Day Six: Part Four

Day Six: Part Four

June want on for another hour and the muscles for flying were growling at her to stop, but she wanted to go on. Tom notices her arms starting to shake.

"June, stop for the day. You're doing a good job, but you need some rest."

She fall back into the tail grass and closed her eyes. He thought she was going to take a nap as she laid there with a smile. She sat back up after a while and asked.

"Off to the construction site?"

Seeing no reason not to go, Tom did a quick nod and said.

"Ok, let's get a go'n."

She settled herself behind him on the bike and Tom got them moving at another half-G. They were all most at the dam when a thought hit him. 'I need to get a space ship!'

He stopped in mid-air and asked June what she thought of the idea. She brought up a good point.

"Wouldn't your magic mess with all the science stuff on the ship?"

His mouth hung open as he tried to work round this problem. Closing it and put a hand on his chin as he thought about it. Tom hit the kick starter and got the engine running. Then turning it off and looking back at her.

"We will need to do some research on what can or cannot work. I know computers are right out. Me and Science are going to butt heads from time to time, but I think we can get a steampunk ship to work."

Her brows lifted a little in surprise.

"You talk about science like it's a religion or person."

He laughed at that.

"It feels like it some times. Anyways, I can day dream about it later. Going to need money before I can do any of that."

Slowly dropped down to the ground, Tom could see they did need the help of a wizard. The work crew of men and stronger looking mamono were starting next to an earth mover. It some how ended up on its side. They both got some attention as Tom landed them just outside the crowd of workers. He did the 'slow cool guy walk' as he headed towards the big machine. The crew shifted out of the way and June followed behind him. Tom stopped about five feet from it. Standing next to him, June asked.

"Think you can move it?"

Looking over it over, he replied.

"If the pay is right."

He turned and pointed at a random worker in the crowd.

"Where is your constructions chief at?"

None of them knew who he was talking to and took a step back. A tall green orc girl was left standing there. She looked around and then rolled her eyes. After grumbling something about her co-workers, she answered his question.

"The big boss is behind you."

He turned to look, but on one step forward. June cooed a small hum and pointed down. A very annoyed gnome looked up at him. Tom didn't have to look at the orc to know she had a shit eating grin. Clearing his throat, he asked.

"So, need any help from a wizard?"

Give the earth mover a quick glance and then back at Tom.

"I'll pay you two if you can get it fliped back over and 'Only' if it starts up.

This worked for him and he asked.

"Can you get some of your crew to tie ropes on this side and pull when I tell them to?"

She started to call out some their names and they got to work. This thing was a lot bigger then crane at the junkyard and he would have to try something new. As all that was going on, he drew a symbol magic in the air for gravity. The earth movers treads slacken as the spell hit it and Tom howled a "Pull!" This was no drain on his mana. It was a floodgate opening. The crew pulled on the ropes and it turned right side up. He slowly let go of the spell and it lowed down. June was keeping him from swaying too much. The engine started up and the crew chief came over to him.

"Good work wizard. If you come over to my office, I'll write you a check."

Tom tried to follow her and June helped him along. When they got inside, there was different types of chairs for them to sit in. Tom pick out a bean bag and June sat on a chair stool. The chief walked up some steps to sit at eye level with them. Then it hit Tom as she was writing out the check.

"Hey, I can't take a check."

She cursed and ripped it up.

"That's right, your a wizard. I got some hard cash here."

There were some noises as she want below her desk. Walking back round to the front of it, she dropped two thousand in Tom's lap. Thinking he was going to two hundred and not two thousand, but this worked for him to. Before they lift he asked.

"Should I come back tomorrow to see if you need any more help?"

Pulling up the blinds and looking outside, she replied.

"Yeah, I should have something for you to do wizard."
