Chapter 9:
The Goblin Shaman roared furiously, as there was an intruder in his home. Its anger was immeasurable as it ran towards Oliver. Oliver was still shocked by the monster's size and rage.
The shaman held out his huge staff and swung towards Oliver. The staff hit and Oliver fell to the ground, his arm was injured, maybe broken. Oliver felt his arm and fell to the floor in pain, screaming and shouting. Oliver had yet to break a single bone in his 16 years of life, the pain was unimaginable.
The goblin shaman turned around as it had landed on the other side of the room from the speed it picked up, running to attack the intruder.
Oliver yelled, but his pain quickly turned into anger, into pure rage. Oliver stood up and summoned countless fire lances, the room was as bright as the sun and the goblin was blinded by the sheer light emitting from the Fire spells. Oliver's eyes glowed a bright crimson red. And that was the last thing the Shaman saw. After Oliver attacked with his lances, the corpse of the Shaman disintegrated and Oliver would have too, if it weren't for the negation of friendly fire.
“AHHH, IT HURTS SO FUCKING MUCH!!” Oliver Screamed as he held his arm up, the arm was contorted in the most disgusting way. Oliver vomited and laid on the floor, swearing in pain. After a few minutes, his arm was numb, but still very broken.
“Why… Why did this happen!?” Oliver whispered to himself. “Why am I so weak?”
Oliver was angry. Angry at the fact that even with an unimaginable amount of mana, he was injured by a floor one mini boss. He was scared and he was enraged, those two things don't mix and they wouldn't both be present for very long. Eventually he would either succumb to the paint and fear, or he could stand up and continue.
With his broken arm, Oliver stood up and searched for that damned chest. “This better have not been for nothing!” He said as he searched.
Finally, Oliver saw, in the corner of the room, a small wooden chest. It laid right next to the illuminating crystals. “Finally, my reward!” Oliver said, heading towards the chest.
Oliver sealed down before the small chest and with his uninjured arm, set his broken arm to his side and opened the chest. Inside was a set of light armor and a Dark Red cape. Along with the equipment there was a small scroll. Oliver examined his new armor, he needed it, after all, he was just wearing a shirt and a pair of torn pants. (McCarthy gave them to him earlier.)
When Oliver opened the scroll, he saw writing in bold back ink.
Light Armor/Magic Item - Increases physical resistance - Uncommon
Crimson Cape/Magic Item - Increases Magic resistance - Uncommon
(Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Celestial)
“Great, this sh-should help me a lot.” Said Oliver, still in immense pain from the Goblin Shamans attack. Oliver then took the armor from the chest, the armor was in six pieces. The armor was a rather plain dark silver. The material looked to be of steel or iron. It wasn’t as heavy as Oliver had thought it would have been, even though it was light armor, he expected it to be way a ton. The cape was long and would reach slightly beyond his feet, it too had no decoration and seemed purely tactical.
After equipping all the armor and the cape, Oliver left the boss room, not in as much pain as he was originally. “Status!” He announced.

“Are you serious, that attack took 750 Mana, I expected it to cost way more than a thousand.” He thought, as he strode through the halls of the labyrinth once more. Oliver continued wandering and encountering the low level monsters, until the monsters just vanished; it had been about an hour since he had seen a single one. Though, his mana had already gotten back up to 1800, and he could easily defend himself.
After another thirty minutes he finally had found the next boss room. “This time, I’ll be ready for the attacks!” He stared at his dangling numb arm, he had lost control of it and also could no longer feel it, this worried him, life in the apocalypse with a single limb missing would be very difficult. “No matter, I’m sure it will heal. What's important is this boss, and how I will destroy it.” He thought resolutely. He gripped his uninjured arm and said, “But this time, I won’t disintegrate the boss, instead, I’ll try out my Summon Bone Minion magic.”
He opened the door to the boss room, as it slid open, a black mist escaped, and he could hear a loud noise. Was it the boss sleeping? Or was the boss awake this time? No, it was sleeping, as all boss monsters did, until it was time to kill. Oliver entered the door and the illumination stones lit up the room once again. In the center of the room was a sleeping lizard. It was colossal and way bigger than the goblin shaman.
