After their ecstatic pass on their Botilish exam, a new chapter in their life had just begun. They met Yoki back at the ground floor of building 101 and it was time to discuss the next test they are required to accomplish.
‘Harry, Milo, so the next test you both need to complete is number three: Acquire a job to make a living during the duration of the stay.’ Yoki stated.
‘Okay, so do you have some jobs for us or do we need to find one ourselves?’ Harry questioned cautiously in Botilish knowing that Yoki will not be able to translate into English for them.
‘Well, I help you guys find some options, however ultimately it's up to you to decide which one would be most suitable for you guys.’ Yoki replied.
‘Right, so are there any jobs that are space engineering related?’ Harry asked.
‘Ah let me just double check if that’s an available option.’ Yoki replied as he used his built-in digital screen to conduct a thorough search.
‘Sure go ahead.’ Harry replied as Yoki made a beeping sound.
‘Unfortunately, there aren't any space related jobs available. But there are factory makers, cleaning, or delivering jobs available right now. It’s stating that those are the ones that are highly in demand. Would you guys be interested in any of these fields?’ Yoki questioned.
‘Umm, we would need to think about it. Do we need to choose the same job or can we work in separate fields?’ Harry asked.
‘Either of those is fine.’ Yoki replied.
‘Can we have a few minutes to discuss this in private?’ Harry asked.
‘Yes, you guys can have ten to fifteen minutes, I’ll head to the waiting area now. Just inform me when you guys have made a decision.’ Yoki responded as he walked into the distance.
‘Alright, thank you Yoki.’ Harry replied as he sat down to talk about this with Milo.
‘Ah Milo, did you thoroughly understand what Yoki mentioned before?’ Harry asked in English.
‘Umm, I think I only got half of what he said. Gosh, it’s still very challenging to understand Botilish without a translator now. So Yoki mentioned something about us needing to get a job? Is that right?’ Milo questioned in uncertainty.
‘Yes, that's correct. I know it's hard now but we really just need to push through. It will get better as we expose ourselves more to the social environment. So Yoki had brought up a few options where we can choose to get a job in cleaning, delivering, or factory making. Which one are you most interested in?’ Harry asked.
‘Uhh, I have absolutely no experience at all in those areas and so do you. How are we supposed to actually do a good job there?’ Milo questioned back.
‘Well, it's our only hope to find a way back. We have nothing right now and we might as well just leave if we can’t find a job here. I think I might choose to become a delivery man. Would you want to do the same?’ Harry asked.
‘Hmm you’re right. At least it’s not forever right, just until we can find a way out. I’m leaning towards working at the factory. I’m just not feeling like running here and here every day you know.’ Milo replied as he sighed.
‘I understand, well if you’re ready we can go tell Yoki.’ Harry asked.
‘Yeah I think so.’ Milo responded.
‘Cool, let’s go find Yoki then.’ Harry replied as they stood up and walked into the waiting area.
‘Um Yoki, so we have decided to get a job in the fields you have provided for us. I will take the delivery job and Milo wants to take a job in the factory.’ Harry stated.
‘Ah great! Thanks for letting me know. I will go make those arrangements for you both and just to let you know there will be an interview required for both jobs.’ Yoki replied.
‘Right I see, so we um don’t really have any experience in those fields, is that alright?’ Harry asked.
‘Yes that’s fine, we can find someone to help assist with any difficulties you guys may encounter and you both should be able to pick up those jobs in no time.’ Yoki replied.
‘Ah thanks for believing in us! So when do we start?’ Milo asked.
‘As I mentioned before, I will take you both to the agency that conducts interviews for these positions and they will take some time to let you know if you got the role or not.’ Yoki responded.
‘Sounds good, so is there a specific place where interviews are conducted or something?’ Milo questioned in a confused manner.
‘Yes, we conduct all interviews at the job interview department. I’ll take you both there right now.’ Yoki replied.
‘Oh I see, that’s so different. Back on Earth, we used to go directly to the company to undertake the interview. I’ve never heard of an interview department in my life up until now.’ Milo chuckled.
‘Well that has always been how our city conducts job interviews, please follow me.’ Yoki replied.
‘Sure, just one last question, do we need a resume to apply for the positions?’ Harry asked.
‘Well it would be best if you two can provide your resumes.’ Yoki replied.
‘Right, I think we both have it saved on our phones, but we don’t have any experience in those areas we are applying for.’ Harry replied.
