‘Please take us to level 201.’ Yoki commanded as the doors on the lift slid open.
Within just a few seconds, they have arrived at level 201 where a new assistant is waiting at the front desk.
‘How can I help you guys?’ Loro the assistant asked kindly.
‘Both of them need to take the Botilish language exam. We were hoping you could help.’ Yoki replied.
‘Well you have come to the right place, I’d be glad to help. Please follow me to the classroom.’ Loro replied.
As Harry and Milo followed Loro, Milo gleamed his eyes across the hallway in surprise. The place looked like extremely high-tech library filled books that don’t have any pages in them but instead are made with wire censoring devices that can increase the reader's ability to understand the book five times faster. Milo was tempted to reach and grab one of the books out of curiosity. As he reached his hand up, a book instantly flew across the room! Milo's eyes blew as big as goftballs and thought what in the world was going on!
‘Harry, did you see that?’ Milo grasped.
‘See what?’ Harry questioned.
‘A book just flew across the back of the room! I swear it's real!’ Milo exclaimed.
‘Well I didn't see anything, it's probably just your imagination.’ Harry replied.
‘No it’s definitely real, Yoki can I please ask if these books fly by any chance as I just saw one!’ Milo asked Yoki.
‘Well I’m not too sure, Loro, do you have a better idea?’ Yoki asked.
‘Yes indeed some of the books can fly if you try to reach them.’ Loro replied.
‘Woah so is there magic in here as well?’ Milo questioned.
‘Uhh we wouldn't consider that as magic but more like advanced technology. If you would like to see a book please let us know beforehand by the way.’ Loro explained.
‘Wow, that's insane how books can fly with high-tech! And will definitely let you know next time, I was just super excited.’ Milo replied.
‘No worries, please take a seat in this room. I will have a quick chat with the language teacher.’ Loro stated.
‘Sounds good thank you.’ Harry replied.
There were no other students in the classroom, Milo felt cold air creeping in as they were the only ones allocated to learn Botilish well that’s what seemed to be the case so far. The room contains many items that both Harry and Milo have never seen before. Everything appeared to be remarkably clean from the floor all the way up to the ceiling. The printers, tables, chairs, shelves, and even the whiteboard seemed to be shield with artificial intelligence where they all operate with automation, needless of any human intervention. The silence broke instantly after Mr. Zigi, the language teacher, stood up.
‘Harry, Milo I see you two are foreigners who came all the way from planet Earth.’ Mr. Zigi stated.
‘Yes, we indeed are. It’s a long story. So how should we start?’ Harry questioned.
‘Well please take a seat and I will briefly outline how the coursework will work. So first of all both of you must sit the language exam which consists of a speaking and writing test. From there we can evaluate if both of you can pass. The structure of the studying timeframe will go as follows: Days one to four will be allocated to the basics of Botilanic language, days five to eight will be allocated to speaking, days nine to twelve will be allocated to writing, and the final remaining days thirteen and fourteen will be used for revision. The tests must be conducted on day fifteen. Please let me know if you have any questions before we begin the course.’ Mr. Zigi explained.
‘Ah, thank you for clarifying the structure of the course, I’m just wondering will you be teaching us throughout the fourteen days of learning Botilish?’ Harry asked politely.
‘Yes, I will be your instructor for a period of two weeks. Any other questions ’ Mr. Zigi replied.
‘So has anyone who has taken these tests before us if you don’t mind sharing?’ Milo asked.
‘At the moment no, you two will be the first ones to sit the exams as we have never had any foreign visitors to our planet up until now.’ Mr. Zigi replied.
‘Okay thanks, so would you think the fourteen day timeframe is enough for us to thoroughly learn the basics of Botilish?’ Milo asked.
‘Well there isn’t a correct answer for that, but I will say that Botilish isn’t a very complicated language and with enough practice you can definitely be able to grasp the basics. However, at the same time we do treat foreign visitors strictly. That's why you both are still up for a challenge.’ Mr. Zigi clarified.
‘Great, that’s all from me. Harry, do you have anything more to ask?’ Milo replied.
‘Just one more question, is there a set time where you will be teaching the lessons?’ Harry asked.
‘Yes, I will start the lessons from nine A.M. to noon, there will be a one hour lunch break and then we will start again at one P.M. to five P.M. everyday.’ Mr. Zigi replied.
‘Sounds good, I think that’s all for now, thank you.’ Harry commented.
‘It's quarter to four now, so will the lesson start now or tomorrow?’ Milo asked.
‘I think it's better for us to begin tomorrow, you both can have an early rest so we can start refreshed.’ Mr. Zigi explained.
