Chapter 132: Stealing from the city lord

Chapter 132: Stealing from the city lord

Liam watched from close by, strain written on his face. He stared at the two fighters, ready to take action.

The fight should enter its hottest phase soon. Rentrasn’ar is completely engrossed in the battle. This is my chance.

Pontrakas and Rentrasn’ar clashed again. A green magical sphere gathering an unbelievable amount of mana exploded, sending even some players at the shore flying.

“ARRHH!”

With a brutal shout, the city lord brought down his axe colliding with the magic. The world lost its color and all noise seemed to vanish.

Liam gritted his teeth. Enduring the pressure he finally commenced his plan. With a flip of his hand an old fishing rod suddenly appeared.

It was the item he received for helping old Gabe.

Liam wasn’t completely idle when he spent time with Serena yesterday. Each time the siblings played together, Serena was happy to discover new ways of playing the game.

Thus, Liam used the opportunity to show her the [Steal] auxiliary skill.

Although many thief-related classes got this skill for free, it didn’t mean others couldn’t learn it. With some time to spend it was easy to reach level 1, meeting the prerequisite for handling Gabe’s fishing rod.

At this moment Liam prayed to all the gods he knew and flicked his wrist gently. A thin, nearly invisible line traveled through the air.

Above the lake the skeleton and demon were still fighting fiercely. A massive axe reached Pontrakas. Barely protecting himself at the last second the liberator was slammed towards the floor, crushing a large boulder to dust.

Rentrasn’ar descended abruptly, chasing his victory. Some trap was suddenly triggered. A tall, black ankh appeared in the air, infested with the aura of hell. A large claw came out of the magical construct, swiping towards Rentrasn’ar.

The demon bellowed angrily, swinging his axe engulfed in dark mana, prepared to overcome all obstacles with brute force.

A massive collision reverberated for miles around the lake. Lava splashed into the air, obscuring the view.

Pontrakas staying on the ground suddenly felt something. He looked upwards but didn’t spot anything.

Liam looked at the skeleton with a tense heart. But fortunately, his fishing line had the effect of evading detection. It sneaked into the lava, arriving behind Rentrasn’ar.

A small pouch dangled from the demon’s trousers, inconspicuous against the large body.

The fishing line whipped over, touching the pouch. A small spark lit up. Suddenly an item was attached to the line. Liam felt a pull, hastily retracting the fishing rod. It was magically rolled up, returning to its owner at a breakneck speed.

A moment later Liam held a small black stone containing an ominous aura in his hands. His body was frozen as he couldn’t believe his luck. He scanned the stone multiple times just to make sure.

Liam let out a long breath. Only when the pressure left his body did he feel how severe it was. But now he could just watch the show before leaving calmly.

Luckily Rentrasn’ar didn’t notice anything amiss as he was caught in the heat of the battle. His axe moved faster and faster, slashing at the black claw.

Its fingers tried to close around the demon but were continuously pushed back. On the ground Pontrakas watched in horror as cracks emerged on his trump card. He hastily held up his hands, providing more mana.

But it was futile. Rentrasn’ar bombarded the claw with wild attacks, pushing it back. Soon one finger was destroyed, shattering in a violent explosion.

With one part gone, the claw’s fate was already sealed. It didn’t hold on much longer, bursting into millions of pieces.

Rentrasn’ar let out a brutal shout, venting his emotions. His head was tilted towards the air and his axe raised high.

However, when he turned back towards the ground to finally end Pontrakas his face looked stupefied. There was no sign of his opponent.

“Black Chain Rebellion, retreat!”

A strained shout echoed in the surroundings. Rentrasn’ar was suddenly consumed by anger. He couldn’t fathom that an infernal would run away from a life and death challenge.

“Poontrakaaas!!”

Countless emotions could be heard in Rentrasn’ar’s voice as he stared at the fleeing figure in the distance.

Pontrakas shook, knowing that his reputation among the infernals would be forever ruined. However, his life didn’t matter but he couldn’t lose the Staff of Melvun or he would be an eternal sinner to the Black Chain Rebellion.

The players around the lava watched the end of the fight with dumbfounded expressions. A few quick ones noticed the skeleton escaping above their heads, hastily throwing out attacks.

However, even a barely alive Pontrakas was not something these players could mess with. A rebound force hit them across space, sending most of them to the graveyard.

Like this the even tended. Rentrasn’ar slaughtered a few members of the Black Chain Rebellion on his way back to the city but quickly lost interest.

The players also walked away with empty hands. However, soon someone would find out how to trigger Pontrakas’s quest. From then on, the fight would repeat every few days.

Liam watched calmly as the commotion ended and the players began to leave. However, he had to curse inwardly since a few curious people stayed.

He didn’t know what they hoped for, annoying the monsters in the lake. But with them staying he didn’t dare to come out. Eventually he even had to grit his teeth in anger while drinking a health potion.

It took another hour until he finally dared to leave. With his orb of flight, he returned to the shore. Without returning to the city, he directly set of for the southern chaotic mountains.

Moving carefully, he avoided all the players and hiked along another secluded mountain path. Soon, he was finally back in the Southern Light Kingdom.

Liam could finally take off his shadow cloak enjoying some liberating fresh air, knowing that he didn’t have to constantly be afraid of getting discovered.

“Hey, are you Bleary Mirage?”

Liam looked at the teen with sparling eyes appearing before him, his face freezing.

With a sigh he shook his head and left at a brisk pace. The teen watched the leaving back with confused eyes before it vanished into the crowd.

Liam found a seclude bench to rest. With his goal achieved he messaged his friends.

Soon, the entire party gathered by a gurgling little fountain in a corner of Duabalis City.

“Mirage! You took quite the time!”, greeted Silver Blade with a joking smile.

“Well, you were quicker than expected.”

“Probably because we had some help. Mirage, this is Final Fend, my brother.”

“Nice to meet you!”

Final Fend happily shook Liam’s hand, pretending to meet for the first time. However, his acting was rather enthusiastic, drawing suspicious gazes.

“Well, seems like you did a good job. And you too, Braag!”

“Don’t mention it, don’t mention it. If you want to thank me, I would prefer if you teach me some tricks!”

“No problem. I was about to bring everyone to train anyways.”

Before Braag could answer, a tired groan could be heard. It was Cyclone who leaned against the fountain with an exhausted expression.

Silver Blade chuckled faintly:

“Cyclone, what’s up with you?”

“It’s so tiring, promoting our guild all day. I just want to go to bed.”

“Really? I always took you for the type who enjoys talking to others.”

“But it’s not the same explaining the same thing over and over again.”

“I agree!”, interrupted Fortune. “I once tried being a streamer and it made me want to bang my head against the wall.”

Fortune’s comment drew laughter from the whole group. But suddenly Liam’s eyes fell on someone quietly staying at the back.

“Hey, Shield? Why are you so quiet? Did something happen?”

“Ahh, I…”

At this moment Cyclone suddenly regained her spirits, exclaiming with a bright smile:

“Oh, right! I met Radiant Shield earlier!”

“Ehm, Cyclone… please…”

“Come one, why so embarrassed? I think it’s cute! Guys, guess what Radiant Shield did?”

The tank wished he could sink into the earth as everyone looked at him with puzzled expressions.

“You’ll never guess! Radiant Shield went around helping newbie players with their quests. He even made quite the name for himself!”
