Chapter 2. Painful learning curve

The feeling of my body slowly returned to me. The feeling of grass touching me was the first thing I felt after regaining my consciousness. After that I finally opened my eyes and what entered my vision was something that could only exist in old fairy tales. I laid upon a grass hill overlooking a vast forest that seemed to go on endlessly into the distance in a straight line. And on each side of the mighty forest were steep mountains that seemed to stretch into the heavens at least far enough to where the naked eye couldn't see the summit.

You could also hear distant roars and screeches presumably from the inhabitants of this forest. As I looked into the distant sky I could see golden rayes enter my vision, in some way the sun in this world seems different from earths. It had an almost warming energy to it, a kind of energy that entered your body leaving you with a warm feeling. Taken back by the whole situation I just sat there in the moist grass that was probably from rain because the air still had that special smell too.

From an outside perspective you could see James sitting atop of the grass hill shivering probably from the colder temperatures that come with the night before it slowly turns to day. What someone from the outside couldn't understand tho is that they were wrong so very wrong.

So this is real. I told myself why playing with some grass like I'm almost trying to decipher if it's a dream or not. Not thinking of anything special I just sat there while a feeling I haven't experienced in a while filled my body. Pure excitement for what is about to come, that giddiness you can feel when opening a present on christmas. The feeling of the unknown. And I'm ready for it. I looked around again and when I finally started to think rationally again the happiness I was feeling quickly quenched when reality started to set in. How the fuck am i going to survive or get out of here.

“HAHAHAHAH You should see the look on your face boy” Being startled by the loud voice I looked around me trying to find the origin of it. “Your way out of your league boy if you think you could find me by just using your eyes ``Once again I tried to find out where it came from“ You really are slow aren't you” as i heard that last part a sharp pain came from my forehead. Raising my hand and touching where the pain came from I could see blood go down my hand. “Oopsie kinda over did it didn't I can't have you dying on me so early or she will kill me” Still stunned by the situation didn't make me not notice the weak energy that entered my body slightly reminding me of the same feeling from that woman but a lot more shallow “Aaaannnnd done”

After the warm energy entered me I could feel it rushing to my forehead and before I knew it it had healed. Still stunned from the whole situation, I felt a bit safer when the voice said that it didn't want me dead. Now looking a few metres down the hill I could see the outline of a body appearing; it was almost like it was vibrating into existence.

And what entered my vision was quite pleasing to the eye. After some time the figure stopped vibrating and stood still. It was quite the tall woman, she had what looked like animal skin covering her most private areas and letting the rest of her body face the elements on their own. She must have been two metres tall with a psychic that could rival most men back on earth, not bodybuilder big. You could see that she was more in line with earth's crossfit athletes. She had light brown skin that was littered with scars, but it didn't diminish her beauty at all; it had a counter effect and gave her a wild charm. Coupled that with what some would call a ferocious face and wild hair that went everywhere it really made her look like a barbarian.

“I can sense your gaze you know, not many have had that look in their eyes and survived” A gave her a cheese smile and answered with “well I'm not most men” i could see a small smile form on her seductive looking lips and I saw her teeth flash for a second. They kinda looked like K9 teeths. “Haha maybe this will be more fun than i thought, but more of that later now we need to leave this place” Before i could even register what I heard I could feel a huge force push me backwards.

And when I opened my eyes again I could see the ground rapidly enter my vision. It was like I was falling. Before I could crash into the ground I flew up again and that action repeated itself before I was in front of the right side valley mountain. It happened in just a couple of seconds and I felt sick after it. Being put down on the ground quite hard I could see the same woman stand beside me. “Wha what happened” i asked “ wha what what” was the response i got, souring my mood quite a bit. “HAHAHA don't be so serious, I'm not here to teach you about magic so dont ask something like that again” so there is magic i thought to myself, before i could continue my train of thought she said

“Here's the deal boy, I'm repaying a favour by helping you so don't go thinking I'm some charity. The only thing I know is where you would appear and that I should help you. And remember I said I should so don't test my patience. I kinda understand your situation and I know what i need to do to help you but you need to also help yourself because if you go about this without your all in it you will not survive. And as your first task i want you to climb this mountain to my cave that you can see if you look up. If you die it's on you”

Before I could react she was already gone. First thing I thought of was that she spoke quite well, contradicting her barbarian look. Now looking up the mountain it dawned on me that I have never climbed a mountain before and from the looks of it it's like 50 metres up. Scratching my head thinking about how I'm supposed to do it I heard a distant roar behind me that sent shivers down my body. Never have I felt something like that before. It was like a primal fear entered my body making my heartbeat speed up and adrenaline starting to pump. The roar made me shiver but the only thing you could see on my face was a stupid smile. Well I don't want to die so I guess I better start to climb then.
