Under the Streetlight: Chapter 2

A week went by, Emma was silent as she pondered.

No new knowledge, no new breakthrough, all false.

The secret, how it lingered near, yet was so far away.

She played with her long black hair, trying to find joy.

‘All false, all myth, the secret must be some fabrication.’

‘No,’ she said to herself, she knew there were more.

‘It had to make sense, where did all the souls linger?’

‘A dimension, a place beyond, the source of power?’

‘What gave power to life, what sparked every heart?’

She asked and asked, only one conclusion was sound.

Magic, it was true; it had to be magic; it had to be.

Death beyond was an illusion, a figment of dreams.

But her daze was broken, the TV blurred with news.

The DOE were formed, heroes of power all united.

In Brazil, a siege took place, hostages were all dead.

It reminded her, the Cascade, the world breaking.

How it changed, how the world became very new.

How the world also became corrupted, it made sense.

The creatures in Germany, how the horrors look real.

Wide smiles, small eyes, they hid under their beds.

‘Not fake, all real, it had to be so; it had to be true.’

She realised there, magic had to be real, ‘but is it?’

Emma tried to find reason, only to be left confused.

A headache that burned ran through her weak mind.

Sickening madness, crazed illusions of untold pain.

All part of the plan, to change her humanistic form.

Outside of her home, under the light its lips smiled.

Chitta chatter, its form changed to blend with others.

Man or woman, it cared little; it is only flesh to wear.

It watched how its secret warped her fragile mind.

A week went by, progress was made, now it waited.

Excited, the creature left its streetlight; it had desires.

It entered her apartment building; it found her home.

The door was ajar; it peered in to look inside and see.

And see it did, scribbles and notes littered her home.

Ideas and theories, she tried to understand but can’t.

All true and false, the knowledge of magic hurts her.

The creature was pleased, but she needed a hand.

Without her knowing, it entered her home as a fly.

It came to her ear to whisper a secret to her again.

Its words were wonder, but its voice was venomous.

‘The world is dying, the earth couldn’t handle it all.’

It spoke of the planet, how it could no longer hold.

How it’s slowly breaking, overwhelmed by every soul.

It told her of the Cascade, how it was a big mistake.

How a man who sought revenge, doomed them all.

There was a device, one to collect every dead soul.

The device was meant to save the world, now it can’t.

It explained about the Cascade, how it changed some.

It also showed how the Cascade made new horrors.

A new-age came to the world, all because of one man.

One man, a product of humanities strength and flaws.

Once the creature told her secrets, it made its way out.

It was finished, yet it knew it must wait for results.

One month, it knew it must return, one month for her.
