"Tell Callaly, are we ready for tommorrow?" I asked ArdinKir'ka, who was kneeling to me along with Lusaix.
"Yes, your Majesty, the port has gone through a thorough maintainence check by our men. The cannons are ready to fire and the crags will be the most lethal weapon when it's time." ArdinKir'ka replied.
"Very well then, how is the prisoner?"
"The prisoner seems to not be causing any problems. But I believe we should move the prisoner in case of an accident."
"Normally, Callaly would agree to that, and Callaly wouldn't be here, and Callaly herself would be moving the prisoner deeper inland, but this is a special situation. Callaly will be handling both this scenario and the prisoner. Any further questions?"
"No, your Majesty. We shall proceed as you say." ArdinKir'ka seemed to lowered his head, as if in ease now.
"Anything else you wish to address?"
"I have a report from further inland... They wish to know if we should send a flying tower." Lusaix reported as she hesitated in between her words.
"Deny it. A flying tower would likely be overkill at this point. And none of that should be revealed or the gods might get wind of it. Dealing with them would be noxiously unneccessarily troublesome." I had a bit of an urge to put my hand on my face while saying that.
"Yes your Majesty, we will send word right away." Lusaix bowed then left the room.
"Since there is nothing else, we now can only wait." I said as I closed my eyes for a small moment. I then open them and head up stairs while sending ArdinKir'ka away.
The building I am in is a cresent-shaped structure that acts as a barrier between the crags and what is further inland. Despite saying it's a barrier, it doesn't actually encompass the entire gulf that is between said structure and the crags. The other fortifications attached to the structure helps it encompass it though.
I reached the second floor, and on both sides; of which faces the crags and further inland, there are no walls. There is only a wall infront and behind me, along with some wood columns placed in the interior of this structure.
And, there is another set of stairs, which I go up again after making my way to it. I make it to the top again, and there is no wall once again on one of my sides. Which happens to be the side that faces the crags.
The crags mark the dangerous exit of the port, as they spike up from the sea floor. Some of these crags are made by artificial means, as with the intent of restoring them after their use, and some are natural, as they have never been touched and do not corrode easily from the waters.
The bay within the crags and surrounded by the walled-off land is the centre of our fortified port. And our planned battlefield.
I sat on the chair in the middle of the structure that faces the bay. Next to the chair, is a very large bell-like object specifically for me hangs.
As my perception far exceeds that of any person residing here, I am already aware of the incoming Abyssal that is currently tearing through the seas. Normally their presense would weaken as they make their way here, but I sense no signs of such.
The Abyssal Invasion is more difficult to combat on sea than land. However, Abyssal Invasions are prone to make landfall.
Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.
As they reach land, they then begin evolving into their final form. That is when we strike.
The Abyssal creatures have much durability, as to how, is currently unknown. But their offensive capabilities are greatly diminished as they reach land, and are thus forced to evolve to their final form to restore such capabilities on land.
However, creatures with flight capabilities as reported is simply unheard of. And yet, I do indeed sense an Abyssal creature capable of flight.
Despite this, the creature seems to not be going ahead of the cluster and instead, stays with it. This isn't unprecedented however, as there was once a creature capable of extreme speeds that also stayed with the rest of the Invasion cluster in one of the previous Abyssal Invasions.
I picked up and rang a much small bell on the other side of the chair. I admit that this bell made me quiver a bit. As I the reason to why I can sense the flying abyssal creature, is because it's presence stands from the rest.
After I rang it, I placed it back to where I grabbed it. Which is a copper plate, above a copper pipe which I rung the bell over. Apparently, this copper pipe transmits sound from one room to another.
The copper plate is held in place by the three copper attachments below the copper plate that attaches it to inside the copper plate. The copper pipe goes straight down into the floor.
This structure that I am in, is called Pavillion Rouge Wave. It is made out of water-specialized wood and is resistant to the wear that the ocean and seas bring.
This wood, is called Bronzewood. It as a tree has bronze-colored bark which inside is brown color. The Bronzewood has an interesting property of being more durable when treated in a special process and then used near sea and oceanic settlements.
When exposed to the sea, the treated Bronzewood gains a red coloring and can last longer. It is even more durable the longer it is exposed the the vast waters.
Now, the army stationed at this port is distributed by ArdinKir'ka, so I don't know the exact details in arrangements, but I believe I can put my trust in him as an Executive. And as I implied before, this is the key defensive structure in creating the divide between whats in the ocean from the inland, specifically for what is about to occur.
And is useless for everything else.
My thoughts are interrupted as I hear two sets of footsteps coming up the steps. I look to the side and see someone going up the stairs with a tray. Along with a person that is empty handed, I see clearly even through the wooden railing that can obscure one's vison.
The servant with a tray containing various things stops infront of a door as he reached to the top of the stairs, to which the other servant opened the door and let the servant with his hands full go in. And then follows the servant in as he closes the door behind him.
Losing interest, I look back to the distant horizon as the sun is starting to set. It's white color burns brightly even as it begins to dim.
The door opens with a barely noticable creak. Followed with the two servants from earlier entering my view. One of them came in with a mirror mounted on a small table, the other had set the tray down on the other table and left it by my side.
I checked my drink on the tray. No strange alterations to it.
Taking comfort in that, I looked at the mirror. There, laid an almost completely white creature, with blue eyes, along with the red-brown coloring of the wood behind me.
My white hair was curled into three large loops at each side of my head. Complete with a dull face.
As I've said before, my skin is completely white, that the skin color of a vampire couldn't be compared to such as they still have a little redness. I take my drink as I pass the coming night.
They won't come during the night.
Abyssal Invasion
Occurance: Every 120-125 years.
Cause: Overpopulation in the Abyss.
Affects: Threatens to degrade population and civilization stage.
Origin: Random minimum 120-125 maximum years, Sea.
Description: As there is less room in the Abyssal habitats within the planet, the kings of the depths begin to proactively move the population within the hyper pressurized caverns to the rifts that connect the abyss to the overworld oceans. There, manifests a leader that groups the cluster of fellow invaders under one ideal; Conquest. With their bodies all tempered by the hadopelagic pressure of the seas below, they all wield immense strength and durability. However, there are some that cannot handle the lack of pressure and explode upon reaching the overworld. But that does little to limit these invasions.