‘Sounds like a good plan! So is there a place we can stay?’ Milo questioned.
‘Unfortunately, I’m not responsible for any residential plans, I think Yoki would be the one who has the answer to that question.’ Mr. Zigi replied.
‘Right, we will ask Yoki thanks.’ Milo remarked whilst waving goodbye at Mr. Zigi.
‘Have a wonderful day Mr Zigi, see you tomorrow!’ Harry exclaimed.
‘Not a problem gentlemen, see you guys soon.’ Mr. Zigi responded.
As Harry followed Milo to find Yoki, Mr. Zigi jumped back to his desk in relief. After exiting the classroom they both rushed through the hallway back to the administration desk where Yoki was waiting for them.
‘Yoki, thanks for introducing us to Mr. Zigi. He seems like a friendly guy, looking forward to learning Botilish. We just wanted to ask you if there’s a residential place we can stay at tonight?’ Milo queried.
‘Ah yes, both of you can have a short stay at our residential department. Just note that it will cost a price after one of you obtains a job and will be ready to pay for yourselves. I am happy to take you there now if you need.’ Yoki replied.
‘That would be great, thank you.’ Milo responded.
‘Alrightly please follow my lead.’ Yoki commanded.
Both Harry and Milo exited the education department and made their way back to the lifts. The doors slowly slid open after Yoki’s command.
‘Please take us to level 108.’ Yoki instructed.
‘Sure, processing your request to level 108 the accommodation department.’ Quba, the AI lift bot replied.
‘Wow, I didn’t know there was an automatic reply when using these lifts.’ Milo gasped in excitement.
‘Yes, our lifts do have an AI bot assistance named Quba. It was recently just activated and will now give us responses based on the request.’ Yoki replied.
‘Well that is amazing, we barely have any voice activated bots back on Earth.’ Milo exclaimed.
‘This is definitely something of the future.’ Harry added.
‘Level 108 has arrived. Please make your way to your designated destination.’ Quba commanded.
As they exited the lift, Harry and Milo saw a whole new city filled with residents. Everything appears to float in mid air. There are twelve spherical domes made of transparent glass. Inside each dome contains multiple tall unique shaped apartments in which half of it has moss, trees, and plants growing out and the other half is made with glass that has been fused with artificial intelligence. Both the brothers have never imagined that there could be buildings and landscapes like that before.
‘Wowwwwww! I’ve seen anything as advanced as this place in my life.’ Milo divulged whilst turning his head left and right.
‘Same, this level significantly differs from all the other levels we have been to! It's a whole new atmosphere. So where are we headed to?’ Harry questioned.
‘We are heading to building 101, level five. It’s just around the corner.’ Yoki replied.
‘Great, we’ll follow your lead.’ Harry stated.
As they walked across the corner, even the ground felt so ultra-modern where it's made of an indistinguishable material of mankind. After entering the dome, the gates of building 101 automatically opened. Meanwhile, Yoki introduced them to a new cyborg at the reception desk.
‘Hello, can we arrange a temporary accommodation period for these two space travellers that are currently undergoing some tests on Botilanic City.’ Yoki requested.
‘Sure can I please have your names and a form of identification.’ Rishez asked.
‘Sure, my name is Harry and this is my younger brother Milo. Here are our passports.’ Harry replied whilst handing over the passports.
‘Thank you, please give me a few minutes to make the new arrangements.’ Rishez commented.
‘That’s cool, we will wait here.’ Harry replied.
Whilst they waited patiently for Rishez to make these arrangements, Milo had a few more questions he wanted to ask Yoki.
‘So Yoki, is this the place where all the residents stay?’ Milo questioned.
‘Correct, we as all the cyborg group live on this level. However, this building is specifically a hotel which is different to our residential area.’ Yoki replied.
‘Oh I see, so what about our breakfast, is that also free?’ Milo asked.
‘Technically yes, as I said before everything will be covered by us before one of you can find a place to work. We will make new arrangements from there.’ Yoki informed.
‘That sounds good, I see Rishez is coming back to us.’ Milo responded.
‘So Harry and Milo, please follow me to your room.’ Rishez stated.
As they walked through the hallway to enter the lift to level five, Milo noticed that the walls are made of groundbreaking technology. It definitely felt like there’s nothing such as concrete, wood, nor bricks in this city at all.
‘Please take us to level five.’ Rishez commanded.
‘Navigating to level five, please wait a second.’ Quba replied.
‘I didn’t know Quba is active on all the lifts.’ Milo stated in surprise.
The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
‘Quba has been installed throughout our city now, so it will always be responding to our commands.’ Yoki replied.
