Book 2 Chapter 21

Book 2 Chapter 21

“First things first,” Darius muttered to himself. He selected the Reinforced Wall on the building Tab. He saw that each section of the wall would take forty-seven Build Points, which translated to one hundred eighty-eight Essence with materials and five hundred sixty-four Essence without. As he considered how much Essence it would cost to just push the west wall out by fifty feet, even taking in to consideration the fifty percent refund of the existing wall, it would still cost him around ten thousand Essence to build it. “God damn it, why does everything have to be so fucking expensive? I wish I could just use War Points to build the damned thing. Defense is a war thing, ain’t it?”

To Darius’s surprise, when he’d set the wall to where he wanted it, he got a new prompt.

Sufficient War Points available to rapid construct defensive fortification.

1 War Point = 20 Build points

26 sections of Reinforced Adobe Wall: 12,220 Build points

War Points required: 611

Available War Points: 1,100

Would you like to instantly construct Reinforced Wall for 611 War Points?

Y/N

“Well, hot damn. That’d still leave me with five hundred or points left, so why the hell not?” Darius clicked yes. Within seconds he watched through the build menu map as brief clouds of rainbow fog covered the area only to dissipate a couple seconds later. He also noticed the original wall section was still there, which he realized meant he could still refund it for another four thousand Essence and change. Happy with the turn of events, Darius refunded the wall and watched as his Essence balance rose to twenty-one thousand, one hundred sixty-seven.

Flush with funds, Darius navigated to the Settlement store and used the Settlement Bank to purchase the Lord’s Manor and the Village Hall blueprints for a thousand credits and two thousand credits, respectively. When he opened the blueprints of each one, he was extremely glad he’d saved so much Essence on the wall.

The Tier 2 Village Hall is a significant upgrade from the Headman's Hut, reflecting the growing complexity and needs of the village. It stands as a testament to the village's progress and commitment to effective governance and community engagement.

“It’s going to cost me over seventeen thousand Essence for these buildings? Holy shit, that’s a lot,” Darius swore. He took a moment to calm himself, then with a soft, “Easy come, easy go.” Darius set about placing his new home and upgrading the old office into a brand-new Village Hall.

With those couple of tasks completed, Darius felt his stomach rumble. “damn, when was the last time I had anything to eat?” thinking back, Darius realized he’d completely skipped lunch and suddenly it felt like his stomach was trying to bore a hole through his spine. Closing the Settlement Interface, Darius stepped outside. The moment there wasn’t anyone inside the Headman’s hut, a wall of the multicolored fog rolled over the building and the eighteen-hour timer began. He paused for a moment, suddenly realizing that was where he slept and worried about where he would sleep, but then he remembered the Lord’s Manor only had a two-hour timer and relaxed.

Looking up, he saw that people had collected a bunch of the furniture they’d piled up by the storage room and had set up an odd combination of rustic surroundings furnished with fancy high-end tables and chairs. A line had already formed going to the doorway to Zumu’s new kitchen workshop, where they had set up another table and were placing plates piled high with food as quickly as people were carrying them away. Joining the que, Darius’s mouth watered at the delicious scents of food as people walked by to take a seat. There were still a couple of hours until sunset, so for a little while at least, he could sit down and relax with his people.
