Chapter Eight

Mr. Allaire stands up from his desk as he dusts off his black suit pants.

“It's a pleasure to meet you all.” He shakes the hands of both Steve and James. “Well now.” Glosses at Ally. “A slight for these rusting eyes.”

She puts her hand up slowly anticipating a shake and greets. “Glad to be an acquaintance.”

Allaire slowly guides her palm up. “Indeed.” he says calmly as he kisses. Ally's eyes widened with bewilderment.

“A man who lives like a king found his queen!” Celi menacingly laughed and

joked.

“If you're done with making moves.” Steve intervenes. “We got some business to talk about.” Allaire puts down Ally’s hand and turns his attention to Steve.

“Right, the investigation.” Kyle says rather a tad bit free. “Been recalling every robot on petrol wirelessly by communicating from my office here to the warehouse

department behind the building. sadness in my heart to have to put my workers into overtime because of this interesting up rawr.”

“Interesting?” James said suddenly with total irritation. “You mean Tragic. A local man following protocol was shot by your bots anyway.”

“Detective, I recommend controlling one of your men for being too

brash.” Kyle directs while looking annoyed towards James.

“Stay collected, Conner.” Ally calmly asked. James calms but still feels rather stretchy about the corporate suit.

Steve continued his interview saying. “I want to ask about the model the man was shot by. Need to do a full memory link inspection.”

Allaire waved his hands. “That's unneeded.” he said. “My company is on the clock analyzing any malfunctioning components these droids are having. What's the issue, detective?”.

“You only have the eyes of those under yours to notice nothing.” The detective rebutted. “But I brought mine and two pairs of outsiders. If you can take it from the kindness of my heart. Can you request that droid to come up here?”

“You mean model number twenty-six?” Kyle asked. “He has been the first one I wanted to be scanned since caught on the news. No loose wires or anything.” “Have you even checked the footage?” Steve questions.

“Of course, we did. For over two hours with several engineers and coders. I take pride in proving the best ingenuity with my surveillance technology. My company is only second behind Metx for a reason. I only choose to undercut the prices for many organizations that could benefit.”

“If you’re confident.” Steve replied. “Why be so hesitant to show me? Is it still here at all?” Kyle facepalms.

“It is. But all three of you will be wasting your time.”

“I beg to differ.” Ally said. “Would you agree that it would be far more productive to stand by your

confidence if you truly feel like nothing is wrong?”.

“A pretty woman with a feisty tongue.” Kyles snaps back. "I'll bring the model up but swear there are no surprises.”

Using his cyber lens. he orders an engineer to guide the police bot to the top floor.

“You ordered this model?” The engineer asked.

The robot was following shortly behind with proper movement of military precision.

“Yes, now stand by. This will take nothing more but a few minutes anyway.”

“The moment of truth!” Steve thought. “Time to system link the robot with me. Let's try the wireless id.” “Hey, police droid!” He shouted. “Memory link with me, Detective Steve Mitchel!”

“Police department. West station.” The robot analyzed. “Police Identification confirmed. Will wirelessly link immediately.”

“Good luck, Steve” Ally cheered while displaying a slight smile.

“I don't need luck. Just some good evidence!” He remarks. “Ok, the system link set is done. Time to recreate the scene.”

“His eyes are glowing a bright brown!” James noticed.

“That means he is in the virtual recreation of the night.” Ally explained. She turned her focus to Kyle. “Got the nerves?”.

“None, just eager to get this over with.” Kyle snapped back.

All around the slight of Steve is a white background fading into the pitch blackness of the night.

“It worked!” He shouted. “I’m deep within its memory recordings. now viewing this from the bot's point of view.”

He sees what looks to be a frozen snapshot of the thief putting his weapon down. As He walks around the virtual crime scene. He brings out the user control interface.

“Let's fast forward a bit.”

He sees the haunting image of the man being shot.

“Saw that he put his weapon down. But something triggered the urge of the bot to commit.”

Steve slightly rewinds to the start of the shooting.

“Looking at the robot’s view. It's still detecting a threat.”

The detective sees a red scanned high light flash between the man’s pocket. It seems to be highlighting the suspect side of the overall pocket.

"Wait a minute.”

He recalls the first night he met with Ally and James.

“Those two found out about the hidden nade. Could it just mean that after all this time? The robot made the wrong suggestion to shoot him dead. The gun on the ground isn't highlighted. But the fact that the nade was sticking out of the side. Must have made it keep alert. Must have malfunctioned and shot him. Hell of a way to go.”

