On The Run From A Dragon
Day Nine: Part One

Day Nine: Part One

Tom let the dead mindflayer drop to the ground. Blood was coming out June's eyes and nose. Pulling her over to him and held on to her, he enveloped her mind in mental mana. June was gone, it was just a hollow body. Tom sat there until the shaking stopped. Most of the power grid was back on line by the time he left and carried her in his arms. He didn't know what to feel as he flew. Tom was not able to say he loved her, but he could say he lost a friend. The morning sun was warn on his face as he touched down on the lawn. A downcast filled him as he walked up to the door. The wait was unbearable after ringing the door bell. June's dad opened the door, looked at him and then stared at June. Jimmy eyes began to mist over.

"Tom, what happened. Who did this?"

In a monotone voice without any emotion Tom replied.

"It was Zaheera. I got careless and stayed in one place for too long."

He handed June to Jimmy. Transferring her Tom's arms to his, he asked.

"Are you going to kill her?"

Tom sighed.

"I killed her, but not the people who sent her."

Before he could turn to leave, Jimmy stopped him.

"Where are you going? What are you going to do?"

Looking at him half turned.

"I'm done running, I'm going to kill them all Sr."

As he took off, Tom could hear June's mom cry out her name. There was a cold hate growing inside him as he flown away. Some of it was for himself. Just after high noon, Tom arrived at his destination. It was the piazza place where this all started. Walking inside, it seemed like they just opened up. A teenager boy greeted Tom form the front desk.

"How may I help you Sr?"

Giving the back area a brisk scan, Tom asked.

"Is your manager-"

After reading his name tag.

"in Victor?"

A wave of terror hit him.

"Oh no, did I mess up your order Sr? I can make-."

Putting up a hand to stop the poor guy.

"No, noting like that. I need to make a special order. Can you go get her?"

Relief washed over him.

"I'll go get her, she's in the back."

Victor wisely made quick feet to go find her. Tom sat down on a grassy bench and waited cars passing by outside. The TV had a news reporter on it.

"A freakish tornado hit the port city of Tampa."

Tom just listened to it and watched some walking by.

"There were also bizarre deaths that could be linked to it, but so far only one major and some minor injuries could be confirmed at this time. We will-."

He turned it off by pulling the plug with gravity. There was two gasps from behind him as the plug hit wall. The kid and his manager were looking at him. Victor rippled with glee.

"You're a wizard?"

This was starting to bug Tom.

"Victor, go get me a glass of water."

Hoping to see more magic he ran back in the kitchen. The local manager was the same kobold who delivered him the piazza that day. She pointed at him.

"You!"

Tom remarked.

"Me!"

Victor came back with the water and delivered it to Tom. The water moved from the cup to hover above his other palm.

"Ok kid. Think about pulling this ball of water to your hands."

He was swirling unease, but did as he was told. It flew to Victor's hands and then dropped to the ground. The young water mage stared down at the puddle of water. Tom got up and gave he a light hit on the arm.

"All in do time."

Reading her name and then telling her.

"Melody, We need to have a talk in your office."
