6.fortunate encounter

A lone child was wondering through the woods.

The adults warned him that the forest was a dangerous place that he should stay clear off.

But as an orphan in an era where your position in society was determined by your parents, the only to he'll get a decant job was to prove himself, so he went in anyways.

As he stepped on a large marshy object, he looked down to see a rotting body under his feet.

He fell back and screamed in horror as the body stood up and looked back at him.

That body was none other then me.

The boy's reaction wasn't unwarranted, ever since I left the village I haven't used my own body as I was focused on controlling all the people.

And through his eyes I was able to see the results of that decision.

My skin was starting to fall of from rot, I had bits of my flesh messing which made some my bones visible.

But by far the worst offender was my face,to put simply,I couldn't even decipher the age or wither it was female or male.

Was I man or a woman again.

Well it's unnecessary to know.

The damage was so strong it couldn't by fixed by troll blood.

"Calm down, young one,for I mean no harm" I had gotten used to talking to myself thru the people put doing it with my own mouth still was weird.

"Who are you,how can move like this" normally a kid would be too scared and ignore me and run away, but this wasn't a worry since this one was following a script.

I was about to answer the question when I realized.

What WAS my name.

It has been so long since I interacted with another person as myself I completely forgot about it.

Should I make up a new name or something like that.

"You may refer to me however you like, for I'm nameless" I went with the easier option.

"And I have mastered life itself under my will" that was a nonsense excuse to explain why I can't die.

"so you're a wizard then, can you teach me to be like you"

To explain more,no actual wizard who used magic existed, though rumors and stories of them did.

I even tried having one of them use the same magic I did, didn’t work.

I could only guess it had something to do with how they didn't have a soul.

"For that I can not, for you don't possess the talent necessary" and before he could lower his head in disappointment I continued "However I can teach you in the ways of kings and Emperors" in other words:

Kid ,do you wanna be king of the world.

I was thinking that the technological, political and all other cals advancements of this world were getting really slow.

One of the main reasons was how disconnected everything is.

If one person made a discovery, it would most spread to the closest towns and cities ignoring the other 90% of the world.

That wasn't helped by the fact most human settlements were in areas with low to none monster activity spread all over the place.

without magic the only way to beat monsters was human wave tactics, making travel a dangerous and costly endeavor.

The best solution I found was to make a centralized empire that covers most of the known world, to transfer said discovery.

Thats right, its time to build Rome.

And this kid was the one given the honor of said duty.
