Chapter Nine

Three hours pass by and the body of the suspect is brought to the interrogation room at the western police station.

“Strong stuff they shot him with!” Chief Ricky said,

looking through the glass.

“Wonder if we can speed the process.”

“Ally said it would last for five hours.” Steves thinks about the effects of the shot.

“We have two hours left so wait it out.”

“Speaking of Ms. Millar.” Ricky said. “How is she holding? You informed me that she had a bad link with this guy.”

Steve scratches the gray ends of his brown hair as he explains. “Got nothing from her crew about her conditions. But James did send me shots of Ben’s eyes.”

“You sent me those during that two hour meet up with both the police and the press.” Ricky mentioned. “God looked like he was the devil!”.

“Busted a lot of drug runs.” Steve says as he looks at a passed-out Ben from the other room. “Caught links of people smoking coke and displaying various amounts of alcohol consumption. Disgusted, yes, but not actually burning circuits.”. Steve pulls out a cigarette from his brown coat. “I’ll be out of the station for a moment. Never got the chance to have a pack due to one hell of an afternoon.”

“Well, your smoke break is going to have to wait.” Ricky takes his cigar. “Just got an email from the CEO of Metx filing a complaint towards one of our officers making

“Unreasonable” claims of murder. Even though the memory link you sent to me showcased his product was clearly miscalculated.”.

“Rich guys like that are quick to victimize to save face.” Steve responds annoyed as he gets out his lighter. “But all of that act will decline once the next city hall is in session.”

Ricky comes up and covers the lighter with his right-hand grip. “When that does happen.” The chief commands. “You better know what you’re doing.” He takes his hand off Steve's lighter. “Once you come back, I need you to contact that crew. that woman should at least know something that she saw.” Ricky walks back to his office.

Steve grumbles to himself. “Where the hell are they anyway?”

Miles away from the station.

“You think it's time to take her into the hospital?” James asked, sitting at the edge of the back door opening of the truck.

“Don’t think that will be the case.” Celi says. “Considering the fact, they are only used to wash, sleep and cool down inside of. Both my cyber optics and the pods' central monitor reads that her percentage should fall back around ninety- seven degrees or lower while cooling down.”.

Suddenly, the pod opens.

“Oh my god! Perfect timing!” Celi shouted.

Ally, laying down in the pod while looking up at the Truck’s ceiling. Breathing slowly.

“Let me close the door.” James said, sealing the back shut.

The truck would automatically shut on white lights.

Celi throws her a towel while sitting on a foldable chair and asks, “How are you feeling, Chicka?”. There is silence. “Ally?”.

“Kill the pigs.” Ally spoke huntedly. “The last I heard before the disconnect.”.

James had a worried look on his face. “I feel ready to call this mission a wrap.” he suggested.

“No” Ally says drowsy as she stands up out of the wall pod with her towel on. She kneels down.

“Careful, you can barely even stand!” Celi advised.

"That's all I can remember. "Ally whispered. “Nothing but the... screams.”

“Got a call from Steve.” James pointed out as he left the truck. “I'll check back with you in a second, Ally.”

“If he is calling.” Ally said. “That means he must need us. Got to get ready.” She slowly stands up.

“You just got up!” Celi shouts as she stands up. “Leaving soon after that scene back at that company. You should still rest.”

“The rest was enough.” Ally responds as she buttons herself up in her white shirt that is thrown to the ground. “Overheard a bit in the pod.” She feels for her hair. “You guys didn't even take off my hair tie. That attack must have been truly urgent.”.

Celi shakes her head and says, “Derick drove us to a hospital to make sure you were not undergoing severe damage to your body.”

“If it's about the cybernetics” Ally argued. “I did a quick body analysis with my optics operating system. I’m fine.”

Celi clutches her fist. “Physically, you may be. But what about mentally. Don’t think I've ever seen anyone act like

that during a link before”. Ally stops changing and glances into Celi’s wide brown lit eyes. Clearly, she is stressed.

Ally begins to speak. “Before I came into this organization. I was truly pure of any augmentation. Somehow by leading a squad of soldiers alive back in twenty-one thousand and eight and beyond. where terror was getting stronger with augmentation. The best we had was giant heavy armor, bullets, and common sense.”

“That's what you're lacking.” Celi sighs. “We don’t know what kind of threat was able to trap you inside your link.”

“Like leading those that looked up to me.” Ally responded. “I’ll find a way.”.

“It's not just your fight.” Celi's voice intensity lowers. Before Ally could process what was said. The video call of her cyberlens is heard.

“It's Jack.” Ally said. “We’ll talk later.”

“It's fine, you crazy chicka.” Celi shrugged off while looking into her laptop as she laid in her pod. “Just don’t die out there.”

“Sir!” Ally shouted.

“Glad to see you awake.” Jack cheered.

“Are you feeling well?”.

“More than ever, Sir!” Ally responds slightly upset. “That blackout you did there was unseen. If you’re not feeling up for the mission...”

Ally was silent for a moment. Then she said, "feels like I may have something that would hopefully build to some sort of lead.

“Go on, slowly.” Jack ordered.

Ally recalls the moment “Just the rumblings of some person with violent intent towards both the police and even companies like Eden and Metx.”.

Jack was speechless. “Unbelievable. I’ll get this out to the United States security department branches right now. Hopefully, they can issue this out globally as a terrorist threat.”.

Ally's voice saddens a bit. “If only I knew of the name of the site. planning on visiting Steve at his station. He took the man responsible for putting me in this position.”.

“Do what you can.” Jack said. “But please be safe. Razor, out.” The call ends.

A knock on the back of the truck is heard. The doors opens.

“Got off talking to Steve." James said standing outside. "Told him you just got up but weren't sure if you’re ready yet.”

“I’m prepared.” Ally says as she puts on her suit.

Derick comes inside of the truck holding a small bag.

Celi smells around her pod. “The smell of chicken!” she leaped up running towards the end of the truck.

Derick was quite annoyed. “Everyone has a small box of chicken curry each!” He chants. “A Japan themed takeout kart was

near the hospital parking lot. Don’t go eating everything,Mertez !”

Celi took her box and ran like hell back to the pod. Derick gives a box to Ally. “You were knocked out!

Sleeping like a baby but now standing like a scarecrow.”. Ally sat down and began to quickly eat her food.

“Finished the call with Steve.” James says hopping on to the bus. “When you feel well enough. We can head off to the station.” James grabs a box from the bag.

Ally sets her empty box on the seat of the pod.

“We need transportation to the west division station.” Ally commands.

“Man, just sucked that stuff down, did you?!” Derick said as he got his keys out. “Alrighty, everyone settled up on the pod's seats. Weekend traffic in this city gets intense!”