‘That shouldn’t be a big problem, I’ll explain your situation to the recruiters and they should be able to understand.’ Yoki responded.
‘Thanks a lot!’ Harry replied.’
As Harry and Milo both followed Yoki back to the main building, they took the lift to level 399 where the interviews would be conducted. Once they entered level 399, Milo was amazed at the uniformity of the setting. There were hundreds of tables allocated to each field of study and the majority of them had an interviewer sitting with an interviewee. It looked more complicated than an endless maze!
‘Wow, this place is so oriented yet complicated at the same time!’ Milo gasped.
‘Yeah, it does get a little confusing at first especially when it's your first time here. Please follow me to the section where you guys will be interviewed.’ Yoki stated.
‘Sure, are we able to get an interview today?’ Milo asked.
‘Not sure, it’s usually very busy here but I’ll try my best to help you both get one today.’ Yoki replied.
‘Awesome, thanks, we really appreciate that!’ Milo replied as they walked towards the nearest corner where Delivering & Factory were written big bold letters.
‘Please wait here, I’ll go have a chat with the interview manager about your situation. Is that alright?’ Yoki asked.
‘Sure, no problem at all!’ Harry replied.
As Yoki left, Milo and Harry skimmed their eyes across the room. Not a single human was to be seen. They felt like complete outsiders here. Shortly after ten minutes, Yoki came back with another cyborg who looked like a worker from this department.
‘Hello there, I see you guys have come here to apply for a job. Is that correct?’ Mr. Quinz asked.
‘Yes, that's right and you are?’ Harry replied.
‘Oh my apologies, I’m Mr. Quinz, one of the managers here.’ Mr. Quinz replied.
‘Nice to meet you Mr. Quinz. I’m Harry and this is Milo. So are there any available times where we can undertake an interview?’ Harry asked.
‘Ah yes, Yoki has told me about your circumstances, we can offer you both an interview each this afternoon. There’s an available slot for your position at three P.M. and Milo you can sit yours at half past three.’ Mr. Quinz replied.
‘Great thank you very much. We didn’t expect to get an interview in such a short amount of time,’ Harry replied.
‘No worries! Could I have both of your resumes first? Just to have a quick look. It’s not mandatory but it would definitely be beneficial to have a look at your previous experiences.’ Mr Quinz replied.
‘Sure, it is on our phones though. Do you want us to send it through digitally?’ Harry asked.
‘Yes that would be lovely. We have an automatic scan feature where you guys can open the resume file and it will directly scan it onto our system.’ Mr. Quinz stated.
‘Wow that sounds cool, we’ve never heard of anything like this before.’ Milo replied as he opened his resume page and took his phone over to Mr. Quinz.
‘Alrighty, the scan has been completed. You guys are free to go now and come back at three P.M. for your interviews.’ Mr. Quinz replied.
‘Wow, that was super fast! It took less than a second.’ Milo replied.
‘Thank you, we will be back soon.’ Harry commented.
‘So where should we go now?’ Milo asked in English as they headed back towards the lift.
‘It’s twelve forty-eight P.M. right now, I reckon we should find a place to have some lunch first and head back here.’ Harry replied.
‘Yeah same, we can discuss this during lunch as well.’ Milo added as they took the lift down to level 306 where the fancy cafeteria is located.
‘Welcome guys, I think I’ve seen you both a week or so ago. What would you like to order today?’ Zita asked.
‘Yes, we remember you as well! Can I please have the Lozini Planz?’ Harry replied.
‘Uhh, I think I’ll take the Zonim Loco please.’ Milo replied.
‘Sure, anything else?’ Zita asked.
‘That’s all for now thank you.’ Harry replied.
‘Thank you! I’ll be back with your orders very soon.’ Zita replied as she left their table.
‘So Milo, are you ready for your interview this afternoon?’ Harry asked back in English.
‘Uhh I really don’t know, I mean I haven't done any factory work before and I don’t know what position they are seeking for as well.’ Milo replied.
‘Ah I understand, I think that you should be fine though. Just be yourself and you can ask them any questions regarding the job if you're unsure. At the end of the day, if you don’t want to take the offer, it's fine as well.’ Harry replied.
‘Thanks for that Harry, I’ll try my best to do the job if I get accepted since we need to work together in order to complete our mission right. How are you feeling for your interview?’ Milo asked.
