After it screamed its throat out, it finally fell silent and glared at us hatefully.
Trying to trick us eh? little bugger...
“You don’t think we are cruel right?” I asked her dubiously…
“Not anymore than we usually do.” said Elizabeth, lost in thought.
Apparently, she didn't buy it either. Clever girl, I thought and spoke.
“True,” as we fell silent.
Night fell on the forest as chirping birds were replaced by hooting owls.
I smiled wistfully…
“So?” asked Elizabeth as she started to withdraw her camping kit.
“Yes, I guess I will interrogate them.” I said as I rose from the root of the tree.
And approached the hateful creature as it let out silent whimpers.
I spoke words of power as it started to get goosebumps.
[ᛞᛟᛗᛁᚾᚨᛏᛁᛟᚾ] as lights in its eyes wink out.
I started with a very obvious question.
“What are you?”
As it was about to speak, smell of sulfur become apparent when it started to smoke with cries of dismay.
Then it exploded in gore.
Big remains, like bones, organs, instantly turn into ash and resurrection becomes impossible.
How curious, I thought as things get more interesting.
“W-was that oath magic?” stuttered Elizabeth, as she got up from now bloodied remains of her tent.
“Yes,” I answered and asked, “Are you okay?” already knowing the answer, as she finished getting up.
“Y-yes! I'm just surprised that's all,” answered Elizabeth, as she approached the remains of the creature.
Apparently she saw something like this before. I thought as we approached closer.
There wasn’t much left, just ashes that scattered as wind picked up speed.
Judging by the heat signature of the spell, very high fire affinity or certain demonic bloodlines comes to mind…
“If these creatures are the same as that creature, it is a wasted effort” I said, preparing to kill them but thought better of it.
“Let's just go to the city, maybe there is something to investigate as we examine humans on this planet.” I said, preparing to examine anything out of ordinary...
"I know the way" agreed Elizabeth, and we started to move towards the city...
********************************************
Green and brown become my world as we finally get out of that damned forest.
City lights instantly blinded me as my eyes started to adjust.
And the city finally revealed itself in full glory.
Smoke from factories as they cover the sky, poisoning people under them, endless traffic as cars sound their horn nonstop, unable to truly advance, bird poop stains on the sidewalk as people rush, intending to get out of the poop bombardment at once, no doubt and potholes in asphalt as rain fills them in, splashing water on nearby pedestrians as cars ride on quickly.
City of unrest and corruption, just like home. I thought, as we crossed the sidewalk.
“That building is a hotel,” said Elizabeth, pointing to the red building and continued “We should be able to stay the night there and start our investigation in the morning,” as we walked.
“Sure” I replied as we crossed another sidewalk.
It was getting hard to walk as pedestrians increased. So we started taking shortcuts whenever we could.
Ads started to flood from buildings as we got close to the hotel.
Even in another universe, you can’t get rid of the ads. I thought as we finally came to the hotel.
We opened the door and came inside.
Instantly, greeter welcomed us with a smile.
“Welcome, sir and madam, do you want to stay the night?” asked the greeter, almost like reciting lines in a script.
“How much for the room?” asked Elizabeth, already opening her wallet.
“Rooms are only 499$ each” replied greeter while fishing for keys, already expecting us to pay it up.
“Here,” said Elizabeth as she put the cash on the counter.
“Have a good night!” yelled the greeter excitedly while somehow maintaining a perfect poker face, instantly giving me goosebumps...
I frowned, something wasn't right here as we traveled up the stairs...

We finally came to our rooms when Elizabeth spoke.
“Goodnight grandpa” and she closed her door.

“Goodnight” I replied absentmindedly as I closed my door.
Finally I can get a little rest, I thought and sat on the bed.
But my first order of business is to look for anything out of the ordinary , I thought, and opened my wallet.
And withdrew my ID.
ID Number : **********666
Name : Elijah
Last Name : Morrigan
Date of Birth : 01/04/1844
Country of Origin : United Kingdom
There wasn’t anything out of ordinary besides my ID number…
How odd…I thought and remembered my brother Eliott's words.
And I remembered what happened on that day…

I shivered in front of the door in our family house and circulated my blood to increase my body temperature.
It was winter….
And with winter comes my brother! I thought, looking forward to more stories, and looked outside.
Snow-white snowflakes as they pool in our courtyard, sounds of children as they hurl snowballs in each other's faces and sounds of laughter as children climb onto snowmen…
Best time ever! I thought and opened the door with a grin.
“How you always manage to predict my arrival is beyond me.” laughed Eliott as he ruffled my hair.
“How was your trip to another world?” I asked curiously…
“Weird but fine,” said Eliott as he got inside.
“Weird how?”
“My Identification Card has changed. I need to reissue it sometime tomorrow. “ replied Eliott as he drew his ID.
“Can I see it?!” I asked excitedly.
Identification Number : ***********
Name : Eliott
Last Name : Morrigan
Date of Birth : 29/06/1829
Country of Origin : United Kingdom
“It is the same…” I pouted as he looked at me curiously.
“How odd, I swear it was different in the other world.” replied Eliott, surprised as he put the ID in his wallet again.

Maybe he was talking about this… I thought and put my ID into my wallet.
Anyway, time to rest, I grumbled internally and put my monocle on the table.
I then undid my Disguise Self magic as my ears got reverted to their original shape, instantly revealing my demonic origins.
As I was about to remove my suit, an explosion shook this place…
I rushed out of my room and opened the door even as it burned my hand…
“Beth! You okay?!” I shouted as I came closer to her door.
“Y-yes!” coughed Elizabeth
I sighed in relief…
And broke the door into pieces…
“Let's go down,” I said and supported her with my shoulder…
Some things never go right…