He pondered. “This will be a stain on the force itself. But the company shifting all of the blame to the city’s police department is irresponsible. If im a human and know that man was cooperating with the law. The robot should have known. Kyle and his company aren't going to take this well. Looks like the chief and other police departments are going to have to take this up to city hall. Renegotiations are in order. ” he sighs. “At least this is saved to my own links to show to the chief. time to de-sync!”.

Suddenly, Steve’s eyes begin to blink.

“So, nothing then?” Kyle sneered.

“Nothing but one thing.” Steve says as he turns towards the white collar dense. “Gaslighting your employers for a design flaw. You broke the most basic law in the book. Third degree murder.”

“You’re fucking with me, right.” Kyle angrily states. To make such a claim!” Kyle shouted. “I’ve had these bots patrol the city for years without issue.”

Support the creativity of authors by visiting Royal Road for this novel and more.

“But your robot didn't even consider the thief incident when he put the gun down.” Steve said.

“ He isn’t innocent.” Kyle augured. “He took credits from a store!”

Ally stepped in and spoke. “We’re not saying he is. But he was willing to cooperate with

the law.” .

“If you are willing to take this to the city hall.” Kyle threatened. “Got the world’s best lawyers. make sure to take whatever I can from every single one of your

departments with all of the assumptions you'll be making.”

“If you are wise enough to do that.” Steve comments. “I’ll inform the chief. But that doesn't mean you're off

the hook so easily. Suspect a lot more visits from me.”.

“I look forward to it.” Kyle grumbles. “Model eighty and seventy. Guide them to the first floor.”.

“So much for hospitality.” Celi comments through both Ally and James’s lens calls.

Suddenly, an alert is heard across the building.

“What now!” Kyle shouts as he picks a call from his cyberlens. “An ARMED SUSPECT?! The press is gone too!”

“You don’t say!” Ally thought as she looked at Steve and James. “Conner!” she commanded. “Follow

me!”

“Got you!” he responds. The two pairs run off.

“Guess our chat can wait.” Steve says as he fast walks behind.

“Follow them! Make sure nothing is destroyed.” Kyle commanded. The two robots sprinted out of the room. “Jenny, when this is all over. I need to make a lot of calls.”

The trio made it downstairs.

“Jenny!” Ally shouted. “Are you safe?!”

“I.. Am under the table” she shivered with fear.

“Get your tranquilizer pistol, out!” James commanded.

The two got out their pistols from their inner suit pockets buried between their large black raincoats.

“Steve, can you protect Jenny?” Ally asks as she gazes heavily at the door. Steve nods as he gets out his sliver revolver.

“Here for you, Jenny.” Steve comforts Jenny while using the table as cover.

Holding a revolver in his right hand near the entrance. Ally and James Walk together in unison. aiming their pistols towards the door.

“The suspect destroyed both of the drones.” Ally thought. “I’ll get a reading. See who this man is. his cyberoptics identification revival his name is Ben Isaac. Picking up his weapon barcode He is holding a P577. one of the fast semi pistols. No wonder they came down so quick.”

“THE TIME FOR PEACE IS OVER!” the crazed gunner speaks. “You and the cops had your chance. Show me your CEO or I’ll make myself welcome!”

“Isaac!” Ally shouted. “Drop your weapon!”

“Another dirty cop willing to kill.” Ben spouts. He takes aim. “I don’t take no orders from Public executioners!”

Suddenly, a light comes flashing from behind.

“What the FUCK!” Ben shouted as the light drew closer.

A shot is heard.

“My neck.” Mr. Issac whimpers out as he has fallen to the ground. “Quick timing with the truck!” Ally spoked to Celi over the call. “Nice shot!” Celi commented.

“Yo!” Derick greets as he jumps out of the van.

James joked “Afraid you were going to leave a bigger mess than this guy.”

“Just my way of buying time, dog.” Derick Says as he looks at the gunman. “He’ll be out for a good long time.” Steve, Jenny and a few other employees come rushing to the entrance.

“No blood but he is knocked out cold.” Steve highlights as he scans Ben’s body.

“a special set of Tranquilizers made to knock out criminals for five hours.” Ally explains.

“Good god!” Jenny shouts as she closes her eyes.

“No worry, mam.” James claims the red hair mistress. “Issue is taken care of without any injuries.”

“Amazing work all of you.” Steve comments. “I'll Call the police over here quickly.”

“I’ll inspect him for anything else in the meanwhile.” Ally said. She and James walk up to the downed suspect.

“What's all the commotion!” a shocked Kyle comes running in! “Please tell me that no one died.”

“No one else did to your fortune.”

“Oh, thank the stars.” Kyle sighs. “Well, you heard that, folks. No

one is harmed, so back to work everyone!”