‘I’m feeling good overall, I think whatever the outcome is today, we should be happy that at least we tried our best.’ Harry replied.
‘Alright, here is the Lozini Planz for you and the Zonim Loco for you. If there’s anything else you need, please feel free to ask.’ Zita commented and she served both Harry and Milo their dishes.
‘Thank you, we will!’ Harry replied.
‘Thanks!’ Milo replied.
‘By the way, did you know what you ordered?’ Milo asked.
‘Um, sort of, remember Mr. Zigi did teach us some menu items during our Botilish learning period.’ Harry replied.
‘Yeah but I totally guessed this one though. I just didn’t want to look bad considering that Yoki isn’t here to translate for us.’ Milo chuckled.
‘Well I hope yours tastes as good as it looks.’ Harry replied as he looked at Milo’s dish.
‘I hope so too, it looks like an orange circular blob of jelly-like substance. Oh I really miss the foods that we have back on Earth.’ Milo replied as he sighed.
‘I know, but it’s the best we have for now. Might as well take a small bite first. Mine tastes good though. I think all the foods here are jelly-like but do taste different from each one.’ Harry replied.
‘Yeah I guess, woah mine tastes like an orange! I love oranges!’ Milo blurted as he took a bite of the dish.
‘See, it's not always as bad as it seems to be! Remember, always don't judge a book by its cover.’ Harry replied.
‘I sure will!’ Milo added.
They took the next couple of minutes finishing their meals and they headed off back to level 399 for the interview. They both waited there until three P.M. when Harry was called into the interview room.
‘Harry, can you please come in with me?’ Mr. Zaro requested.
‘Sure.’ Harry replied.
‘Goodluck Harry!’ Milo whispered.
‘Alright Harry, please take a seat. I’m Mr. Zaro and I will be conducting this interview today for the delivering position you applied for. Please tell me a little more about yourself.’ Mr. Zaro requested.
‘Great to meet you Mr. Zaro. My name is Harry Quinto and I’m not sure if anyone has told you about my situation. I was originally a space traveller from Earth, however I had some complications on the way in our mission, that’s why I landed in Botilianic City. Anyways, I know that my career so far has not much to do with delivering, however I am a fast learner and many of my skills are transferable towards this position.’ Harry replied.
‘Ah I see, so do you have any experience driving a vehicle?’ Mr. Zaro asked.
‘Yes I do have many years of experience driving a car back on Earth and also driving spaceships. I’m not sure what vehicle I’ll be required to drive for this job, would you be able to inform me a little more?’ Harry replied.
‘Sure, so in our city the more vehicle we operate on is a space drone and for this job in particular that’s the vehicle you will be required to deliver items using. Are you familiar with this vehicle?’ Mr. Zaro questioned.
‘I’ve never operated on a space drone before, I assume it's similar to a spaceship however it has a much slower speed anny possibly a similar size as a car. Is that right? I have seen space drones in this city before.’ Harry asked.
‘I’m not too sure since I’ve never seen a car nor a spaceship before. However, I do think you need to acquire a driver's licence for space drones before getting the job. We can still continue with this interview if you’re still keen for this position.’ Mr. Zaro replied.
‘Oh I see, and yes we can continue.’ Harry replied.
‘Sure, so how would you handle unexpected delays during a time-sensitive delivery?’ Mr. Zaro questioned.
‘Well depending on the situation, for instance if there’s an issue with my space drone, I will definitely first call a mechanic to help fix the problem. I will then let my supervisor know and check with another driver if they could deliver the package in time.’ Harry responded.
‘Alright, so how would you handle an angry customer?’ Mr. Zaro asked.
‘Well, I will first try to ask them what they are unhappy about and explain whatever they might be confused about to hopefully solve the situation. I will also mention a professional voice and not let my emotions get the better of me.’ Harry replied.
‘Great, how would you handle a mistake you have made delivering an item?’ Mr. Zaro questioned.
‘I would first inform the customer of the mistake I’ve made and try my best to resolve the problem on my own. If this doesn’t work out, I will let my supervisor know and let them help me solve the situation if needed.’ Harry replied.
‘Okay, so what would you consider as good customer service?’ Mr. Zaro asked.
‘I would say good customer service is making sure the customer receives the product on time, everytime. Also delivering the right parcels to the right places is another major one as well as making sure parcels are not damaged once they are delivered.’ Harry replied.