‘We have reached level five, please exit the lift and enjoy the rest of the day.’ Quba stated.
‘Thank you!’ Both Milo and Harry responded back.
As they exited the lifts in excitement, Milo walked cheerfully across the hallway observing the differences between the hotels on Earth with the ones here. The doors are intricately camouflaged to the lined patterned walls where you could barely distinguish the opening of the door. They finally approached room 788.
‘So here is the room you two will be staying in. It contains two single beds, one for each, a bathroom, dining table, and a closet. Please ask us any questions if you wish.’ Rishez explained.
‘Sounds great, can we take a look please?’ Harry inquired.
‘Yes, go ahead I will just hand you the digital card to activate the lock so you both can enter.’ Rishez stated whilst passing the digital card to Harry.
‘Thank you.’ Harry replied simultaneously scanning the digital card towards the bluetooth sensor on the door.
‘Wow, this is awesome that the door card can be digital otherwise I might as well just say goodbye to it given my forgetfulness.’ Milo commented.
As they walked into the room, everything appeared to be floating in mid air but still positioned in place. All the items looked either transparent or translucent. As Milo placed his hand on one of the blankets on bed, it felt as if he was touching weightless jelly. The T.V was highly futuristic as it lowered down from the ceiling.
‘Rishez, I am starting to wonder if there’s any magic in this city or are those floating items just due to gravity?’ Milo questioned.
‘Great question, as I know there's no magic in our city. The floating items are not due to gravitational force but are set to a certain height with the help of new tech and innovation. That’s why they seem to appear floating but I can guarantee we that all objects are still, it's just set to a higher level than the ground.’ Richez clarified.
‘That’s insanely cool, thanks for explaining. I guess we would just need some time to get used to it!’ Milo replied.
‘Well, I think I’ll leave you two to get some rest first and if you have any other questions, Yoki will help to take care of it.’ Rishez said, as he left the room.
‘Great, sounds cool. I guess we will have the afternoon off then.’ Milo replied.
‘So Harry, Milo I think you guys should be fine staying here on your own, I do have an important meeting to attend this afternoon. I’ll meet you both back at the education department tomorrow if that’s alright.’ Yoki stated.
‘Sure, no problem at all. We are good here. If I may ask, is it okay if we go outside of this building and explore the environment on our own?’ Harry questioned.
‘Yes, that should be fine with me, however remember to stay close to this building because I don’t want you both to get lost and have any difficulties heading back.’ Yoki replied.
‘Will do! We will make sure to stay as close to here as possible.’ Harry replied.
‘Great, well I better head off now. See you both tomorrow!’ Yoki commented, whilst walking towards the door.
‘Wait a sec, I just have one more question. Where can we have dinner? Is it at the same place we had lunch or somewhere else?’ Milo asked just as Yoki was about to close the door.
‘Uhh yes, you guys can either have dinner at level two in this building or back where you had lunch, whichever one you prefer.’ Yoki replied.
‘Awesome, we will see later. Have a great afternoon ahead!’ Milo commented.
‘So Harry, what are our plans for the afternoon?’ Milo asked once Yoki had left the room.
‘Not quite sure yet, but I wanna explore the city and the outdoor environment a little more so we can know this place better. Are you in?’ Harry asked.
‘That sounds good to me, I mean we do have a few more hours before dinner so we might as well do something productive.’ Milo replied.
‘Cool, so I think let's head out now before it gets too dark.’ Harry suggested whilst he walked towards the door.
‘Wait for me, I’m coming!’ Milo exclaimed whilst he followed Harry out the door.
As they closed the door and headed towards the lift, Milo thought to himself can we still use the voice activation feature on the lifts since Yoki has left.
‘Please take us to level zero.’ Harry commanded as he approached the lift.
Harry waited a few seconds however the lifts did not open. At first he thought that there must be something wrong before Milo reminded him about Yoki.
‘I think Quba may not understand English and we might need to figure out another way to access the lift.’ Milo commented.
‘Ohh yeah I totally forgot, Yoki was the one who automatically translated Quba’s speech for us to understand. Without him around we have encountered some difficulty using the lifts.’ Harry replied.
‘Well I think we can stay using the digital screen beside these lifts and see if there’s ground level allocated on there.’ Milo suggested whilst pointing towards the screen panel.
‘Great idea, let's take a look. I can only see a bunch of words written in Botilish which we can’t understand. Wait a sec, I think there’s a zero button on there, let's have a go at that.’ Harry commented before he pressed the button.
Before long, the door of the lift slid open and Milo followed Harry into the lift. There was also an internal control panel inside the lift as Milo had just noticed.
