"Now you are talking. Your wish is my command. " The voice said enthusiastically. Krish now realized what he had done as his heart started beating frantically. He ran trying to catch the owner of the voice.
"No, N-No. I didn't mean that. I-"
"Hey, what happened? Are you all right? " A familiar voice rang into his ears. Slowly the darkness started to dissipate and the colored view was in front of him. The old man was standing in front of him. He searched the room with his eyes as Layla was not there. He panicked thinking his decision had made Layla disappear.
"Don't worry she is fine. She is resting. I have cast a spell that has slowed down the disease. But don't count on me. You have to find the cure yourself. "
Krish sighed a breath of relief hearing his words. He got up and patted his clothes.
"Don't tell anyone what you asked for or it can bring trouble to you. Not even me. " The old man told him patting his shoulder. He looked more lively than usual even though he had lost his heart.

"How are you still alive? " Krish asked.
"Have you not heard the phrase 'Love can die but wisdom cannot'. Losing an organ or two is not a big deal for a grand wizard like me. " The old man said with his chest puffed.
"That doesn't make any sense. And why do you look so lively, you used to be grumpy and angry all the time. " Krish replied.
"Silly child you don't get it. I wanted to get rid of that curse for such a long time but the only way to get rid of it is to get killed by someone. I didn't want anyone to suffer because of me but now that you need the help of that curse I have no guilt in passing it on to you. " He said with a huge smile.
"But you are not dead. How did I get this curse? " Krish asked.
"Have you ever seen anyone live without a heart? Don't count me on that. I am on a level you can't comprehend. There may be only me who can achieve this feat. " He replied.
"Nevermind. Now what? " Krish asked confused.
"Your path has already been chosen. Before you set on your journey I have some things to tell you. " The old man said grimly.
They both sat by the fire. The old man passed on a plate with food in it to Krish. Krish was not in the mood of eating but the old man persisted. The sun had set down, and the whole day went by in the blink of an eye.
The village was a bit worried that their guard had not shown up for duty today. Some people thought of going and asking about his health but no one went in the end. He had a tough private life so everybody thought he was taking a day off.