‘Awesome, just one last question! Why should we hire you as a driver?’ Mr. Zaro questioned.
‘You should hire me because I’m fast working, I’m also very adaptive to changes such as where there is a new product needed to be delivered. I can manage to fit that into my schedule without any delays on the others. In addition, I’m keen on handling disputes with customers and will be willing to help resolve the problem.’ Harry replied.
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
‘Now, do you have any questions for us?’ Mr. Zaro asked.
‘Ah yes, so does this company offer a program where we can learn driving a space drone?’ Harry asked.
‘Unfortunately we don’t, you’ll need to find a driving centre where they specialise in space drone driving lessons.’ Mr. Zaro replied.
‘Right I see, so what does a typical day look like for someone in my role position?’ Harry asked.
‘Good question, so you will have a fixed timetable where you start at seven A.M. to five P.M. and have a one hour lunch break in between. We will automatically send orders that are the closest from your location and you will need to make the delivery.’ Mr. Zaro stated.
‘Thats cool, thank you! That’s all from me.’ Harry replied.
‘Well thank you very much Harry for taking this interview. Here is the end of the interview process and you may take a seat outside.’ Mr. Zaro commanded.
‘So how can I hear back from you once you guys have made a decision?’ Harry asked.
‘I’ll send a text message to your phone number or give you a call when you’re available.’ Mr. Zaro replied.
‘Sure, thanks again. I look forward to hearing back from you soon!’ Harry replied as he exited the interview room.
‘Harry! How was it?’ Milo questioned.
‘I think it went well overall, I just need to first get a space drone licence so I can have a vehicle to operate on.’ Harry replied as he walked towards Milo.
‘Oh what’s a space drone licence?’ Milo asked.
‘It's like a drivers licence but for space drones, you remember the ones we saw flying outside these buildings. I’ll tell you more later, it's half past three already, I think they might call you anytime soon for your interview.’ Harry replied.
‘Right, was the interview easy?’ Milo asked.
‘It’s pretty similar to interviews back on Earth but you will need to speak all in Botilish otherwise they will not understand you.’ Harry replied.
‘Alright cool, I guess it's my turn, wish me luck!’ Milo commented.
‘Good luck Milo, you’ll do great!’ Harry encouraged.
‘Milo Quinto, please come in with me.’ Mr. Emiz requested.
‘Yes sure, I’m coming!’ Milo replied as he walked towards him.
‘Please take a seat, I’m Mr. Emiz and I will be interviewing you for a factory worker position at FAC. Is that correct?’ Mr. Emiz asked.
‘Yes, that's right.’ Milo replied
‘Alright, so can you tell me about yourself?’ Mr. Emiz requested.
‘Uh sure, so my name is Milo Quinto and you may see that I look different from all of you guys on this planet since I’m actually a human from Earth and also was a space traveller under the supervision of my older brother. We landed in Botilanic City by accident and I’m now seeking a factory worker position as I’m coachable and are willing to follow instructions carefully and promptly. I think that my skills will be a great fit into your team.’ Milo replied.
‘Ah I see, so why are you interested in this role?’ Mr. Emiz asked.
‘Well, I feel that this role is a perfect match with my personality. I tend to work best under instructions and will go above and beyond the expectation to help the business grow and maintain an efficient pace.’ Milo replied.
‘Right, can you tell me a little more about what qualities a factory worker needs to be successful?’ Mr. Emiz questioned.
‘As I’m not sure about what specific position I will be in at FAC, but from a general perspective I’d say flexibility is a key skill as a factory worker is to perform a variety of different tasks ranging from machine packaging to assembly. Also punctuality is also an important one as you must be alert at all times in order to maintain an efficient pace at work.’ Milo replied.
‘Great, so what do you think is the biggest challenge that you foresee in this role?’ Mr. Emiz asked.
‘Um, that’s a tough question. I would say that making sure that all orders and packaging are correct will be a major challenge as workers tend to work at a fast pace, hence it is quite easy for orders to get mixed up.’ Milo replied.
‘Right, now can you work under pressure?’ Mr. Emiz questioned.
‘I would say that it's more based on the circumstance I’m under rather than the pressure I’m under. I believe that if any challenges are addressed appropriately with care, then they will be less stressful. I know that I work better under pressure as it helps me increase productivity and motivates me further to succeed in this role.’ Milo replied.