The small crowd of workers nervously returned to their locations.

“That man shouted for your name in blood.” James said as he slightly turned his head towards Kyle. “If I were you, I would plan to leave.”.

“With all of this series of spirals.” Kyle waves his arms in anger. “I’m not going to give up my industry. worked for years to get off the ground. I’ll explain to the police when they get here.”

“Right now.” Steve says with great concern. “We may currently have our disputes. But i don't think it's a great idea to jeopardize yours and many others' safety out in the open right now.”

“I should be telling you the same, Detective.” Kyle snaps back. “The public hasn't been too keen on the law for a long time. The latest news seems to be the boiling point of misanthropic urges.” Kyle stares around the scene. The van lights flashing, Ally getting her gloves out to inspect, and James giving off the most annoyed glare. Kyle then stares back to his assistant’s table. “Jenny! Take over the police interviews for me. I’m taking the backway out to my smart car.”

“Ok, be safe boss!” she shouted.

“Oh, I will be.” Kyle says while looking at Steve with a smirk. The golden watch-wearing businessman leaves the scene.

“Can finally bloody focus.” Ally thought. “Gloves are on. now to inspect.” She turns the body around. “I wonder if he was delusional. one gun man willing to take on a whole building crawling with security.” She slightly opens his eyelids. “So, I wasn't seeing things. His whole eyes are darkened.

“What is up with his eyes?” Celi asks while on a call.

Ally responds. “I'll send some snapshots to you. Try to see if you can make anything out of that.”

“Got Ya!” Celi replies.

“How is the investigation going?” Steve asks while walking from behind Ally. “Good god! That's a new one I've seen after dealing with endless drug cases.”.

“I’ll do you the favor after earlier and do a quick memory link.” Ally offers. “Send everything when I'm done

inspecting.” Ally flicks her right wrist open. “Due to him being unconscious. I'm going to do a manual link with my link wire.” She grabs Ben’s right hand wrist and flicks

it up.

“Good luck!” James cheered!”

Ally plugs in.

Ally activities her interface and clicks the thumbnail with the current date.

“It's dark.” Ally thought as she walked around the room. "Seems to take place in Ben’s room."She notices the rebel youth sitting down on his beanie chair. Along with Beer cans and lit buds on the surface of the brown carpet. “Wonder what he is watching.”

The memory plays on with a disembodied voice.

“For years, I've tried to warn them. To showcase in the most peaceful manner I could.”

“The voice sounds like it's distorted.” Ally notices. “Not too shocking when trying to convince others to commit crime.”

The voice speaks on. “The last few days, I've had enough. We all had for decades. If the force is going to gun us down like dogs. Let's cook and bake them like the pieces of pork they are. Down under my video. I have a download link that’ll enhance the upgrades you need if you think you’re worthy.”

“Fucking murders.” Ben shouted. “Sending out bots to kill while stuffing their faces with donuts. I’ll take that link!” a moment after the download. “Ugh, my head!” Ben says as he rubs his head. “Feels like I'm going to puke.”

“What, the Link is flicking!?” Ally panics. “I can’t control anything! The link footage is gone?!”

“Fry the Pigs” A voice said. “Burn Eden and Metx to the ground!”

“No, this is awful!” Ally shouts.

The voices keep going on. “Burn the pigs!”

“Stop!” She yelled while kneeling helplessly.

“Oh my god, what's happening to her!” a shocked jenny shouted from behind the desk.

“What's going on?!” Celi shouts through James’s lens.

“Why is she shaking, damn it?!” James's thought. “I got to pull her out of it!” He shouts.

“While mid linked!” Celi shouts. “That might mess up her circuits for future links!”

“She is my partner, damn it!” James runs out and pulls the port out of Ben's wrist. Ally’s body falls down, slivering. “Taking her back to the truck. Sorry Steve!”

Steve nods. “I’ll take care of the suspect and interviews. Just get her well. Please!”

James rushes to the back of the van.

“Damn, Chicka!” Celi says as she opens the back of the van.

“Strip her down. Her body levels are overheating!” Derick ordered. “The wall pods of the van should sprinkle her in water.”

“Noted!” Both Celi and James replied as they both

helped take off Ally’s outfit.

“While you two set up." Derick rans towards the front door of the truck. "I’m driving our asses out of here before things get crazier.”

As Derick slams the back doors shut and heads to the front. James picks up Ally.

“Hang in there, Miller.” He says as he flicks her wrist and lays her body down on the white soft cushions of the wall pod.

Celi inserts her link wire into the pod slot for repairs.

“Rest well, Ally.” Celi's voice is affected with melancholy.
