Witches Cave: Chapter 5

He couldn’t tell how far the creature dragged him, how deep into the earth the monster wanted him to be. But he knew the creature stopped somewhere, it was when it slammed him against the wall and spread his limbs apart. That was the moment he knew he was done for. Ryan tried to manoeuvre his way out of its tight grip, yet the creature in the dark wouldn’t let go.

Ryan couldn’t see anything; he couldn’t tell what the monster of darkness looked like. Yet he could smell it, its rotten breath of death and decay loomed over him. The creature sniffed the young man, Ryan’s fear was a delightful meassma, a scent of a terrified warrior facing their own demise.

‘You’re… different…’ The creature groaned, its wording harsh and drawn out like it was learning how to communicate for the first time. ‘Not like… her… woman with… black hair…’

Believing he would die, Ryan smiled at the creature. ‘You should brush your teeth more often.’ He joked with a toothy smile.

He couldn’t see it, but he felt the creature shift its body around like it was examining him, or trying to understand why a human would say those words to it.

‘A… joke… interesting…’ It hissed, its hot breath on Ryan’s neck. ‘Yes… it should… do… your body… is… weak… controllable…’

Ryan struggled, trying to break free from the monster. ‘I think I am strong enough, partner!’

‘No… but you are… perfect… for our… purpose…’ The creature droned out, its breath hasty yet also excited.

Without any warning, the creature spread Ryan’s fingers out with almost enough force to shatter his hands. A slime-like substance slithered around his fingertips before it started to enter his body by digging under his fingernails, ripping them open so they could make room for the creature invading his body. Ryan screamed, his body singing in agony as the creature entered through his hands, he could feel how it slithered through his muscles, tightened around his finger bones, and strangled his veins. The monster kept creeping into him, reaching to his elbow, making his arms pulsate and bulge as the creature continued to play and examine his body from the inside, violating him, for the creature knew he could do nothing but scream. Ryan’s body would be used, to be toyed with and manipulated for its own purpose and dark curiosity.

Then a beam of light melted the creature of darkness before Ryan’s eyes, giving him a glimpse of its round eyeless skull before it turned to dust, a hint of what its true appearance was before the spirit slayed it. Ryan fell to the ground, convulsing because the remnants of the creature were still inside of him, fighting for control of his body.

The reptile stood over Ryan and examined his body, noticing his arms were slowly turning black Jackson pulled out his surgical kit to prepare to amputate both of Ryan’s arms to hopefully save his life. From a glance, he could see his hands were mangled and his fingers leaked out a yellow pus as his body tried to fight the monster off as if it was an infection.

Ryan wanted to scream, to tell the reptile to just kill him as he felt it slivering in and around his chest. Yet the spirit stopped the reptile from reaching for his pistol with a calm hand that rested on his left shoulder. With a nod, the spirit went on their knees and rested a hand on Ryan’s chest. The spirit of light gave the young man a calmed smile, one to tell Ryan that everything would be okay, that it would help him. A surge of light emanated inside of him, revealing the insides of his body and how the monster of darkness inside slowly died by the spirit’s light. Once the spirit was finished, Jackson wasted no time bandaging Ryan’s hands and cleaning his wounds.

‘Huh, took you long enough.’ Ryan chuckled before he turned to his right to see a black skeleton next to him, its skull warped like it was imploded from the inside. ‘I assume we found our witch.’

Jackson didn’t reply, what was important to him was getting Ryan out of the cave to get immediate medical attention. Seeing that Ryan was too weak to stand on his own the reptile lifted Ryan and carried him on his shoulders. The young man couldn’t help but smile as he saw his hat attached to Jackson’s belt. So, the lizard does have a heart after all, he told himself.

While they made it out of the cave, Jackson rested Ryan against a tree as he called the Order about the mission and the fate of the witch. Ryan looked at his hands to see how badly injured they were and wondered how long he would recover before his next mission. He turned to the spirit to thank it, but it vanished. Its purpose served and its presence is no longer necessary. ‘Disappearing act, huh? You sly dog.’ Ryan mumbled under his breath before the reptile turned around to see the spirit had disappeared.

‘Did it say anything?’ Jackson questioned.

Ryan shook his head, ‘nah, it kept quiet. A bit like you honestly, always silent and not talking much.’

The reptile glanced at Ryan, his cold exterior made Ryan feel slightly uneasy around him. Though to Ryan, he was at least glad that they survived the mission, he could only hope that the injuries he endured were enough to justify a long break from any mission in the future.