‘So are you willing to work over-time or at odd hours?’ Mr. Emiz questioned.
‘Uh as a worker, I am willing to work some extra time on occasion. I used to be alert for days straight when I’m on missions in space. However, I assume such work like this is not done on a regular basis and that I would be fairly compensated based on the work I give.’ Milo replied.
‘That’s right you indeed will, so what kind of mindset would you have if you were in this role?’ Mr. Emiz questioned.
‘Well I would say that time consciousness is a key mindset to have when working in a factory position. By being time sensitive, I believe that it will definitely increase the accuracy and productivity of the production line.’ Milo replied.
‘Well, that’s all I have to ask you, do you have any questions for us?’ Mr. Emiz asked.
‘Ah yes, work kind of position would I be in if I got this role?’ Milo questioned.
‘You will be working with the production line where you will help with packaging and monitoring machinery on site.’ Mr. Emiz replied.
‘Alright thanks for clarifying. So can you walk me through what timeframe I will be working on a typical day?’ Milo asked.
‘Sure, so you will start work at seven A.M. and finish around five P.M. depending on the day. There may be extra shifts here and there occasionally, however you will be compensated fairly during those times. There will also be a one hour lunch break in between the work day.’ Mr. Emiz replied.
‘Right I see, well that’s it from me. Thank you very much for taking your time to conduct this interview and I look forward to hearing back from you.’ Milo commented.
‘Thank you Milo, I sure will keep you informed. You may leave the interview room now.’ Mr. Emiz replied.
‘Thanks again, bye!’ Milo stated as he waved goodbye to Mr. Emiz.
‘Milo! How did it go?’ Harry questioned.
‘I think it went quite well today, the questions weren’t too hard as well.’ Milo replied.
‘That’s great to hear! I think you definitely have it in the bag.’ Harry replied.
‘Well you never know!’ Milo blurted.
‘So should we go find Yoki now? I don’t think we need to sit here and wait anymore.’ Harry suggested.
‘Yeah I think so, let's go then.’ Milo replied as they walked towards the waiting room to find Yoki.
‘Yoki! We have completed both of our interviews, what should we do now?’ Harry asked.
‘Well, first of all congrats! I think you guys can have the afternoon to yourselves or I could give you both a mini tour of this building if you like.’ Yoki suggested.
‘So do you know how long does it usually take to hear back from our recruiters?’ Harry asked.
‘It really depends on them but I would say in the next one to seven days.’ Yoki replied.
‘Can we do the mini tour this afternoon?’ Milo asked.
‘Sure, if you guys want to. I do have the afternoon off.’ Yoki replied.
‘Yoki, uh I do need to go get a space drone licence for my delivering job if I get that of course, but do you know a place where I can get that?’ Harry asked.
‘Ah yes I do, if you are not in such a hurry, I can take you there tomorrow morning.’ Yoki replied.
‘Sure if you are free tomorrow as well, we can do the tour today otherwise I think this would be more important.’ Harry replied.
‘Just let me double check.’ Yoki replied.
‘Sure.’ Harry replied.
‘I think it might be a little tight for tomorrow. I’ll need to rearrange my schedule to fit this in. How about we go to the space drone driving centre first and we can take the tour another time.’ Yoki suggested.
‘Yeah that sounds good to me, you okay with that Milo?’ Harry questioned.
‘Yes, just do whatever is more important first.’ Milo replied.
‘Alright, so where is the space drone driving centre?’ Harry asked.
‘It’s not too far from here actually, but is in another building. Let me calculate the route to SDDC.’ Yoki replied.
‘Right so will I need to take driving lessons first or pass any tests there?’ Harry asked.
‘Yes, that's correct. I don’t know all the details but we will figure out what is required once we get there. It’s about a fifteen minute walk from here.’ Yoki replied.
‘That’s not far, let's head there then.’ Harry replied.
They both followed Yoki’s lead to exit this building into another one. On the way there, they could see many space drones flying in and out of the SDDC that came in all shapes and sizes. As they entered, Yoki walked towards the front desk.
‘Hi, we would like to obtain a SD licence. What are the requirements for this?’ Yoki asked.
‘You will need to pass a general knowledge test first and pass a driving test as well.’ Konzi replied.
‘So when can I get started?’ Harry asked.