“Hello, my new minion!” Oliver said, as the reptile awoke, its long tail swung in the air, its scales were the color of a dark yellow and its belly looked to be a yellow tan. Its four giant legs, stretching 10 feet, picked up its long and slender body. It had four horns atop its head and dozens of large k9 teeth. “SCALED EARTH SALAMANDER,” the name of the beast once again sounded in his head.
The salamander let out a screech and charged at the intruder. Luckily for Oliver, the Salamander was much bigger than the Goblin Shaman and was hence slower. Oliver stood his ground at the rapidly approaching beast, he held out his uninjured arm and his eyes now glowed bright blue.
Suddenly, water immediately formed and converged on the approaching lizard. The salamander found itself trapped inside a water bubble and the more it tried to escape, the faster it lost its strength. Slowly, the Scaled Earth Salamander suffocated in the bubble, terrified at the approaching armored man with a red cape. It tried to escape, but to no avail.
Oliver let go of the spell and his blue glow disappeared. He looked down at the salamander, dead as a door knob. “Don’t worry friend, you’ll be able to live on…heh, sort of.” Said Oliver. He focused as much mana as he could on the dead reptile, its skin and scales began to fall off, and the salamander's body became a skeleton. Skeleton scales started to grow all over the creature's body and the salamander looked the same as before, except for bright purple eyes and its body now a boney white.
Oliver had concentrated all of his remaining mana into his first undead minion, every last drop. The salamander became stronger, faster, its horns grew even larger and its tail grew spikes. Since Oliver had put so much mana into one minion, it had grown much stronger. But Oliver wasn’t able to see the prestige of his first undead, because he passed out due to mana exhaustion.
Several hours later, Oliver opened his eyes to see the bone salamander's purple eyes. It was inspecting its new master and when Oliver sat up, the reptile backed off. “How long has it been?” He said. He was slightly confused for a moment, but quickly came to his wits. “Status,” Oliver shouted.

“Ah, it even shows me my minions.” Oliver said excitedly. The salamander looked to his master and Oliver looked to his new minion. “Roll over?” Said Oliver. Just as he commanded, the salamander rolled over, like a uhaul sized dog. “Hahaha, yes. How epic you are my minion.” He said happily.
“Now then, let's see what treasures I’ve received.” Oliver stated, the Salamander quickly moved to the side, and behind him, Oliver could see a slightly larger chest, than the last one. He got off the ground and approached the chest. The salamander watched its master move to the small box and followed slowly behind. Oliver kneeled down and opened the box, inside was a ring, a small pouch, and the scroll of detail. Oliver picked up the small pouch and removed its contents. Inside the pouch was a volley of gems and gold coins.
Oliver's eyes sparkled with greed, he was quite pleased to get some money. He picked up the ring next and examined its finer details. The ring was nothing special, looked to be silver or a bright iron color. There was no gem and the surface of the entire ring was smooth. Instead of a curve, the ring had edges that connected the inside and out. “How…pretty?” Oliver put on the ring and grabbed the scroll. The scroll read…
Ring of Invisibility/Magic Item - When infused with mana, the user will become invisible. - Epic
Bag of Valuables/Currency - People value treasures like gems and gold, use them to trade for resources.
“Oh, it’s just an invisibility ring?” Said Oliver plainly. He held his injured arm and paused for a moment. “Wait, an invisibility ring?” He Asked. “Oh my, all the peeking I can do with this is gonna be great!” He said, slightly flustered.
“Mr. Briege, are you still alive?” Shouted a voice from outside the boss room.
Oliver snapped, he looked at the scroll and the bone salamander. He quickly burned the scroll with what little mana he had left and quickly replied to the voice. “Yes, I’m down here!” He shouted.
“Oh, good job.” Alexander walked into the boss room. “The day is over and you-you” Alexander froze as he saw the massive bone salamander.
“Please, don’t worry, he’s under my control.” Said Oliver.
“OH…is-is that so?!” Alexander said, pissing himself in front of both Oliver and the salamander. Alexander then quickly left the room and shouted as he ran. “MONSTERRRRRR!!!”
“Darn it, how do I explain this?” Said Oliver to the bone salamander. “Hm, perhaps this is an opportunity?”
