Krish was shocked to hear the old man. Krish took a step back as the old man tried handing him the sword. Sweat started trickling down his forehead
"Hey! Snap out of it. The longer you take the more the disease will eat away Layla's life. Hurry up! " The old man shouted at Krish as he threw the sword on the ground.
"But... How can I kill you? " Krish asked frightened. His hands shook as he picked up the sword.
"Just do it. Why are you so afraid? Aren't you the Guardian of the village? Sometimes sacrifices have to be made for the greater good. We have to save Layla. " The old man said as he closed his eyes and kneeled on the ground and took off his clothes.
"Pierce that sword right through here. " He pointed at his chest with his finger. Krish trembled as he heard the word pierce. He was big and strong but he had never taken someone's life. The most he had done in his life was kill a wolf. Killing a human was not something he wanted to do.
Krish was going to say something but then he looked at Layla's face. Everything he did in his life was for himself up until Layla was born. But after she came into his life he became something... Something more than a selfish human... Something more than a good for nothing... He became human for the first time in his life. The past him would have never stood outside the village looking for danger every day. He didn't know how to fight but he learned so that he could keep her safe. Now it all came down to this.

He closed his eyes to resolve his mind and opened them with calm energy oozing out of his body. He plunged his sword straight through the chest of the old man and then pulled it back as blood gushed out of the injury. He didn't even flinch as the sword passed through his chest.
The room was full of blood on the floor but the old man was not done yet. He opened his injury using both hands and gouged out his heart. He threw the heart on the floor as he sat in a meditative position and started to focus as his eyebrows furrowed. A few minutes later he was still alive and all of his blood flowed right back into his body. It was like his body was sucking the blood from everywhere. After that, his wound also started closing on its own. He finally opened his eyes as there was no mark of the sword attack on his body.
"What happened? How are you still alive? " Krish asked as he couldn't believe his eyes. A man whose heart was on the floor was still alive.
"Magic, son. " He only said this much as his heart which was on the floor started levitating.
"I will explain to you later but first brace yourself. The curse has recognized you as its new owner. It will now latch onto your body. Be prepared... It might hurt a little. " The old man said while wearing clothes.
Black energy rose out from the heart and instantly entered Krish's body. A splitting pain hit his head as he fell to the ground holding his head.