‘Harry, I think we can still control which level we want to head to from the inside as well.’ Milo stated.
‘Yeah I guess so, I didn’t realise that without Yoki we do have a language challenge ahead of us.’ Harry added whilst they exited the lift.
‘Same, but we do need to conquer this together since Yoki won’t be available to translate for us after the language exam and we must learn it ourselves.’ Milo confronted.
‘Wow, the view is still amazing! I’m gonna head over to the nearby park to explore the planets and nature in that reserve.’ Harry stated.
‘Cool, I’ll just be behind you.’ Milo replied.
As Milo followed Harry’s footsteps towards the park, they found that the plants are grown significantly differently where there’s sensors and tiny digital cameras across the plant to track its nutrition, sunlight, and precipitation levels. Harry thought no wonder that these plants appeared to be so green and healthy considering that all of them are real life and not artificially made.
‘Milo, come and take a look at this plant. It looks like there’s a digital key attached to it.’ Harry commented after observing the planet for a while.
‘Sure, let me have a better look. It sure does look like some kind of key or code. What do you think it's used for?’ Milo questioned.
‘I don’t know, but I’m keen to find out.’ Harry replied whilst he used his fingers to click on the key. ‘Well, it seems to track the daily analytics of each plant and its health rate.’ Harry added.
‘I didn't even know that was possible! This place is insanely advanced to the point it's kind of scary. Where everything seems to be tracked and recorded.’ Milo commented.
‘After you mentioned it, it does appear to be to an extent. But I also think it's good for research and to maintain a healthier environment don’t you think so?’ Harry suggested.
‘Well I suppose so, I’m not a big fan of that though. By the way, do you think these small digital keys can be used to help us in any way to fix our spaceship? Milo questioned.
‘Not sure at the moment, maybe who knows. We’ll need to keep that in mind as it could potentially be a useful tool in the future.’ Harry replied.
‘Good idea, remember that was our mission from the beginning. So where should we be headed next as it's close to five P.M. now? Milo asked.
‘I think we can look around the park for more fascinating objects for the next hour or so and head back to have dinner, how does that sound?’ Harry suggested.
‘I’m cool with that, let's keep it going.’ Milo insisted.
Harry wandered towards the inner park where he spotted black cylindrical shaped object that’s approximately the size of a regular mug. He rushed to take a closer look while Milo suddenly tripped on the uneven ground.
‘Are you good, Milo?’ Harry asked as he turned his head back to see him.
‘Yep, just the clumsy old me. Better watch where I’m going next time. What have you found by the way?’ Milo questioned.
‘Not sure, but something new.’ Harry replied.
He had just picked up the object and saw there’s some sort of screen attached to it, however it didn't change when Harry touched the switch.
‘It doesn’t seem to turn on, I think it might be out of batteries.’ Harry commented.
‘Do you have any idea what it is?’ Milo asked.
‘Well, it looks like a speaker from my perspective, but who knows it could be anything.’ Harry responded while fidgeting with the object.
‘So what should we do with it?’ Milo asked.
‘I think we can either leave it here as I’m sure it must belong to someone or take it back to the police or some sort of department where missing items go. What do you reckon?’ Harry questioned back.
‘It's up to you but I think it's best to take it back to the department where residents report missing items.’ Milo replied.
‘Agreed, it's getting late now, let's head back for dinner.’ Harry suggested.
‘Cool, let’s go.’ Milo said cheerfully.
They both retraced their steps and returned back to building 101 with the unknown object. Harry wanted to ask Richez for recommendations of where to have dinner, but as soon as he remembered that he would not understand English, he just waved and headed towards the lift.
‘Where do you wanna have dinner?’ Harry asked.
‘Umm, I really don’t mind. Whatever is the closest, I’m happy to go.’ Milo replied.
‘Alright, I think Yoki said there’s a cafeteria at level 2 of this building right. Let’s go and take a look shall we.’ Harry commented.
‘Sure, after you.’ Milo replied as they entered the lift.
As the lift opened on level two, Harry saw a smaller dining area compared to the one they had for lunch but it still appeared to be larger than the ones back on Earth. There were a few residents who were also having a meal. In a few seconds, the waiter approached them.
‘Good evening, how can I help?’ Koko asked in Botilish.
‘Uh hi, do you speak English by any chance?’ Harry asked.
Koko did not reply, Harry assumed that was a no. Without Yoki, they did not think that it could be this challenging when communicating with other residents.
‘Harry, what should we do? I don’t think the waiter can understand us nor can we understand him.’ Milo questioned in fear.