‘Well, I can give you some resources to study first, whenever you are ready you can come back and take the test. After you have passed, you will need to obtain fifty hours of supervised driving before you can take the driving test.’ Konzi explained.
‘Alright sounds good, but I’m kind of in a hurry though. What’s the fastest someone has completed both tests and got their licence?’ Harry asked.
‘Well everyone is different, I would say the usual is 1 month. However it is possible to complete it in a shorter time frame.’ Konzi replied.
‘Right I see, so I guess I’ll take these books home to study first and come back right. Will I be assigned a driving instructor or do I need to find one?’ Harry inquired.
‘We do offer both, whichever one is more suitable you can go for that.’ Konzi replied.
‘Sounds great, thank you!’ Harry replied as they left the centre.
‘So I think you guys should get an early rest and study for the knowledge test, I’ll need to head back as well. Just call me if you need anything.’ Yoki replied.
‘Sure, thank you Yoki!’ Harry replied as he waved goodbye to him.
‘So should we head back to the hotel now?’ Milo asked.
‘Well I guess so, do you want to study for the SD test as well?’ Harry asked.
‘Uh I’m not sure right now, it depends on the job I guess. If it's far away from here then I would need to. But considering that you might need some more time to get the delivery job, I think I need to get the factory job first so one of us can help make a living right now.’ Milo replied.
‘Yeah thinking about this now, you do have a good point!’ Harry commented.
‘I reckon that we should take it one step at a time. That way we have a clear mind on what to complete.’ Milo suggested.
‘I agree, well let’s head back to study for the knowledge test.’ Harry replied as they entered building 101 and headed back to their hotel room.
As Harry opened the SD driver knowledge book, it looked much more complicated than he thought. As he flipped through the pages, luckily he remembered that some parts were similar to spaceship training. The challenging part was still to understand everything since it's written all in Botilish.
‘How long do you reckon we can finish learning this book?’ Milo questioned.
‘Well as long as we can grasp the concepts then I think maybe just a couple of days would be fine.’ Harry replied.
‘Yeah I think I might learn to drive as well since we have no idea if the recruiters will get back to us anytime soon, it would be beneficial for both of us.’ Milo stated.
‘Good idea.’ Harry replied.
‘Harry, can I ask something that's unrelated to this?’ Milo questioned.
‘Sure, go ahead.’ Harry replied.
‘Do you think we will reside on this planet forever or will we be able to find a way home?’ Milo asked.
‘We have come so far now, I can’t predict the future but I will say that our mission is definitely to get back to Earth as soon as possible. However, right now we have these set tests that are required to be completed before we can think about a plan to head back.’ Harry replied.
‘I just really miss home right now and I’m sure that everyone in our family is worried about us too. But you’re right, we just need to get through this so we can create a stable plan.’ Milo added.
As Harry and Milo both spent the rest of the afternoon studying for the SD driver's knowledge test, they had managed to learn the entire book in one day. The next morning, Harry’s phone call woke him up.
‘Hello?’ Harry murmured as he was barely awake.
‘Hi, this is Mr. Quinz speaking, are you Harry Quinto?’ Mr. Quinz asked.
‘Yes, yes sorry I was still sleeping.’ Harry replied.
‘Ah I hope I didn’t disturb you. I was calling to inform you that at the moment we do require someone who has experience with driving space drones as it's needed in order to do the job. However we are very pleased with your application and interview, hence we have decided to hold your position until you have obtained a SD drivers licence.’ Mr. Quinz explained.
‘I totally understand, thank you very much for holding my position. Does that mean I can come back after I have passed the driving test?’ Harry questioned.
‘Yes, that’s correct. We can discuss further once you have that done.’ Mr. Quinz replied.
‘Well thanks again! Will talk to you soon Mr. Quinz!’ Harry commented.
‘No worries, bye bye!’ Mr. Quinz replied.
‘Who was that?’ Milo asked as he was still laying in bed.
‘That was Mr. Quinz, the head of the delivery company. Mr. Zaro, the recruiter who interviewed me yesterday must have informed him about my application.’ Harry replied.
‘And? Why did he call you?’ Milo asked.
‘He called to inform me that I would need to pass the drivers test before he could offer me that position.’ Harry replied.
‘So is he gonna offer the position to someone else?’ Milo asked.
‘I don’t know but at least I didn't get fully rejected, isn't that a good thing?’ Harry replied.
