Chapter 31 - The Story of the Pink Invader

The girls of the club took the mysterious stalker back with them to the girl’s dorm for questioning, while the guys retired for the night. They surround her on the couch, Yuuri breaking the silence with an outburst.

“What exactly is your deal? Who are you and why did you ruin my d- our plan of action?”

“I could feel th’ emotions comin’ off yew two, it seemed laik fun ta come an’ mess wicha.” She looks down. “I didn’t mean ta totally ruin ya date.”

“I-it’s fine, it wasn’t a real date.” Yuuri says. “If only it was…”

“What do you mean you could feel the emotions? You some sorta empath?” Cerys questions.

The pink haired girl looks at Yuuri, then at Cerys. “I can feel tha love in tha air. It’s laik radio waves an’ I’m an antenna. Ah was lookin’ fer feelings to use in mah magic.”

Katsuki sighs. “Sure, whatever. So how’d you mess with the photo?”

“And what the hell are you talking about?”, Akina adds on.

“Love. Tha opposite of what yer sendin’ out, silverhair. An’ the pitchas I jus’ used a stamp of mah own before they got there. I ain’t gonna tell ya anymor’n tha’. It’d ruin th’ surprise.”

“So you put some sort of trap that would just automatically place them then?” Katsuki ponders. “I’ve never heard of any kind of magic like that.”

“Aww, ya ruined tha mystery. How’dja know there was a magic trap on it? Normal people shouldn’t be knowin’ that much ‘bout magic.”

Yuuri laughs. “Normal people? You are aware we’re at Miyafuji, right?”

Cerys elbows her. “You are normal, though.”

Katsuki interrupts the two. “She’s right, but only one of us here knows anything about magic.”

“Ain’t none of y’all know about my kinda magic. It ain’t taught in no classroom or book or nothin’. Not unless ya get the special courses.”

Cerys gives the girl an aggravated look. “You’re an annoying person. If you can’t answer these questions then whatever, but what’s your name?”

“Mari Hoshino, an’ bein’ an annoyin’ stick in tha mud jus’ comes with the territory of bein’ a chaos magician.”

Katsuki groans. Yuuri turns to look at her. “Hm, what’s wrong?”

“Chaos mages are...well they’re uh, a little kooky.”

“You’re calling someone else a kook? Can you explain that any better?”

“I’d rather kill myself than do that.”

“Ah prefer kinky tah kooky, thank ya very much. I could give ya the little death, girl. Need ta recharge mah mana anyway.

Yuuri blushes and looks at Mari. “W-what the hell is wrong with you?”

“Nothin’ that ain’t wrong with anyone else.” Mari sniffs at Yuuri . “Ya have a cat? Because I can smell pussy all over ya.”

Yuuri’s blush darkens. “W-w-what kind of person just...says things like that?!”

Cerys steps in between the two. “Hey, that’s a bit much, even for me. Knock that off.”

“Ah’d ratha knock ya socks off.”

Katsuki buries her face in her hands. “I wanna die.”

“So you’re some kinda sex pervert, is that it?” Akina crosses her arms and grunts. “Is that how you power your magic or is it just a side effect?’

“Ding ding. Mah mana’s refilled by bein’ a cute little girl doin’ dirty little thangs. An’ when a mage gets low on mana, thangs can get… desperate. ”

“Pres, why’d we have to bring her here?”

“It was going to be past curfew if we spent any more time at the mall, so we had to take her with us if we wanted to do this.”

“I don’t want to do this anymore.”

“Me neither.”

Yuuri breaks out of her embarrassed state. “Hey, wait. You’re a Miyafuji student aren’t you? Why haven’t we seen you before? What club are you in?”

Katsuki looks at Mari. “Actually yeah, I’ve never seen you in the hallways even.”

“Ahm in the goin’ home club. I go home, stayin’ away from everyone. An’ I know tha’ secret passages ta get ‘round tha school and avoid all the people in tha hallways.” Mari says with a tinge of sadness in her voice.

Cerys scoffs. “That’s a lot of work just to hide from people. I can’t imagine going through maintenance just to avoid saying hi to someone.”

“Some days ya just don’t feel like givin’ out good mornin’s. Or most tha days, really.” A somewhat angry frown crosses her face.

“So you were playing around at the mall to try to vacuum up some strong feelings to recharge?” Akina asks.

“Yeh. I can’t charge mahself in public, Ah’d be arrested.”

“Surely there are other ways to do that.”

“Ah can wait, but tha’s borin’.”

The air is thick with embarrassment and confusion. No one can bring themselves to ask anything else of Mari.

Yuuri clears her throat. “Well, if that’s all, then don’t do it again. You can leave now.”

“Don’t mind if ah do.”

The door to the common room opens slowly. “S-senpai, I wanted to apologize for how I ran off like that. I was just-”

Kirika’s eyes lock onto Mari. “M-Maria?”

“Kiricchi!”

As Mari and Kirika greet each other with a hug, the rest of the club look at each other, visibly confused.

“Um… You two know each other?” Yuuri asks. The two break off the hug, Kirika linking her arm with Mari before turning to the others.

“Y-Yeah! Maria… Uh… Mari, is my bestest friend in the world! We’re super best friends forever, haha. At least I hope we are…” Kirika turns her head to Mari, seeking approval. She nods, with an approving “Un!”, and so Kirika continues. “We went to elementary school together! She was my upperclassman but she was never-” Kirika pauses, “We were really close to each other is all. And close to not many other people, I guess. The other kids were pretty mean, about my ears and about Mari’s…” Kirika pauses again, glancing at Mari who is smiling with her eyes closed, a slight twitch noticeable. “Well, anyway, kids are mean and Mari always stood up for me! My guardian angel, my very own Sancta Maria.” Kirika giggles.

“Un! N’also Papa is close wit’ Kiricchi’s papa n’ they met up often so we usedta have sleepovers every month or so! Ah know everythin’ about tha ‘Little Bat’ here.” Mari then breaks the arm link, instead picking up Kirika in a great bear hug and spinning her around.

“I told you not to call me that!” Kirika protests, vainly. “Anyway, what are you doing around here?” She pauses, before her face breaks out into a big smile. “You came all this way to see your best friend in the whole universe right?! Such a good friend, I love you Mari!”

“Eheheh… Luv yew too Kiricchi!” She smiles at Kirika, and scratches the back of her head. “Well, uh, ah go t’ school at Miyafuji too.”

“Eh? Since when? Do you have a club yet? Forget about that club, you should join my club! Right Senpai, she can join right?” Kirika excitedly jumps up and down, grabbing Mari’s hands.

"Well, mah club was tha getting home club, so ahd be happy ta switch ta bein in a club wicha, Kirika." She looks at the others. “If y'all will have me of course.”

Yuuri looks at Katsuki with a look that gives away the pity she’s feeling. Katsuki turns towards Akina and Cerys. The two are shaking their heads and mouthing “No.” in her direction.

“Ah, um...well…”

Yuuri slides in front of Katsuki with a pout and whispers, “C’mon, she’s clearly in need of friends. You were in the same position yourself not too long ago.”

“T-that’s a low blow and you know it.” Katsuki sighs, then speaks up. “I guess it’s fine, we are a bunch of weirdos already after all.”

Kirika and Mari hold hands and jump up. “Yay!”

Akina leaves to go to bed, and Cerys grumbles before doing the same.
