Since the encounter with the gate the world rushed through the tech tree.
The world is currently going through its second world War headed by our old friends Egypt and babylon, though the two of then had gone through a lot of name changes since then.
Germany-formerly known as babylon-was going aroud looking for any magical or mythical items to help with their war efforts which works for my advantage so they can do my job looking for other gates or related items.
Lucky me.
While standing out when looking at them ,gates are really small on scale to the entire world, combine that with the fact that only thing I know about them is that they maybe exist and it is no surprise that I couldn't find it.
That with this world being as small as it is, if it was the same size as earth I would know what to do with myself.
Earth?.
I said it unconsciously, but was that supposed to mean ,dirt isn't that large.
While I was figuring out whats wrong I received the signal is waiting for.
They found the second gate.
In front of me was stode an object that was very familiar yet different.
For once it was much larger, and the numeral on top was slightly changed.
This supports my theory that it's a number, but with the larger size it's seems it's not just a serial code.
And finally the most important bit,was the feeling I get just by looking at it.
Protect.
Do not let anyone touch it.
Kill all who dare to get close.
Well this isn't ominous at all.
Jokes aside this made everything obvious,I was put here to protect this Gate by the one who made it and since there no one inbthis world that only leaves the other Gate, more specifically the people who'll came of the other Gate.
This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.
If you don't want anyone to get through then why build the other one to begin with.
Not that's my problem to think about, I'm just a guard dog who happens to be planning to escape at the side.
But I should at least look like I'm doing my job.
Let see, the war was not on the Germans side ,and when they finally found something that could change the tide of war, it was too late.
Defeated and relinquished of their capital they decided to make a new capital directly above the Gate.
Mm,sounds good enough.
......
It was the middle of the night in old abandoned castle, built around a ash colored arch with insides made of pure darkness embedded into its walls.
Five figures walked out of the arch into the courtyard.
"So this is the next floor, doesn't seem that hard" a young man was excitedly walking ahead with his head held high.
"Ethan, get back here, you don't know when you will be attacked" an older woman tried to warn him.
"There is no need to worry, this floor is quite safe as long you don't do anything outrageous" a man who seemed to be the leader of the group reassured her while leading ahead.
"Well,if you say so"
"The boss is always right" the young man,Ethan exclaimed.
"But shouldn't these thing get harder the more the go on,how this could this one be easier"one of their other companions asked.
"I said it was safer, not easier, all the floors we've been through were challenges requiring skill in combat"
"This a different kind of challenge, one which we can't fight our way through"
The soon after reached a Cliffside that overlooked the whole valley below.
"Ohh" various sounds of admiration came out of the members mouths.
Right below them was city with high rase buildings made of metal and glass, each one shining like stars in the sky.
It was a sight they hadn't seen in a long time.
"This i-is,are we back" the oldest member of the team asked.
"No" the leader coldly replied.
"We're still in the tower, this place is a mere imitation to trick you"
"Well luckily we have the boss, as long as you're here we'll be able to beat anything" Ethen tried to lighten the mode.
"I have something else to do, you'll have to solve this floor without me"
"You really are the worst at reading the room, sure, go on, whatever you need to do personally mast be really important"the older woman sighed while waving her hand.
The leader walked a few steps before stopping.
"Have you ever heard if the Philosophical zombie"
"What"
"It's a thought experiment were if everyone but you is physically identical to a normal human being but does not have conscious experience"
"What are you going on about"
"For example, if a philosophical zombie were poked with a sharp object, it would not feel any pain, but it would react exactly the way any conscious human would"
"Are you sure you're not drunk"
"Just remember it" He turned around and looked her in the eyes.
The woman tried to argue but give up.
"I'll remember, I promise"
Hearing those word he wordlessly turned around and resumed moving.
"This guy, I swear "