‘I suppose, but I thought you got it in the bag after you nailed the interview yesterday.’ Milo stated.
‘Yeah I forgot to tell you that he did mention the delivery part requires driving yesterday, so it's not too bad though.’ Harry replied.
‘Well it's all up to me now. I hope I do land that factory position otherwise we will have some difficulty surviving here.’ Milo replied.
‘Milo, don’t put too much pressure on yourself, we still have time. I think we can reinforce what we have learnt in the driving book and I’m prepared to take the knowledge test first thing tomorrow!’ Harry stated.
‘Right, I’m not certain if I can pass but I definitely will try. Do you think my interviewer will call me today?’ Milo asked.
‘No idea, but do keep your phone turned on incase if they do.’ Harry suggested.
‘Yeah I nearly forgot.’ Milo replied.
Other than the usual three meals, they both spent the entire day focusing on studying the SD driving book. The next morning, they both woke up at nine A.M. sharp to head to the SDDC to take the knowledge test.
‘Harry, are you sure we are ready to sit the test?’ Milo asked.
‘I think so, just do your best and whatever the result is we can go from there.’ Harry replied.
‘Hi, can we please take the SD drivers knowledge test?’ Harry requested at the front desk.
‘Sure, how many of you will be taking the test?’ Konzi asked.
‘Just the two of us.’ Harry replied.
‘Okay, please follow me to the test room. Just to let you know that test will be multiple choice and in a digital format.’ Konzi replied.
‘Great, so how many questions are there and how long do we have to complete it?’ Harry questioned.
‘Well I believe there’s one hundred multiple choice questions and you will have one hour to complete the test.’ Konzi replied.
‘I see, thank you!’ Harry answered.
As they walked into the test room, there were already a few other members taking the test. A supervisor walked towards Harry and Milo to assist them with the test.
‘Hello there, are you guys here to take the knowledge test?’ Soliz asked.
‘Yes, we sure are.’ Harry replied.
‘Right, you guys will each have a computer to take the test on and you must complete it under test conditions. You must not share to discuss the questions with each other during the duration of the test and it must be completed by yourself. Please let me know if you have any further questions.’ Soliz explained.
‘When can we start?’ Milo asked.
‘You can begin whenever you are ready. If you have any questions or encounter any issues during the test please raise your hand to let me know.’ Soliz replied.
‘Sure we will!’ Milo responded.
They clicked the start button on the screen and Harry took the next 45 minutes to complete all the questions whilst he waited the remainder of the time for Milo to finish.
‘I’ve finished.’ Harry stated as he raised his hand to call Soliz over.
‘Well done, you may take a seat outside first.’ Soliz replied.
‘Sure thanks.’ Harry replied.
After fifteen minutes Milo had completed the test as well, he signalled Soliz shortly after.
‘I have finished the test.’ Milo whispered.
‘Congrats, you can take a seat outside and I’ll quickly hand you your results.’ Soliz stated.
‘Great, thank you.’ Milo replied.
As Milo walked outside the test room, his phone began ringing. He rushed over to Harry to pick up the call.
‘Hello, this is Mr. Emiz from FAC. I’m calling to inform you of the decision we have made about your interview for the factory worker position at our company. First of all, am I speaking with Milo Quinto?’ Mr. Emiz asked.
‘Yes, I am.’ Milo replied.
‘So Milo, based on your responses to the interview a few days ago, we have decided to offer you the factory worker position at FAC.’ Mr. Emiz stated.
‘Wow thank you! That’s wonderful to hear, so when should I start?’ Milo asked.
‘You may start tomorrow or next monday, which one is more suitable to you?’ Mr. Emiz replied.
‘I think tomorrow sounds great. May I also ask what the salary for this position is?’ Milo questioned.
‘Ah yes, the budget we have for your position is thirty thousand Boti on a yearly contract. We can discuss further details tomorrow in person.’ Mr. Emiz replied.
‘Awesome, that sounds good to me. Will see you tomorrow!’ Milo replied as he hung up and jumped up and down in excitement.
‘Harry, you can't believe this! I got the job!’ Milo gasped.
‘Really?? Wow congrats bro I know you could do it.’ Harry replied.
‘Mr. Emiz wants me to start work from tomorrow, you think I am ready for that?’ Milo questioned.
‘Yes of course. You can do anything you put your mind into!’ Harry replied.
‘Well, after we wait for the test results, let's head back to celebrate.’ Milo suggested.
