When Daisy heard Jason's sudden question, her previously sad eyes dropped even further.
Aletta noticed this, causing her to release a depressed sigh.
"Let's just say her grandma was the I know what's best for you type of parent"
"Oh.. I can't relate to that" Jason shrugged.
Right from childhood, his father never interfered in any of his business. He gave him all the freedom he wanted and whatever he requested, his father always provided without asking.
Others might think his father spoilt him rotten but Jason could argue with anybody that his childhood was the sweetest moment of his life. Until a darn Demon came along and ripped it apart!
"I take it Nora was one of the thirteen girls who .." although Aletta paused, the meaning in her statement was more than clear.
"It's all my fault" Daisy sniffed as her eyes went misty.
"What do you mean?"
"Before my grandmother died--"
"Wait a minute! the old lady is dead?!" Aletta cut her off.
Although she knew the old lady was retired, she had no idea she had already kicked the bucket!
"Well.. Nana insisted she wished to die a silent death. Not to mention unlike regular people, she couldn't risk a proper burial"
"A Hunter burial" Aletta clicked her tongue sadly.
"Unfortunately that's one of the prices we pay "
"A Hunter's burial?" Jason gave her a questioning look.
"What does that mean?" for some unknown reasons, Jason's had a feeling a Hunter's burial was anything but pleasant.
"Once you die.. it won't be too late for you to know what it means.. oh wait a minute! you would already be dead by then!"
"Not funny " Jason huffed as he decided to ignore Aletta totally.
Why did she always take delight in teasing him at every opportunity she had?!
"Before Nana died, she had me promise two things to her at her dying bed. One was that whatever happens neither I nor my sister should ever choose to be involved with Mystique Hunters. The second was that I should burn all of her hunting stuffs.."
"And let me guess.. you couldn't bear to part with her stuffs " Aletta gave her a knowing smile.
"You are right. And it was selfish of me. And now because of my selfishness, Nora is dead..uwaah!" Daisy burst into tears..
Seeing her bawling her eyes out like a toddler whose gelato fell on the ground, Jason rolled his eyes as he clicked his tongue.
"That's a nice sob story, but I still don't get how all this is your fault "
"Hey!" Aletta gave him a sharp pinch on the shoulder.
"Can't you be a little nicer?"
"What? you expect to hand her a tissue paper or a shoulder to cry on? she obviously knows something so the faster she stops beating around the bush and tell us, the less people are going to die "
"He's right.." Daisy sniffed back as she wiped off the tears on her face.
"Nora is.. or was the President of one of the school's extracurricular clubs.. the Broom Witch club.."
"Broom Witch club? what a lame name" Jason cut in with an amused snort.
"Ignore him. He's a jerk" Aletta gave Daisy an apologetic smile.
Nodding as if in agreement, Daisy continued speaking, explaining how Nora had stolen a spell book so she could summon a ghost and prove to the School Dean that the Broom Witch club wasn't just a gathering of lazy minds, but the real deal.
"What an idiot. Even if she managed to summon a Ghost? so what? it's not like she was going to control this said ghost" Jason sneered after hearing the full story.
"Plus how the hell was she able to successfully cast a spell of she -- wait a minute.. are you and your sister Wiccans as well?'
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
Daisy shook her head.
"Nana taught us a few tricks.. some rituals that can aid in successfully casting a spell even if you are not a Wiccan.. she taught us for self defensive purposes.."
"Then if youe Nana hadn't taught you both a few tricks your sister would still be alive.. so in simple words, it's your Nana's fault that your little sister is dead.. not yours " Jason flatly said.
"How dare you!" Daisy glared angrily at Jason.
She could endure anything.. but someone talking down on her grandma who was now dead.. that was an offense she couldn't take lying down!
"What is it? aren't I telling the truth?" Jason smirked provocatively.
The whole classroom suddenly tensed up as two pairs of eyes were engaged in a tightly locked glaring combat. If looks were a weapon, the whole classroom would've already be transformed into a chaotic war zone!
"Wait a minute guys! something doesn't add up here!" Aletta's voice rang out promptly, breaking the tensed atmosphere.
Once she got both of their attention, she continued speaking.
"I have checked the crime scene and the corpses of the victims.. at least what is left of them.. however I wasn't able to discover any ectoplasmic activity"
"So it isn't a Malevolent then?" Daisy furrowed her brows.
"I am afraid so.." Aletta paused a bit before she continued.
"Perhaps we would have to take a look at the spell she casted.. that's the only way we would know what we are up against"
.
.
.
"You really didn't have to miss school.. you could've just given us directions"
Inside a small study, three teens ransacked through a shelf, piled up with books. Each of the books were both thick and antique looking.
"Are you kidding? how do you expect me to focus in class with the guilt of my sister's death weighing down on me.. I have to do this" Daisy replied stubbornly as her fingers snaked across a section of the shelf before they wrapped around a particular book.
"Found it! The night Nora died, this book was the only one missing from the shelf" she placed the book.. or rather tome on the nearby study desk.
"There are a lot of spells here" she knitted her brows as she flipped through a series of pages, each page filled with characters and pictograms made out from blood red ink.
"Stop!"
"Huh?"
"Flip back three pages"
"This one?" Daisy did as Aletta told her.
"Yeah..," Aletta tapped on the title on the particular page.
"Can you read this crap?" Jason squinted his eyes.. the characters on the pages were something he had never seen before.
"No. However I recognize this symbol for Spirit.. and no, this isn't crap.. it's one of the oldest language to have ever existed" Aletta retorted sharply.
"It's Empryeanochian.. the language of the Empryeans.. only a Witch or some one taught in the art can read it.. my grandma happened to be a Wiccan and she taught us how to read Empryeanochian" Daisy explained.
"What does it say?" Aletta asked curiously.
"Mauq Eressecra Eari Easorbenet"
"English please? I don't understand whatever Latin crap you are saying " Jason clicked his tone.
"It's the title of this particular spell " Daisy seemed to be taking Aletta's earlier advice pretty well, choosing to ignore Jason's annoying statement.
"What does it say?" Aletta asked.
"How to Summon a Dark Wraith" Daisy replied before suddenly pursing her lips.
"Although the characters for Hell Wraith is similar to a Friendly Spirit, it's also like a parallel version.. although the difference between them is miniscule.. I can tell"
