing. Volume control on hearing. Multi-band hearing.
“And then there’s thaumaturgy. Specifically audiomancy. It’s the only one that seems obviously fit to what you do.
"Do any of those fit with your vision of your future? What kind of drummer do you want to be?"