‘We sure will, how did you go on the knowledge test by the way?’ Harry asked.
‘I honestly have no idea! I think I completely messed it up since I was basically guessing the last ten questions. How about you?’ Milo asked.
‘I highly doubt I can pass that, but who knows. I did attempt every single question but I do think we rushed it a little, only studying the book for less than two days.’ Harry replied.
‘Well we will only after they announce the results. There's not much we can do about this now.’ Milo added.
‘Harry and Milo, I have both of your results here. Would you like to know?’ Soliz asked as he walked over to them.
‘Yes, we have been waiting for this for the past fifteen minutes!’ Harry replied.
‘Yes please.’ Milo replied.
‘Alright, in order to pass the SD drivers knowledge test, you must obtain a minimum of sixty marks out of a hundred. I am happy to inform you that you both did very well and have passed the test!’ Soliz stated.
‘Really? What did we get if you could share our marks please.’ Harry questioned.
‘Sure, Harry you have received eighty-five marks and Milo you have received seventy-one marks.’ Soliz replied.
‘That was lower than I thought, but at least we passed.’ Milo replied in relief.
‘Since both of you have passed, please come with me to get a photo taken for your learners licence.’ Soliz requested.
‘Sure, let's go Milo.’ Harry replied.
They followed Soliz and took a photo of their face in front of a huge camera. Shortly after, they received their learner licence with their face ID printed on it.
‘Alright, you both can start applying for SD driving lessons when you are ready.’ Soliz stated.
‘Sure so where can we apply?’ Harry asked.
‘I’ll take you back to Konzi where he will assist you both with questions regarding driving lessons.’ Soliz replied.
‘Right, I think we know how to get back to the front desk by ourselves. We don’t want to waste more of your time.’ Harry commented.
‘Great, well I’ll leave you guys to it!’ Soliz replied.
‘Harry, do you think we should both take driving lessons since I do need to go to work tomorrow.’ Milo questioned.
‘That’s a good point. Well I think that I could start first and you can always take the lessons in your spare time. How does that sound?’ Harry suggested.
‘Yeah, that's more flexible.’ Milo replied.
‘Cool, I’ll let Konzi know.’ Harry responded as he walked to see Konzi.
‘Konzi, we both have passed the knowledge test. However, may I please take the SD driving lessons first?’ Harry asked.
‘Yes, we can do lessons everyday, twice a week, or once a week. Which option would you prefer?’ Konzi asked.
‘Everyday would be great.’ Harry replied.
‘Right, I will assign you a supervised instructor if you haven’t got one yet and you can start your first lesson tomorrow.’ Konzi suggested.
‘Sure, please assign me a driving instructor and can we start at nine A.M. tomorrow morning?’ Harry asked.
‘Yes that’s currently available, I’ll see you tomorrow then!’ Konzi stated.
‘See you soon, thank you.’ Harry replied as he and Milo left the centre.
‘Well today has been smooth! We passed the test and you got the job offer, what could be any better!’ Harry gasped.
‘Yeah I still can’t believe how lucky we are today. I think we should go celebrate for lunch and head back to the hotel since we have an earlier morning tomorrow.’ Milo suggested.
‘Agreed! Should we also tell Yoki the good news?’ Harry asked.
‘Sure if you want.’ Milo replied.
As they walked back to the hotel, Harry rang up Yoki and informed him what had happened today. Yoki came to celebrate lunch with them and they headed back to the hotel later that afternoon.
‘Do you have the address to go to tomorrow?’ Harry asked.
‘Ah let me check, I might just text Mr. Emiz to send the address FAC is located at.’ Milo replied.
‘Sure, you don't want to be in a muddle first thing tomorrow morning.’ Harry added.
‘You’re right, wait he just replied back. It’s at Level one, 559 Splino Street. Can you help me check how far it is from our location?’ Milo questioned.
‘Sure, just wait a sec. Um it states that it's a twenty-one minute walk from here. Do you think it is too far considering you need to get there by seven A.M.?’ Harry asked.
‘Uh, I think I should be able to manage it. I don’t want to turn it down this fast.’ Milo replied.
‘Well you better get an early night rest before tomorrow. I reckon we should chill for the rest of the afternoon so we’ll have enough energy for tomorrow.’ Harry suggested.
‘I’m down with that!’ Milo blurted promptly.