‘I guess we can try and use hand gestures, see if that helps.’ Harry replied.
‘Right, it's worth a shot.’ Milo stated.
Harry raised two fingers and used his arms to describe a table trying his best to articulate his words without using any speech. He hoped that Koko would understand him. It took a few minutes and finally Koko pointed towards a table, and led them both to it.
‘Thank you, that’s what I meant.’ Harry stated in relief.
Even though it's quite a challenge to communicate with others since they cannot understand each other's language. Koko then brought them the menu.
‘Harry, so what should we order?’ Milo asked.
‘I have no idea, we cannot understand the text as it's only written in Botilish.’ Harry replied.
‘I guess we can only randomly choose something from the menu. We just won’t know if it will suit our appetites.’ Milo shared.
‘Well I suppose that’s our only option, at least we aren't allergic to any foods so that shouldn’t be a problem. Once Koko comes back, just pronounce what you want on the menu. Let’s just treat it as a surprise dinner.’ Harry suggested.
‘Sure, will do.’ Milo replied, as he raised his hand to let the waiter know.
‘Hi, can I please have the Jolip turca?’ Harry asked while pointing his index finger on the dish.
‘Sure and you?’ Koko asked in Botilish.
‘Can I please get the Nolish polim?’ Milo asked unknowingly what it was.
‘Alright cool, I will be back with your orders soon.’ Koko replied.
‘Thank you!’ Harry stated as Koko left the table.
‘Well this is harder than I thought. Being unable to understand Botilish is killing me.’ Milo exclaimed in anger.
‘Ah me too but we must make it work. At least Koko can kind of understand our hand gestures. It's the most we can do so far.’ Harry replied.
‘I’m just hoping we can learn Botilish tomorrow, so we can communicate with others a little easier.’ Milo sighed.
‘Same, well we better get our brains working tomorrow.’ Harry spoked in an energetic manner.
As Koko approached with the meals, Harry could see a blob of purple oval shaped thing on the plate and little green balls similar to the size of peas on the other plate. Koko handed Milo the green dish and Harry with the purple one.
‘Thanks again.’ Harry commented.
‘Enjoy your meals.’ Koko stated.
‘Let’s eat, I’m not sure what this is on my plate but the only way is to try and take a bite.’ Harry commanded.
‘Sure, I’ll see what my dish tastes like right now.’ Milo replied.
Milo took a small bite first and immediately made a painful expression. He instantly threw up onto the table. Harry was extremely worried now.
‘Are you okay? What happened?’ Harry asked worryingly.
‘Ahh the food doesn't taste good at all. It’s an incredibly weird flavour that’s indescribable.’ Milo blurted, barely able to get his words out.
‘Gosh! That sounds awful. I hope mine is edible.’ Harry replied.
‘Well I hope so, otherwise we might have a hard night ahead.’ Milo gasped.
As Harry took a small nibble, the flavour was a little tangy but still edible. He continued to take a second bite.
‘Milo, I think you can try mine. It does have a sour taste but it shouldn’t be a big issue.’ Harry suggested.
‘Alright to be honest, I really don’t have an appetite now but I guess I can take a bite.’ Milo replied.
‘Great, we can share the meal if you want.’ Harry stated whilst watching Milo take a small bite from his plate.
‘Ah this one tastes much better, thanks Harry.’ Milo replied.
‘Don’t worry about it, as long as we have enough energy for the rest of the night that's all that matters.’ Harry assured.
‘So I think I’m finished, what about you?’ Milo asked.
‘Yeah I’m nearly done, just a few seconds.’ Harry replied whilst taking his last few bites.
Whilst Milo patiently waited for Harry to finish his meal, all he could think about was how complicated it has been to communicate a language that they have never heard before. Harry had just stood up to leave and Milo slowly followed him out the cafeteria. They took the lifts back to level five and entered back to their hotel room.
‘I’m glad we can finally take a break from this exhausting journey we have encountered from the past few days.’ Milo blurted as he took a deep breath out.
‘Well we should get an early night rest before tomorrow.’ Harry suggested.
‘I agree, I’ll just go take a quick shower first and get ready for bed.’ Milo replied.
As Milo entered the bathroom, every single object appeared to be thirty centimetres above the ground except for the sink which seems to be higher than regular ones. After he finished the shower, Harry took his turn.
‘So are you prepared for tomorrow?’ Milo asked when Harry got out of the shower.
‘I think so, I’m prepared for anything that we need to accomplish.’ Harry replied.
‘Well, good night bro!’ Milo exclaimed.
‘Night Milo!’ Harry replied as he laid down on his bed.
